The Van Zandt County Sheriff said the search is on for a 3-year-old Canton girl who last seen at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies are searching the girl's home and wooded area near her house, according to the sheriff, they don't know if she wandered away from the house or if someone took her.

Chopper 5 could see cars from several agencies lining the 1500 block of Van Zandt County Road 4027 in Canton.

The Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter is helping from the air, while surrounding agencies help with the ground search. The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office also said blood hounds were being used in the search.

The sheriff said his office is working with the state to get approval for a statewide Amber Alert.


VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Van Zandt County Sheriff Pat Burnett says authorities are in search of a missing three-year-old little girl.

Authorities have said the girl's name is Zoey Smith.


Officials say the child was last seen walking down the road with a little brown dog on CR 4207 in the southeast portion of the county. We're told this was around 12:40 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.


She reportedly walked out of her house.

Two fire departments, DPS helicopters equipped with heat signature-sensing cameras, and dozens of others are also involved with the search.

Van Zandt County Constable Pat Jordan says it's not his investigation, but he is on the scene along with many other agencies, including the FBI.

Search dogs have been called to the scene to assist.

We're told authorities are looking for a vehicle in the area.

White female
Dark hair
Green eyes
Last seen wearing:

Light purple shirt - Short sleeved - with the wording "I did not do it" around the collar
Black tennis shoes
Wrangler jeans
Light blue and pink jacket
Possibly walking with a pit bull

now it is reported she walked away from her grandmother's house.

Oh I hope she is ok and just wondered out to take the dog for a walk, pretending to be a big girl like all little girls do.

So pleased, I heard she was found near a creek with her dog. Time to put on child proof door handles
