Holy Cow!

I'm glad the crime was committed by a dot and not a feather.

It really bothers me when REAL Americans kill other Americans.

I expect this type of behavior from foreigners.

Going to college or having graduated does not mean a person is smart or of superior intellect.

Were you wearing a cardigan and typing real slow with a calm smile when you made this post, Mr. Maggers? I agree with your statement of the obvious. Smiley_emoticons_smile

The victim, Ashley Hasti, was described as extremely smart by her family and by her medical professor, based on what she did with her knowledge. I have no basis or motivation to question their perceptions.

As for the killer, he was very well-educated. I don't know if he was also of superior intellect, but it wouldn't surprise me either way. It doesn't really matter to me; he was a homicidal madman regardless of his comparative intellect.

UCLA Shooting - Updates

So far, LE has no evidence that Sarkar, the UCLA gunman, committed other crimes on his drive from Minnesota to California, but the investigation is still underway.

His car was located in Culver City yesterday and was swept by the bomb squad. There were no explosives inside; a handgun and gas containers were found in the trunk.

Police believe he parked the Nissan in the residential area and took a bus to the UCLA campus.

Sarkar was originally from India -- he had a green card, and had studied/worked in Texas, California, and Minnesota.

Gay Bar in Orlando shot up, 20 dead

About 20 people dead, at least 42 taken to hospital after shooting at downtown Orlando nightclub

http://www.wesh.com/news/multiple-shots-reported-at-downtown-orlando-nightclub/40017844

Law enforcement officers and emergency crews descended on Pulse nightclub off Orange Avenue and Kaley Street around 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to authorities, an officer working at the club responded to a shots fired just after 2 a.m. As officers engaged the suspect in a gun battle, the incident turned into a hostage situation, police said. SWAT teams responded to the scene.

According to Orlando Police Chief John Mina, the decision was made to rescue hostages around 5 a.m. At that point, SWAT team members exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who has since been confirmed dead.

Police said the shooter was armed with an assault-type rifle, a handgun and some sort of device.

While he wouldn’t give an exact number, Mina said about 20 people are dead inside the nightclub. At the scene, many other victims could be seeing being carried or walked to nearby Orlando Regional Medical Center, which was placed on lockdown.

Mina said more than 40 people were taken to various area hospitals.

Local authorities are being helped by state and federal agencies in the emergency response and investigation.

A witness reported hearing about 40 gunshots at the club, but authorities have not confirmed how many rounds were fired.

The emergency response has prompted multiple road closures around the nightclub. Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

A loud noise near the nightclub around 5 a.m. was confirmed by authorities to have been a "controlled explosion," which was used as a distraction, police said.

"Everyone get out of pulse and keep running," the club posted on its official Facebook page at 2:09 a.m.

ORMC has set up a meeting area for family members who believe they may have a loved one being treated in the hospital as a result of the shooting. If you believe this is the case, and you are an immediate family member, go to the main entrance of ORMC's new north tower at 52 West Underwood St., where you will be escorted to the area. Identification will be required for admittance.

Authorities are asking witnesses to go to Orlando Police headquarters at 100 S. Hughey Ave.

It's horrible. So many dead, so many injured. I'm interested in knowing why I'm seeing some media outlets reporting it as terrorism.

Devout Muslim SHOOTS DEAD AT LEAST 20 at Florida gay club after bursting in ‘wearing a SUICIDE VEST’ and TAKING HOSTAGES

CURRENT AFFAIRS GAY UNDER ISLAMIC LAW (SHARIA) JIHAD IN AMERICA 00 Comments

Where is gay leadership? Condemning me or my colleagues who oppose the most brutal and extreme ideology on the face of the earth.

Where are the left-wing, the gay and LGBT organizations denouncing the Islamic texts that inspire such mayhem and murder of gays? Where is that fierce gay leadership condemning Muslim oppression of gays under the sharia? The silence is deafening.

They were loud and proud against our ads. They were holding press conferences condemning me. Gay organizations in America say nothing about this, but loudly condemned my ad campaign highlighting Muslim oppression of gays under the sharia. Why haven’t we heard from this City Council, or this Human Rights Commission, SFHRC head Theresa Sparks, but most especially the enemedia that scrubs their coverage of motive? They called our ads hate and issued a resolution condemning our AFDI ad campaign (the first of its kind) against our organization for merely quoting Muslim political leaders, spiritual leaders and cultural voices in the Muslim community who call for the torture and death of gay people.

Where is the outrage about the root causes of this murderous attack?

