Health insurance is such a crock of shit. I'm going for a chest x-ray tomorrow because I'm a smoker and I've been coughing. The ENT charged me 50 bucks for an office visit after I told them I'm self pay and guess how much it's going to cost me for the x-ray after I told them I'm self pay. 40 dollars. 40 fucking dollars. Can you believe that shit. I'm saving more money not having the insurance.

I guess my lectures on why you need to quit smoking have been to no avail.....I know how difficult it is to quit (50 years for me) and quit 17 year years ago..

I hope your x-ray is clean......let us know. You are still young enough to save yourself...Being tethered to oxygen is no fun.....really does get in the way of living....I predict, that your x-ray will be o.k. but doctor will say, "quit smoking" and prescribe cough medicine, cortisone and/or mucinex (sic). I am probably dumb, but I still don't understand your insurance...I realize self paid....well, never mind......

What I'm saying is I don't have insurance. When I tell any physician or lab that I don't have insurance they have separate prices for people who self pay and people that have health insurance. If I had insurance they'd bill the insurance company $400 for this x-ray, but my self pay price is 40 bucks. So why the big difference, because it trickles down. Insurance companies are the ones who put a price on these procedures and you pay the price. So you the consumer are under the belief that an x-ray costs $400 bucks when if you shopped around it's only 40.

That's why I say the Insurance and health care systems are so corrupt and in bed together. You pay Oodles of bucks to a insurance company for coverage. The Ins Co makes a deal with the Health Care system that they bill a procedure out at 100x the normal rate. The bill gets sent to the Ins Co, They send you a copy saying the paid all but a fraction of the cost and you must pay that fraction. Usually what the procedure would cost if you walk in off the street and pay cash.

Actually the medical providers bill the insurance companies 10 times what the insurance company allows. The insurance company pays the negotiated fee. For example an ER visit is billed at $1800. Insurance rate is $101. And that is only the facility. The physician is separate as are any radiology fees. There is also a percentage added on for indigent or uninsured patients. That's why Sally pays so little. Everyone else is making up the difference.

My chest x-ray came back normal, phew. Now I'm going to ask if he can order an x-ray of my jaw just to make sure there are no masses there. He's an ENT doctor and I go to him for everything because I like him way better than my primary doctor. He probably thinks I'm insane.
