Kinda surprised me to read in an interview piece he did with ESPN following the appeal denial that he's considering just retiring because he feels unsupported by the NFL. He says he's considering focusing full time on his real estate biz and/or making an Olympics bid for the 200 and 400 meter dashes. I don't know how fast he is, but those Olympic runners are lightning quick. Still, he's financially secure enough to pursue a dream even if his chances of achieving it are remote.

I don't know if Peterson is attempting to stoke demand and up his value or if he's seriously considering walking away from pro football together, but I'm curious to see where he ends up.

I can see this happening. Many fans in Baltimore would forgive Ray Rice for beating the crap out of his wife (and did) so I don't think it's a stretch that many would forgive Adrian for switching his son. Lots of people want to win and will overlook atrocious behavior. I spent 5 years not thinking about what Michael Vick did with those dogs so that I could root for my team.

I think a lot of people had less a problem with Peterson beating his little boy than they did with Rice knocking out and dragging his fiancee. So, I could see him being generally accepted by fans who are more concerned about victories than players' personal lives/conduct too.

I don't know, HotD. Some have said (sports analysts) his career was on the down turn before this all went down, I never saw that, he's a star in Baltimore and beloved. I think his personality is such that he would have to come back, if only to prove to the naysayers that he still has it. I live in Raven's country and the fans want him back. Now that I've thought about it a little, yeah, I think he'll be back.

I'll answer this since this isn't the first time that you've asked Duchess about Peterson and she answers talking about Ray Rice.
Ray Rice has been a nice player, Duchess, but he's no Adrian Peterson.
I think AP is very frustrated by this whole process. I think the league is sticking it to him because they feel he's shown a lack of contrition and because he think re-instatement is his right.
The Ray Rice fiasco actually has hurt Peterson. The fact the league originally gave Rice 2 games and then tried to punish him further hurt AP. AP is now taking the brunt of the league's anger.
I don't think he'll really retire but he's super pissed off. The arbitrator that ruled in favor of the league this past week, in an ex-NFL employee who obviously was going to rule with Gooddell.
Adrian is scheduled to make nearly $14M next year with Minn. We will not bring him back, but I do expect him to join up with someone else. Probably a southern team where corporal punishment is more widely accepted.

Well, all those NFLers do look alike...So, MS, you think Hartman is way off-base in his contention that the Vikings' owner really wanna keep Peterson, despite potential initial resistance from fans?
Seems like Hartman has some insider knowledge, but I don't know anything about the guy or his connections.

NFL running backs beyond the age of 30 are not very effective.
I doubt that Vikings management really wants to bring him back, certainly not at $14M/year. I think AP is aware of this.
I do think, however, the the Viking fan base would be willing to accept him again, especially if just made a couple of statements here in MN that addressed corporal punishment and how he's an activist to get rid of it, or something along those lines.
Dallas seems to be a popular place for him to end up according to pundits.

I'm almost afraid to comment.
I'd like to see him stay with the Vikings but that's for purely selfish reasons. I don't think he'll retire and I don't think his reputation in the NFL is damaged beyond repair. Aside from his legal troubles I view him as a winner and I think if there is a way for the Vikings to keep him, they will.

49ers Release Defensive End Ray McDonald

So, Ray McDonald skated on the domestic violence arrest back in August.
The District Attorney did not pursue the case after McDonald's pregnant fiancee claimed that she'd hit McDonald first. The 49ers said right-off-the-bat that they'd not take action against him based only on allegations and would instead follow law enforcement's investigation.
Well..........a woman went to a hospital today and claims that she was "possibly sexually assaulted" by McDonald. I don't know if she claims she was drugged or what -- no details provided.
Even though no charges have yet been filed against McDonald regarding the alleged sexual assault, San Jose Police are actively investigating the claim and the 49ers organization has reportedly had enough.
"If this was one incident, we would be standing up here talking about due process, like we have multiple times, in multiple other situations,"49ers general manager Trent Baalke Baalke said. "But this is just a pattern of decision-making that Ray has demonstrated over a period of time that, once again, it's no longer going to be tolerated."
Baalke said he had numerous conversations with McDonald in the wake of the August arrest and had set forth criteria for McDonald to "stay in good standing" with the club.
In light of the second issue this week, Baalke said, "We weren't willing to deal with [it] anymore."
"It's not a situation you want to hear about. Very unfortunate," quarterback Colin Kaepernick said. "He's a good friend to a lot of people on this team. No one thought bad of him. Hopefully it's just a misunderstanding. ... I understand why the team did what it did. Other than that, it's not my business."

