RE: NFL 2014 - Duchess - 01-19-2015

Richard Sherman was playing with some serious pain. I'd sorta cringe every time the camera cut to him. When Victor Cruz went down this year someone said he was screaming. It's bad enough to see some of the injuries happen, like when they're writhing on the ground, but I'm really glad I don't hear 'em.

RE: NFL 2014 - crash - 01-19-2015

I was pretty disappointed about it all yesterday, but today, I'm pretty happy with the year my team had. We made it one step further than last year. We made most of the rest of the NFC North look ordinary. We came away with our fourth NFC North title in a row. We kicked the cowgirls to the kerb. I'm pretty happy with that.

I don't really have a preference between Seattle and the Pats. If Wilson doesn't fire again, I can't see them beating the Pats, especially if the Pats can put early points in the Seattle D like the Pack did yesterday.

I hate the Pats.

At least one of them is Bridget Moynahan's.

The State?

Yeah, the state of perfection.

Deflated footballs...Jesus wept!

This isn't coming from the Colts or the fans. Just some butthurt douchebag Indy reporter that can't get over the fact the Colts never showed up for the game.

I think the guys balls were deflated at the end of the game.
And Ramseykittens is just jealous.

AFC SOUTH: Colts, Jags, Texans, Titans
AFC NORTH: Bengals, Ravens*, Browns, Steelers
AFC WEST: Broncos, Chargers*, Chiefs, Raiders
my predictions.

Well, I was hella big wrong on the Cowboys, but I think part of that will be perennial wishful thinking. I also had the Panthers 3rd in the division while they came in first, hugely oversold the Bears/Jets and way undersold the Lions/Steelers, and flipped the Jags/Texans (but correctly guessed neither would make the playoffs.)

Overall, I had 58 division winners correct and 24 Wildcards. I'd take those odds in Vegas.

One area MS's prediction completely trumped mine was the Steelers in the AFC North. I thought that team was gonna be garbage after their awful preseason... but they had a rather impressive year. Their QB is still a dirty rapist tho, so fuk em.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that 11 of New England's 12 balls were under-inflated. It's said that had that one ball not been intercepted the only people who would have known would have been New England's offense. Too bad Tom Brady addressed it in an interview, he looks like a liar now given the QB would surely have felt the difference.

What's your opinion on their salary cap, will they be cutting any star players? Can they afford Ray Rice?

The plot certainly thickens...I stand corrected on my original post. hah

The referees are the ones that check the footballs before they go into play. I really don't think there was any intentional manipulation of their balls. MS will say that nobody can manipulate their balls like him so I think it is still a lame accusation.

He was just talking to me about that moments ago.

Irregardless, this doesn't look good given their cheating scandal from years ago.

After the officials check the balls, they go back to the ball handler who can then manipulate them. I read some are blaming the officials because they touched the ball between each play and didn't detect any irregularities.

I think Maggs was pointing out that the refs are supposed to check the game ball after every play. They don't go back to the equipment handler after that. They stay on the field. I look at it this way guys, Stevie Bellichick will do whatever it takes to give his team the advantage in a game. He's proven it time and time again. The NFL needs to make a decision regarding what their stance is on manipulating the rules and come down hard on those that do it. A $20, 000 fine doesn't mean jack shit to a coach thats sitting on a pile of cash. Penalizing the team in the draft is not effective either. I say zero tollerance. You wanna play games and cheat to give your team an advantage, DQ the team and ban the coach from the NFL. I guarantee you won't see scandals like this ever again.

That's what I read initially too. But, the plot does seem to be thickening.

Newsday reports that Colts officials complained to the league about the balls during halftime, when the Patriots were leading 17-7. The paper says it's still not clear whether the balls were used during the third quarter when the Patriots scored 21 points and put the title out of reach for the Colts.

Colts linebacker D’Qwell Jackson reportedly noticed something different about the ball and gave it to the team's equipment manager after an interception.

It's not yet clear what, if any, penalties the Patriots may face as a result of the probe. The Boston Globe reports that the team could face a minimum fine of $25,000 and perhaps the loss of a draft pick.

So, I guess even it's proven that the balls were deflated for easier catching and handling (and not by a little, but reportedly by 2 pounds under regulation), there's no chance that the Patriots' victory will be rescinded?
