He was committed to a mental institution after telling the FBI that government voices in his head were pushing him to fight for ISIS, he had combat and weapons training in the military, he'd recently tried to choke his wife...

And, yet, he was not put on the No-Fly List. Under current law, that wouldn't have stopped him from possessing a gun (unless a doctor and court also ruled him incompetent), but would have at least prevented him from getting on a plane.

In this case though, he could have carried out the same soft-target mass shooting attack at any airport in the country by just walking in. Baggage claim and check-in areas are very loosely secured.

Anyway..........the press conference this morning was mostly a whole lot of "it's too early in the investigation to say", but the FBI investigator did confirm that Santiago is cooperating, LE has interviewed over 175 witnesses, no evidence of an in-flight altercation or other triggers has been uncovered thus far, and LE is still not sure why Santiago flew to Fort Lauderdale.

As the investigation into the Fort Lauderdale airport mass murder continues, it's been revealed that...

-- Authorities now believe it was planned for some time. An in-flight altercation causing a rage shooting has been ruled out; motive still unknown.

-- The shooter's family believes that he is mentally ill as a result of combat in Iraq.

-- The shooter's brother says that he sought and received some help, but it wasn't enough.

-- Police were called to the home the shooter shared with his wife last January. He'd kicked in the bathroom door, punched and strangled his wife. He pleaded 'no contest' and was entered into a program instead of serving jail time.

-- Six (not eight, as originally reported) were wounded and hospitalized. They are still in the hospital; two in critical condition.

-- The shooter had his conceal-carry permitted handgun with him when he visited the FBI in Alaska two months ago and told them about the voices telling him to follow ISIS. He was taken to local LE and his gun was taken from him when he agreed to commit himself for mental health evaluation. He was released 4 days later and his gun was returned. Authorities believe it's the same 9mm Santiago used in the mass shooting.

TMZ published video of the first shots fired by Esteban Santiago in the baggage claim.

Pretty incredible, huh. I understand there is protocol and legalities involved but they knew he was unstable and they knew he could be violent and still, they gave him gun back. Man.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - Midwest Spy - 01-08-2017

Here, Crazy Fucker, we know you're Batshit and capable of violence, but, our hands are tied.

There's nothing that legally allows us to take your gun, so we'll just have to wait until you commit a crime.

And, even if they would have taken his gun, would there have been anything in place that would've prohibited him from purchasing another one immediately?

I doubt it.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - HairOfTheDog - 01-08-2017

It is pretty incredible, Duchess.

And, MS is right.

The only way Santiago could have been prevented from legally buying/possessing firearms after his FBI visit was if he'd been declared mentally ill by both a doctor and a judge (and that diagnosis had been reported to NICS).

Esteban Santiago, handcuffed, shackled and wearing a red, maximum-security jumpsuit, spoke in a monotone Monday as he answered questions from a judge during a court hearing that lasted about 30 minutes.

[Image: 2400.jpg?w=300&q=55&auto=format&usm=12&f...4affa8b88f]

"The maximum penalty, if you were to be convicted, is death — it is a capital offense," U.S. Magistrate Valle told him. A bond hearing was scheduled for Jan. 17 and an arraignment, during which Santiago will formally plead to the charges against him, is set for Jan. 23.

Esteban's mother told reporters that she doesn't think the death penalty should apply because her son is a citizen who protected his country in the military and he needs help.

Esteban told investigators shortly after his arrest that doctors said he might be schizophrenic when he was evaluated back in November.

The gun that was taken from him when he was committed for mental evaluation was returned to him by local LE about a month later (about one month before he used it to murder 5 people at the Fort Lauderdale Airport).

Esteban's brother told reporters that he doesn't understand why the gun was returned to Esteban given that he was clearly unstable, he'd proactively told the FBI that he was hearing voices and having violent thoughts, and he'd asked for help. The brother blames authorities for what went down.

The gun was a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and Esteban had packed two cartridges. The gun and ammo were his only luggage. Scary to think how much more damage he could have done if he'd had more ammo or a weapon with a higher capacity before reload.

The wife of Omar Mateen, the scumbag who terrorized and killed 49 people at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando last year, was charged and arrested today. Good.

I don't know why ^ Noor Salman wasn't arrested sooner, unless LE suspected that she was guilty of more that aiding and abetting and couldn't get evidence to back those suspicions.

Salman moved to the Bay Area where she has family after the mass murder. She recently applied to change the last name of the son she shared with Mateen.

In any case, she will be formally charged with aiding and abetting her now-dead husband in a San Francisco courtroom tomorrow. LE alleges that she accompanied Mateen to buy ammo and helped him scout mass shooting locations, including Pulse.

Salman and her attorneys claim she tried to stop Mateen.

MLK day parade sparks shooting in Miami

MIAMI – A national holiday that was supposed to be about nonviolence erupted into mayhem in Miami when police say eight people were wounded in a shooting at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.

It is not sure what started the shooting on Monday afternoon. Hundreds of people had gathered in the park after the annual MLK Day parade in the Liberty City neighborhood. People scattered in all directions when they heard the gunfire.

The wounded ranged in age from 11 to 30. 2 suspects were being questioned.

My best guess is it was NOT the KKK.

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - SIXFOOTERsez - 01-17-2017

No it wasn't. I was looking at the videos and every one of them had 30 or 40 african americans either screaming into their cell phones or trying to get video or just screaming at each other

Fort Lauderdale Airport Shooter Indicted on 22 Counts

A federal grand jury indicted 26-year-old Iraq veteran Esteban Santiago for the January 6th shooting deaths of five people in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2.

Fatal Victims: Mary Louise Amzibel, Michael John Oehme, Olga M . Woltering, Shirley Wells Timmons and Terry Michael Andres. RIP.

The indictment includes five counts of "violence at a international airport resulting in death," as well as numerous weapons charges for allegedly firing a Walther 9-millimeter pistol.

U.S. law specifically prohibits, and specifies federal jurisdiction over, the unauthorized use of weapons inside an international civilian airport. The provision was part of the massive Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.

Santiago is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Jan. 30, according to a press release by the Department of Justice.

I remember watching some video of when the shooting started and those people didn't even know which way to run. I saw one poor old lady damn near running in circles. It was heartbreaking :(

Meanwhile in Canada, where guns are illegal...

RE: ANOTHER PUBLIC SHOOTING - HairOfTheDog - 01-30-2017

Guns are illegal in Canada. 28

You better rush over the border and tell the Canadians that, Gunnar. They might laugh at you too though because I'm pretty sure Canadians know that guns are not illegal in Canada.

Canadian law classifies firearms into three categories: prohibited, restricted, and non-restricted. Prohibited firearms include military-grade assault weapons such as AK-47s and sawn-off rifles or shotguns. Handguns and some semi-automatic rifles are generally classified as restricted weapons, while most rifles and shotguns are non-restricted. To get a restricted firearm, Canadians must pass a background check (including personal references) and take a safety course. You can get more information here or on hundreds of other sites: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Canada

Legal but well controlled gun access is effective in Canada. The most recent stats available (2012) show that Canada had a total of 172 murders involving the use of firearms, whereas there were 8,813 firearms-related homicides in the U.S. that year. http://www.nationalobserver.com/2015/12/04/news/how-american-gun-deaths-and-gun-laws-compare-canadas

In any event, it's terrible that 6 people were killed while attending Mosque in Quebec. RIP. And, nobody doubts that some criminals can get a hold of guns illegally most anywhere. But, we don't know yet if the two fuckers arrested in Quebec had guns legally or not, nor do we know their motives.