“‘We consider this an act of terrorism’: Suspected Islamic extremist shoots dead at least 20 dead at Florida gay club after bursting in ‘wearing a suicide vest’ and taking hostages – injuring a further 42,” by Matt Hunter and Jenny Stanton, Dailymail.com, June 12, 2016:

A suspected Islamic extremist wielding an assault rifle and a handgun has killed about 20 people after taking party-goers hostage inside a gay nightclub in Orlando.

The gunman was carrying a suspicious device, possibly a suicide vest, when he opened fire inside Pulse in the early hours of this morning.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said authorities have not determined the exact number of people killed, but that ‘approximately 20’ have died. Another 42 people were taken to hospital.

An FBI spokesman said the mass shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism. He explained authorities are looking into whether this was an act of domestic or international terror, and if the shooter was a lone wolf.

Police said the gunman was believed to be in his 20s was not a local man, and the FBI believe he may have ‘leanings to radical Islamic terrorism’.

The killings took place less than four miles from where The Voice singer and YouTube star Christina Grimmie, 22, was shot dead at The Plaza Live in Orlando on Friday.

Party-goers were urged to ‘get out and keep running’ as bullets started flying at around 2am local time.

Eyewitnesses described the gunman having a bomb strapped to himself when he started shooting today.

At around 6.00 local time (11am GMT) police said on Twitter: ‘Pulse Shooting: The shooter inside the club is dead.’ Officers described it as a ‘mass shooting’.

One man who said he was inside the club posted that the shooting broke out around 2 a.m. and that he heard about 40 shots being fired.

Police earlier carried out an controlled explosion at 5.15 local time (10.15am GMT today). but it is not yet clear whether that was linked with the gunman’s death.

It was thought that at least one hostage had been locked in a bathroom with gunshot wounds.

Around 100 officers were involved in the hostage situation before the gunman was killed.

During the gunfire, an officer was shot, but he was saved by his helmet.

Local TV reporter Stewart Moore said that more than 20 people had been shot with an assault rifle.

Jon Alamo said he was at the back of one of the club’s rooms when a man holding a weapon came into the front of the room.

‘I heard 20, 40, 50 shots,’ Alamo said. ‘The music stopped.’

Club-goer Rob Rick said it happened around, 2 a.m., just before closing time. ‘Everybody was drinking their last sip,’ he said.

He estimated more than 100 people were still inside when he heard shots, got on the ground and crawled toward a DJ booth.

A bouncer knocked down a partition between the club area and an area in the back where only workers are allowed. People inside were able to then escape through the back of the club.

Christopher Hansen said he was in the VIP lounge when he started hearing gunshots.

‘I was thinking, are you kidding me? So I just dropped down. I just said please, please, please, I want to make it out,’ he said. ‘And when I did, I saw people shot. I saw blood. You hope and pray you don’t get shot.’

He continued to hear shooting even after he emerged, where police were telling people to back away from the club. He saw injured people being tended to across the street.

Mina Justice was outside the club trying to contact her 30-year-old son Eddie, who texted her when the shooting happened and asked her to call police.

He told her he ran into a bathroom with other club patrons to hide. He then texted her: ‘He’s coming.’

‘The next text said: `He has us, and he’s in here with us,” she said. ‘That was the last conversation.’

Ricardo Almodovar was in the nightclub. He said: ‘Shooter opened fire at around 2.00am. People on the dance floor and bar got down on the floor and some of us who were near the bar and back exit managed to go out through the outdoor area and just ran.

‘I am safely home and hoping everyone gets home safely as well.’ Juan Rivera said on Twitter: ‘Never seen so many dead bodies on the floor, God is good that my friends and I didn’t get shot’.

Anthony Torres heard people screaming that others in the nightclub were dead.

Rosie Feba was in the club with her girlfriend and described the moment the shooting happened to the Orlando Sentinal.

She said: ‘Everyone was getting on the floor.I told her [girlfriend] I didn’t think it was real, I thought it was just part of the music, until I saw fire coming out of his gun.’

A police dispatcher described the incident as an ‘active shooting’. Officers are advising locals to stay away from the area.

He said: ‘There are injuries. I am not sure if there are any deceased at this time.’

‘Officers are going in to search the building and to get people out,’ the dispatcher said.

The police department posted on their official Twitter account: ‘Multiple injuries. Stay away from the area.’

Pulse nightclub said on its Facebook account: ‘Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running.’

Dozens of officers and medics are at the scene including Orlando Fire Department’s bomb squad and hazardous material team.

Police have not given any further updates on the hostage situation or the gunman….

