He's awesome. He calls a spade a spade. I think he'd be so much fun to hang with.

There's been a few snippets dropped about the special teams gunner (Nolan Caroll) that we picked up from the Dolphins challenging Fletcher and Williams for a starting spot at corner. From what I gather, he's a contender.

Fletcher and Williams aren't exactly big names in the CB department - Fletch from a mediocre Rams defense and Williams a backup for the Ravens. They have the skillset these coaches are looking for tho. Carrol fits that same build. Good press corner, bigger dude, can interrupt timing of routes. If our safety play improves, the corners will do their thing.

I don't want to accuse anyone of faking an injury but I also don't want to see guys laying on the field gasping for air claiming they are hurt either. That shit was pissing me off last year but it's really difficult to hurl accusations when one doesn't know for sure. So when you see those guys out there doing that you can bet your ass Duchess is cussing a blue streak.
The best rule I could come up with to combat that was that every player brought out of the game for injury has to sit out the series. If a player walks off the field alone, no worries, but if trainers need to come onto the field to get him, then he should be medically evaluated for at least the rest of the series. I think it could even be considered safer to guard against concussions, and that's a hot ticket interest for the NFL execs.

32nd in the league last year. And keep in mind that the Ravens were coming off a SB winning season. I think Roseman snatched them up as an offering of stability for Chip in the backfield more than anything else (neither has been anything close to shut down corners, but they weren't speed bumps either). I read that we're happy with Boykin in the slot, so it's down to those 3 for corner positions and Caroll has been pretty physical and being a gunner you know he has speed. Time will tell.

Right, Davis seems to want longer corners on the outside. Boykin is probably the best slot corner in the league, but he's got ups and probably wants to play outside to be a "starter" to make starter money. They've got him for a couple years, but if he isn't making big bucks in 2 years, I think he goes elsewhere.

I think at least Fletcher came with the new coaching staff. Shurmur was the OC for the Rams in 2010, Fletcher was drafted there in 2009. The assistant d-backs coach, Todd Lyght, also played for the Rams back in the 90s and coached for Chip at Oregon. So I'm sure those coaches had some familiarity with Fletch. Williams, as you said, won a SB with the Ravens, so he may have been more hyped and sought after I guess.

But I think Roseman targeted them based off what the coaches said they want in a corner. Our corners caught tons of flak this past season and our secondary overall was one of the worst... but they actually played with good technique. There were a lot of times that all 3 of our corners would drape one arm on the receiver, bend around them, and knock the ball away with the other hand. That's good coverage. It gets called for PI sometimes, but the Eagles CBs haven't been able to do that for years. I thought they were better. We were actually like 7th or 8th in the league for the number of passes defensed.

RE: NFL 2014 - Cutz - 07-02-2014

I'd also note that the Eagles played 5 of the top 6 passing offenses in the league last year, and played the 6th (saints, 2nd overall) in the playoffs. On average, the passing attack of the other team (in ypg) was about 14th ranked in the league. Which is only slightly better than average, and goes hand in hand with bad defensive play, but worth noting.

That's what I'm smokin'. A little bit more speed and physical play could go a long way in that backfield. Regardless of who gets the job, competition is healthy in our backfield. I like where it's going.

I agree with this & I don't understand why something like this hasn't already been endorsed. It's needed.

I saw your comment about Brandon Boykin. I like him right where he is. I think he does an excellent job and I expect him to be even better at it this year. I would have kissed his ass after the Dallas game last year. Not kidding. I'm a fan of his because of that.

Players agents would lose their minds if that was a rule. Not that, that is a bad thing. Players stats are their bread and butter.

If it were for a quarter I'd agree, but currently players assisted off the field have to sit out at least one play unless a timeout is called. Going by averages, (65-70 plays per game, 12 possessions per team per game), that's still only about 6 plays per series on average. Increasing it from 1 play to 5 plays unless a timeout is called? Completely feasible, but making it for a series instead of a set number of plays attacks the actual goal of players not faking injury for a rest on long drives.

It's a sound suggestion Cutz, that's why the NFL will never do it. hah

Germany 7-1 over Brazil today.

Unbelievable.

RE: NFL 2014 - Midwest Spy - 07-08-2014

Hey, Vikings and Eagles do have something in common.

They're the only 2 NFC teams to go to multiple Super Bowl's and not win.

Arizona & Carolina each lost In their lone appearance.

Detroit has never made it.

The Vikings and Eagles also have a RB in the top ten of the "Top 100 Players in the NFL" as voted on by their peers.

Unfortunately, I feel like Adrian's best years are behind him.

I'll never question his heart or competitiveness though, ever.

Hey Cutz, pretty cool that Jordon Matthews is spending the next few weeks in the company of the best wideouts in the NFL, huh.