I think to AD, he's an icon. He's Adrian Peterson... All Day... the best in the league for almost the last decade. He recently came back from injury in a way nobody said he could. In his mind, the money isn't about supply and demand and getting paid... the money is a sign of respect. He's not willing to be disrespected when he knows he's the best. So I think he's very serious. If nobody in the league offers him a 10M+ salary, I could see him retiring. He wants that Peyton Manning status... when 8 different teams are vying for the same player, all offering competitive deals, and the player gets to pick the team he feels is the best opportunity regardless of money. AD wants to go to a Superbowl. That's one thing he hasn't had with Minnesota.
As far as Ray Mac... 49ers are a mess right now. They're still one of the better teams in the league, but they just don't have a certain something this season. They've got rumors all over that the coach is on his last leg there despite the success he's had. Ray is just the last trouble they need right now. I'll save judgement on the guy until all the facts come out, but he's certainly not the public image they're looking for right now.

IMO, the league has treated Peterson very unfairly while a guy like McDonald and the guy in Carolina essentially got off with nothing.
AP should be mad. This entire season has been taken from him, but it's the WAY in which the league did it to him that has him pissed.
Putting him on the Commissioner's list with a 'wink' that when the case is resolved in court, he'd serve a 2 game suspension and then be re-instated.
Well, Troy Vincent, one of the NFL's reps, who's on tape saying this to Adrian, denied saying that in the arbitration hearing that was overseen by an ex-NFL employee.
Sounds rigged to me.

Former New Orleans Saint and sports commentator Darren Sharper is charged with raping women in three different states: California, Arizona, and Louisiana. Similar accusations in Nevada are under investigation.
But, that's not all folks. He's now got the Feds scratching up his backside too.
The federal charges aren't for rape but instead focus on the drugs that Sharper is accused of slipping into victims' drinks before allegedly assaulting them.
In federal court, Sharper is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute Alprazolam, Diazepam, and Zolpidem with intent to commit rape and two counts of actually distributing them with intent to commit rape.
A former St. Bernard sheriff's deputy, Brandon Licciardi, 29, faces the same charges as Sharper as well as two counts of witness tampering and one count of impeding an investigation. Licciardi's name might sound familiar because he was one of three men, including Sharper, previously charged in New Orleans with multiple counts of rape.
According to the federal indictment, the conspiracy to distribute dates back to "at least January 2010 up to and including May 1, 2014." The distribution happened on two dates, the indictment says: Feb. 2, 2013 (the same day Licciardi is accused of committing an aggravated rape) and Sept. 23, 2013 (the same day Licciardi and Sharper are accused of committing rape).

Brandon Licciardi, 29, resigned from the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office after he was named alongside Sharper in federal and state indictments issued last Friday. Licciardi is a friend of Sharper.
FBI Special Agent Robert Blythe testified on Thursday that Licciardi told him he attended an NFL conference in Las Vegas where players warned him that drinks were spiked with drugs.
Blythe reportedly testified that Licciardi did not contact authorities in Las Vegas and referred to the spiked drink as "horny juice."
Blythe testified that Licciardi was concerned investigators might find incriminating text messages on his phone, including one where Sharper allegedly wrote, "She's on the potion. She's ready."

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Cunningham is embroiled in the latest high-profile case of so-called 'revenge porn' after he was charged with sharing explicit photos of a woman.
The Union County prosecutor's office said Cunningham was arrested December 29 in Summit, New Jersey, and charged with invasion of privacy, criminal mischief and unlawful weapons transport.
They allege Cunningham violated a law that forbids disclosing photos or videos without the consent of someone 'whose intimate parts are exposed' or who is engaged in a sex act.

So, Hope Solo was able to play with US Women's Soccer team all last season while the domestic assault charges against her were pending.
Finally, earlier this month, the charges were dropped because the family members whom she allegedly assaulted were no-shows at court hearings. So, Hope was in the clear. For a minute anyway...

On Wednesday, she was formally suspended for another off-field incident. When the U.S. Women's Soccer team takes the field in World Cup warmups next month, they will do so without their star goal keeper.
On Monday, Hope Solo's husband, Jerramy Stevens, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Solo was in the car at the time and was reportedly "acting belligerently" toward police and was nearly arrested herself.
On Wednesday, U.S. Soccer suspended Solo for 30 days, saying, "Hope made a poor decision that has resulted in a negative impact on U.S. Soccer and her teammates. We feel at this time it is best for her to step away from the team."
Stevens was her fiancé back in 2012 when he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after the two got into a fight. Charges were never filed and they got married the next day (sound familiar?). He was a tight-end for the Seattle Seahawks and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before he left the league in 2010. He's been arrested several times -- violence, alcohol, drugs.
In a statement Solo accepted her suspension, saying, "I think it's best for me to take a break, decompress from the stress of the last several months, and come back mentally and physically ready to contribute to the team." Yeah, good idea Hope.
She's an incredibly talented badass on the field, but a hotheaded dumbass off of it, in my opinion.
Anyway, Solo's suspension will be reviewed following the 30 days -- plenty of time for the Women's World Cup kickoff in June.