Pamela Geller? You people are killin' me.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Duchess - 06-12-2016

CNN is reporting that 50 people are dead. My God.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Duchess - 06-12-2016

I'm watching and listening to some firsthand accounts from people that were in the club. It was so scary and there was so much blood. Some people froze in fear and the shooter went right to them. 21

According to a few networks the shooter is an American citizen. Some in the media talked to his father who said the shooter saw two gays kissing (in Miami I think it was said) and it really pissed him off. I guess this is the end result if that's the truth.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Maggot - 06-12-2016

He was a registered democrat not that that means anything but may very well once the talking heads get ahold of it. I wish someone had a gun to shoot back though and where were all the other security guards? He certainly was a super nutcase.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Duchess - 06-12-2016

It wasn't that long ago that I was very pro gun but my feelings have evolved the past 3-4 years and I now firmly believe that life supercedes one's desire to shoot high capacity magazines. I've read many of the arguments for them so I'm not going to debate it with anyone, there's nothing to debate, it's how I feel and it won't be changing. I don't support anyone's right to have them. Someone deserves to live more than you deserve to have fun. That's a general you and not directed at any one person.

This isn't going to stop.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - HairOfTheDog - 06-12-2016

What a very sad day for the victims' families, friends and the country.

While ISIS is reportedly being crippled greatly on the ground in Iraq and Syria by the U.S. and allied forces, it's nearly impossible to stop their global social media reach and ability to inspire disgruntled people around the world to inflict terror in their name. We all saw it coming a couple of years ago it's not gonna stop anytime soon.

I just caught an update on CBS News. As posted upthread, the Orlando killer reportedly hated gays and was incensed by gays showing affection in front of his wife and child. He called 911, gave his full name, and pledged allegiance to ISIS as he launched his attack. He wanted the attention and credit for the attack. He also mentioned the Tsaernaev brothers (Boston Marathon bombers) in that 911 call.

The killer was an American security guard whose parents immigrated from Afghanistan and he had been on FBI's radar for some reason in the past, but it's not clear yet if local LE was in-the-know.

It appears the FBI is considering this an act of terror inspired by hate. The killer, armed with a hand gun and an AR-15 rifle with a high capacity mag, chose a soft target populated by members of the gay community.

RIP to the deceased. I hope the wounded pull through and the death toll doesn't increase, but it probably will.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Older Than Dirt - 06-12-2016

MY heart hurts.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - HairOfTheDog - 06-12-2016

Yesterday, a 27-year-old man with a gun entered a concert venue in Orlando and shot to death 22-year-old singer Christina Grimmie. Her brother attacked the shooter and the shooter killed himself.

The shooter traveled from St. Petersburg, FL to kill her (not a lot of details as to why yet).

Grimmie was a finalist on The Voice a couple of years back.

The FBI, NSA and local LE stops hundreds of potential terrorists and killers every year. They can't stop them all.

Personally, I don't wanna see soft target venues allowing patrons to carry guns. That cuts both ways and could result in more shooting deaths, though it might also result in a citizen stopping a shooter earlier. I think more security and pat downs on entry is a better solution.

RIP Christina Grimmie.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Love Child - 06-12-2016

The shooting this morning is devastating, as are all of them.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - blueberryhill - 06-12-2016

I agree with those who say this was just another crazy who hated gays....read somewhere and don't know veracity of same, but that he saw two guys kissing and that upset him according to his father.....I don't think this was technically IS related.....

O.K. sorry i confused anyone earlier.....I confuse myself the most.....and Maggs, nutcases belong to both parties, they just are more prevalent among Republicans...hehe......

Right now I am arguing with a "friend" who has sent me tons of anti-Obama, Hillary, etc. emails for last 8 years. I have asked her not to send this crap to me. I got one yesterday, which stated that Obama was encouraging that the Quran be taught in the public schools....this isn't true....check it out, politifact, fact check, snopes, etc....She insists I do research and I am stupid for not believing it....then I tell her I can't believe how gullible she is and that is why she is supporting Trump. Oh dear, I may have called her an idiot, too....

This was a gigantic hate crime IMO.....RIP to the victims and condolences to the families and friends....
I have always supported tighter security re gun control and I like that one state, at least, has ruled that the 2nd amendment doesn't give you the right to carry concealed weapon.....and why are assault rifles even sold to the general public......I have always been an advocate of appropriate and responsible gun ownership. My family has always owned guns and have been hunters.....

I can recall when I was a young girl riding horseback with my Uncle in the pastures fixing fences and him carrying his rifle to kill coyotes who were menacing and stalking the cattle........they are all Republicans by the way......I am the black sheep.....
