Assholes in the news

You're welcome, doll.

Small image, sorry, Mockers.

How the heck did the law see through the wig and the blurry pictures? That's pretty good.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

I think they really tracked him down by him purchasing a specific type of battery from Amazon.

I think LE tied the timing of that surveillance image to the parcel bomb intercepted at Fed Ex yesterday. And, they may have had surveillance footage of the Fed Ex parking lot to connect him to his vehicle.

Austin Bombing Updates

LE identified Conditt as a person of interest after going to all the local stores and reviewing the receipts for the household items they'd determined were used to make the bombs. They got a search warrant to access his Google records and found suspicious searches.

After Monday's explosion at Fed Ex, they got the big break through the surveillance video and knew they had their guy.

LE tracked him to a hotel where he was located inside his car in the parking lot. He took off when SWAT attempted to surround him and he detonated a bomb which exploded when he drove into a ditch.

LE has been at his parents' house all day looking for clues and information. They say the parents are being very cooperative and there's nothing to indicate that the parents had any knowledge.

Conditt was from a religious family and he and his siblings had been home-schooled by his mother. He was 23 (not 24 as previously noted) and attended Austin Community College sometime recently.

Conditt is being described by those who knew him as "quiet", "nerdy", "smart", "polite" -- there's no known history of violence or mental illness at this point.

The big question is what was his motive. Racial hate crime has not been ruled out. I'm sure LE is looking at all other angles as well. Hopefully, he left a manifesto or direct statement as to why he terrorized the city and became a murderer. If not, LE may be able to determine motive via interviews with those who knew him and internet searches/posts.

That could have been part of the receipt and electronic trail that put LE on to Conditt.

It's been confirmed that he made the bombs out of exotic batteries he bought from Asia + items he bought at Home Depot.

It's also been confirmed that he used the alias Kelly Killmore (eerie) at the Fed Ex store.

Also today, the Conditt family issued the following statement:

[Image: 4A66E51F00000578-5526159-image-m-71_1521654990918.jpg]

'We are devastated and broken at the news that our family could be involved in such an awful way. We had no idea of the darkness that Mark must have been in.

Our family is a normal family in every way. We love, we pray, and we try to inspire and serve others. Right now our prayers are for those families that have lost loved ones, for those impacted in any way, and for the soul of our Mark.

'We are grieving and we are in shock. Please respect our privacy as we deal with this terrible, terrible knowledge and try to support each other through this time.'

I just can’t believe it when someone says they had ‘no idea’ what a family member was up to.

He was a college dropout and was unemployed. Who’s paying his bills and feeding him?

Anyway, today we found out that this guys Mom grew up in MN.

Great.

What does it matter that his mom grew up in MN, did you have relations with her after church or something? Could it be the bomber was your son?

Great.

I saw that he was fired from his job at an engineering and manufacturing company last year.

The house he was living in was purchased under his name and his dad's name, reportedly.

Maybe his income was coming from rent paid by his roommates (and/or mom and dad were supplementing it)? It'll be interesting to see what the roommates have to say.

So far, LE has only released info about the search of the parents' house. I wonder what they found at his own residence and the hotel where he was staying.

I just now saw a post (from a journalist) who said a 25 minute recording/confession was found by law enforcement, so we may find out a little more soon.

I hope that's true. I'm very curious as to motive. Usually bombers are what profilers call "grievance collectors" - they consider themselves victims of all kinds of things and people and are out for revenge.

This guy is a lot younger than most bombers I've read about though, so he might have been driven by something completely different.

Saying "I was just trolling" after having said something ridiculous and being called on it is pretty much the same thing as starting a sentence with " I'm no racist/sexist/bigot but..."

In both cases you know whatever preceded or followed it was idiotic.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

I got curious and looked up bombing incidents in the U.S.

Actually, most domestic bombers I came across are in the same age range as Conditt, like Timothy McVeigh and the Tsarnaev brothers.

Serial bombers, however, are typically older, like the Unabomber. (edited for accuracy)

Black eye for the North Star State.

I just saw that Austin PD Chief Manley confirmed that a 25-minute video was recovered from the cell phone of Conditt.

Manley said it contains the confession of a very challenged young man and the challenges that led him to this point, though we'll never be able to put rationale behind his acts.

I hope they release it to the public soon.

Austin PD Chief Manley said he's not going to release Conditt's video confession while the investigation is ongoing.

He did reveal that aside from the video being the outcry and confession of a challenged young man, most of the video described the bombs he made and how he made them in great detail.

There were seven bombs in total described. So, LE is more confident that there are no more of his bombs out there.

Manley stated that Conditt's confession video did not include an explanation as to how and why he chose his victims. He also stated that Conditt was planning to send more bombs and was researching addresses before he blew himself up.

Today it was reported that Conditt took part in a Christian survivalist group for home-schooled youth when he was a teen.

The conservative group called RIOT (Righteous Invasion of Truth) would study the bible and discuss weapons and dangerous chemicals, according to his friend who participated with Conditt and Conditt's sister in the group. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...group.html

Today it was revealed that police were able to confirm Conditt as the Austin bombing suspect when Fed Ex surveillance cameras caught his license plate.

As I understand it and according to police, Conditt was on the list of 'persons of interest' based on the receipt history research covered upthread.

It was also revealed that LE found a lot of bomb-making materials at the home Conditt shared with his two roommates; there were no completed bombs found.
