Happy 4th, Dick. Stay safe.

My husband totally culls his clientele. You have $100k that you want to invest and take up 80% of his time micro-managing your investments? Ba-bye. Maybe Charles Schwaab would be interested.

The best professionals attract the highest income clientele. When you're starting out, you'll accept anyone but after time, the professional determines who they will accept as a client and how much whining/bullshit they'll tolerate. I'm pretty sure my husband won't even bat an eyelash at anyone who has less than $1million to invest at this point. They take up time that he would rather spend focusing on his high income investors.

Pfft. Service industry. We're not talking McDonald's, Dick.

Have you always been this dumb or did it start when you started agreeing with OP?

Not everyone is desperate for business, Dick. My husband would probably kick your ass to the curb if you wanted to be his client. That's the way it works at a certain level. He's only interested in really rich clients and he can afford to be choosey. Smiley_emoticons_hurra3

Sad but true. Smiley_emoticons_slash

I wouldn't go to someone who thought they were better than their clients, so the curb kicking comes from the other direction.

You see some people actually want service from someone they pay, judgement is not service it's elitism and fucked up.

If you think that someone who has a $50k account gets the same service as someone who has a $1million plus account, you're just high. Capitalism at its best. Or do you think (you closet liberal, you) that there should be regulations about that? Does it not make sense that those people who have the most money and are willing/able to pay for the advice would get the best advice/service...? Most of those people are paying more in financial fees (based on the percentage of their investments) so they're seemingly entitled to more financial advice/direction I would think.

"Elitism" sounds like a call for socialism. You want everyone equal, Dick? *gasp* You crazy liberal!!

Disclaimer: I know my husband has to follow regulartory rules and he pretty much does the best he can by all of his clients. But he definitely doesn't take on new clients who don't meet his criteria and will also invite PITA clients to leave if they're not worth his time. *shrugs* Benefit of having established yourself, I guess. You wouldn't want to visit a doctor who thought he/she was more educated in medicine than you?

Some one with 50K to invest is exactly the same as someone who has a million to invest, they are customers and deserve to be treated the same.

elitism in context user.

have you ever been able to actually follow a conversation or did that ability go away when you started agreeing with OP?

I get your point. An investor is an investor. Therefore, one should not deny service based on the size of the investment.

However . . .

That $50K can either be an investors 'nest egg' or 'chump change'. The same is true with the $1M investor.

This changes the equation.

And there's always the talking toddler, who helped Enzo invest, to assist potential investors. And they can do it via their phone, too.

While riding the dog.

At a certain point in order to provide the best service, it only makes sense to cull clients (or choose clients based on the size of their investment). I'm just throwing out numbers here, but if my husband took every $50k investor, he might end up with 500-1000 clients. Hard to effectively service that many families (not to mention all those portfolios). By limiting the number of clients he accepts, he's not spread as thin.

Realtors do this all the time. So do car salespersons. Architects, doctors and lawyers, too. And politicians.

They pick and choose their 'clients', target specialties and demographics.

So do the trades. New construction, remodel, urban, rural, restoration and specific geographical or economic areas.

Scope of service and clientele is not limited to the 'elite'.
