Christie is the governor of New Jersey and touted as a possible 2016 presidential candidate. He's known as a Republican who is more bi-partisan on issues than a lot of his party (which many of the more conservative amongst them really don't appreciate).
So he's embroiled in a big scandal at present - it's been all over the political news pages this week.
Christie claims he had no direct knowledge of the petty, idiotic, spiteful actions of some of his staff, but the matter is still under investigation. Some pundits and politicians are claiming that Christie could be impeached if it turns out he was involved.
It's been proven that Christie's staff was behind the closures and he took the first steps Thursday toward rehabilitation - apologizing profusely and announcing that he had fired two close aides connected to the closing of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, the nation's busiest, to punish the mayor of Fort Lee, New Jersey, for not endorsing him in his re-election bid last year. The lane closings caused massive traffic jams in Fort Lee.
Christie this week fired his deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, for her role in the lane closure, which was captured in e-mail correspondence that was subpoenaed by Democrats investigating the matter.
The e-mail exchanges are among the most damaging evidence so far supporting their assertions the lane closures were politically motivated. The correspondence began three weeks before access lanes to the bridge were closed.
"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Kelly said in an e-mail to David Wildstein, then the highest-level appointee representing the state at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the bridge connecting the two states. "Got it," Wildstein replied. Wildstein resigned his post last month.
Christie's foes in the Tea Party are, of course, chomping at the bit to knock him down a peg. Judson Phillips, who heads the Tea Party Nation, made a public statement, "This incident is proof that once again the most dangerous place on the earth is the spot between Chris Christie and his presidential ambitions."
I kinda like Christie and hope he wasn't involved, though it still looks bad that he had top staff members who abused their authority so broadly over something so petty as a grudge.

The tea party obviously don't like him he's an ideal candidate for the Republicans!
A truly bi-partisan Republican stands a good chance of being president.
Independent voters (like maggotyboo lol!) Are scared of a tea bagger president and rightly so.

I like him too & believe he's the only Republican who could give Hillary a run for her money. I've always believed him to be a straight shooter & admired that attitude. After Hurricane Sandy hit his state he had a tremendous amount of praise for Obama and Republicans were pissed. They didn't want to hear that shit and gave him some grief over it.
My news comes out of Philly and it's been nothing but this scandal for days now. I want to believe him.

I think he was really excited to become president.
I DON'T think he expected there would be so much animosity, and dare I say, hatred, directed towards him.
Is he a great statesman? Not in my opinion.
Has he had some boneheaded ideas? Sure.
But, the Republicans have been out to 'get him' since Day One.
I can't help but thinks its because he's black.
Very embarrassing for our country in my opinion.

I was thinking Hillary would be good for the country until Benghazi. The White water thing and Vince Foster death ending any smoking gun was just a case of laying down with dogs. But Benghazi is different as she was Secretary of state. She should have come clean on that one as it will bite her in her ample ass.

He had weight loss surgery almost a year ago. That's when I began to think he really was going to make a run for the White House. It doesn't appear to be working like I've seen it work for so many others. There has been no dramatic weight loss.

One of his long-time critics is New Jersey Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone.
Pallone wrote that he was concerned about the bidding process for the firm awarded the marketing plan for attracting tourists back to the area after Superstorm Sandy; the winning firm is charging the state about $2 million more than the next lowest bidder. The winning $4.7 million bid featured Christie and his family in the advertisements while the losing $2.5 million proposal did not feature the Christies.
On Sunday, Pallone told CNN that the inspector general conducted a preliminary review of the spending and concluded that there was enough evidence to launch a full-scale investigation into the state's use of federal funds. The audit will take several months, and the findings will be issued in an official report, he said.

When it rains, it pours.
It's my understanding that all federally-allocated funds are subject to audit/review - so I'm not sure whether this one is being conducted as standard operating procedure and Pallone and pals are spinning, or if there really is some question about unfairness or illegalities in the bidding process.
I'm waiting to hear some real evidence on these allegations against Christie. Regarding the Sandy audit, his office replied, "We're confident that any review will show that the ads were a key part in helping New Jersey get back on its feet after being struck by the worst storm in state history."
