Does anyone have an Amazon Echo or similar device? I'd like to read about your experience with it.

I know Cars got one too but I can't recall the name of the thread. Anyway, my experience has been that I barely use it. Every now & then as I'm walking through the den I think to say, Alexa, what's the weather today...annnnnd that's pretty much the extent of it. I don't know why I thought I needed that thing.

Yeah I got one as a Christmas gift.

Unless you buy all the add on feature units (unit for turning thermostat, unit for turning lights in the house, unit for turning radio on in another room, etc) it's just good for the weather, playing music, answering general
knowledge questions like from wikipedia, etc.

Most of the time I ask questions, I get pissed because Alexa comes back with "I don't know that"! hah

I always forget that feature that is/was on my phone. I disabled it. And am reminded when I am next to someone who uses it constantly. I just prefer to type questions into google.

That's not the stories I've been reading in the tech magazines. But I'm OK with other people using them along with Facebook. It's just not my bag. But have fun with them.

Not a big fan of FB here, and Echo by itself stinks, "without" purchasing all the "other" controlling gadgets that are shown in their ads. Smiley_emoticons_skeptisch

I can tell when Alexa is listening because she lights up and does a slow spin and on a couple different occasions we've seen her listening when she hasn't been addressed. I think it's freaky but it doesn't concern me.
