So, this asshole is back in the news.

Nidal Hasan was the US Army psychiatrist who was counseling soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009 when he became a self-radicalized Muslim and decided to go all jihad rather than being deployed to Afghanistan.

The US citizen of Palestinian descent shot and killed 13 US soldiers; he wounded 32 others.

At the outset of his assault, Hasan cried out "Allahu Akbar ... and started shooting at the soldiers sitting defenseless in chairs," lead prosecutor Mulligan said.

Internet searches on Hasan's computer used keywords like "terrorist killing," "innocent," "Quran," "fatwas" and "suicide bombings," Mulligan said.

Hasan is representing himself (typical idiot move favored by narcissists).

He started off his spiel by taking credit for being the shooter and explaining that he was on the wrong side and then converted to the right side.

He told the panel in his opening statement, "We mujahedeen are trying to establish the perfect religion." But, he added, "I apologize for the mistakes I made in this endeavor."

Hasan told his family he had been taunted after the al Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001. Investigations that followed the killings found he had been communicating via e-mail with Anwar al-Awlaki, the Yemeni-American radical cleric killed by a U.S. drone attack in 2011.

One of his victims, Alonzo Lunsford, testified against him today.

Hasan faces the death penalty if convicted.

And this allows him to directly confront and question those he victimized.

I'm sorry he didn't pop himself after his spree.

I imagine it's gonna be really tough for the victims to be subjected to cross-examination by their shooter.

At least they'll have the satisfaction of helping to end a terrorist's life and getting some justice for their brothers and sisters in arms.

Me too.

Better yet, before his spree...

"We mujahedeen are trying to establish the perfect religion."

That sentence, stated in open court, illustrates terrorism versus workplace violence.

Hey, Eric! How 'bout a hate crime over here!

Colored killed by Non-Colored = Hate Crime.

Undeployed, unarmed and non-Muslim US soldiers killed by Mujahedeen fighter = Workplace Violence

I think it was a clear case of domestic terrorism as well.

If Hasan had gotten his way, his defense strategy would have been that the killings were in “defense of others,” namely members of the Taliban fighting Americans in Afghanistan. But, but the judge denied that strategy.

10 witnesses/victims have been called in the Court Martial hearing so far.

Hasan has elected not to cross-examine any of them.

His stand-by lawyers motioned to actively take over his defense, claiming that he was purposely going for the death penalty.

The judge denied that motion today and the lawyers are now preparing an appeal.

Honestly, I'm not comprehending some of the judge's rulings in this case.

It appears that the military court doesn't want the inference that Hasan was in fact a self-radicalized terrorist to be presented, though that's the prosecution's contention (personally, I think it's pretty obvious).

Here's the latest on the judge's rulings.

SNIP:

The judge, Col. Tara Osborn, refused to allow prosecutors to use materials they maintain show Maj. Nidal Hasan's interest in the actions of Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar, the American soldier sentenced to death for killing two soldiers and wounding more than a dozen others at the start of the Iraq war -- an attack he said he carried out to stop soldiers from killing Muslims.

"The court believes Sgt. Akbar is not on trial in this case," Osborn said. "It would only open the door to a mini-trial" and confuse the issue.

He's (Hasan) also left little question about why he did it, repeatedly saying before the trial started that he was acting to protect Taliban leaders in Afghanistan from the U.S. military.

Prosecutors hope to show that the devout Muslim had undergone a "progressive radicalization," going so far as to give academic presentations in defense of suicide bombings.

But Osborn declined to allow the prosecution to allow much of the evidence that prosecutors say goes to motive, saying "motive is not an element of the crime."

She also said the evidence, particularly the e-mails with Anwar al-Awlaki of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, would create undue prejudice.

Jury Deliberations Underway

Though Hasan served as his own attorney, he didn't present much of a defense for himself.

In his opening statement, he admitted to the killings - he's called the war in Afghanistan illegal - and he's confessed that the killings were premeditated to prevent the deployment of US soldiers who would then be fighting against or killing Muslims.

Hasan declined to make a closing argument in his defense and the jury started deliberations yesterday.

I don't think his refusal to offer a defense other than pro-Islamic rhetoric is an appeals strategy. I think Hasan is a narcissist who wants to be hailed as hero by fundamentalists and die a martyr.

He's a complete POS.

Here's the latest.

RE: Mass Murdering Terrorist, Nidal Hasan - Court Martial - HairOfTheDog - 08-28-2013

Army Maj. Nidal Hasan rested the sentencing phase of his case Tuesday without speaking in his own defense after his victims' loved ones spent the morning telling of the grief he caused in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage.

The self-confessed "soldier of Allah" declined to make his own case for martydom as some expected. The judge then recessed the hearing until Wednesday.

Earlier, the Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people and injured at least 30 in the military base massacre sat mute at the defense table as relatives of victims gave emotional testimony about the toll the American-born Muslim took on their lives.

At the minimum, the 42-year-old Hasan, who was left paralyzed after being shot during his rampage, will spend the rest of his life in prison. A jury soon will decide if Hasan deserves a death sentence.

Death Sentence Rendered

The jury elected to sentence Hasan to death today.

IIRC, there are 6 other military prisoners on death row and no military prisoner has been executed since the 60s.

Many speculated that Hasan's refusal to put on a defense in his capacity serving as his own attorney was because he wanted to be viewed as a martyr. He'll never be anything but a mass murderer and an 'effin waste of space, IMO.

Here's what the prosecutor said about Hasan's martyrdom quest:

"He is a criminal. He is a cold-blooded murderer," Col. Mike Mulligan said Wednesday in his final plea for a rare military death sentence. "This is not his gift to God. This is his debt to society. This is the cost of his murderous rampage."

Times up, Hasan; just another caged animal unfit for society. 105

Really hope not to see this asshole in the news again until his death announcement.

Great!

Now let's finally label it terrorism so the survivors of the dead and wounded can get the medals, awards, and proper benefits they deserve.

Would love to see him drawn & quartered, with his entrails burned in front of him (just before he dies).

A person can wish, right?
