Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell at her office yesterday.

She felt some discomfort during the night and checked herself into the hospital for evaluation in the morning.

The injuries (3 fractured ribs) are not life-threatening and there's likely no surgery involved in her recuperation, thankfully.

She's a tough old bird, usually a fall at her age (and younger) would result in a broken hip but she's got bones of steel.

my mom's doctorial dissertation classified "falls"; her conclusion, in the elderly there was a correlation  between the fall and death.  In a measurable percentage of the falls she studied, whether the person was injured or not, death followed in a few weeks. Her theory, the fall was an indicator, she speculated it was the mind letting go.

Your mother's a quack.

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - HairOfTheDog - 11-08-2018

Pappy, I own a senior home care business.

I work with seniors who fall every single day. Fractured or bruised ribs happen all the time and are not life-threatening or a sign of impending death unless the senior is already in very poor health.

RBG did not break any bones, didn't hit her head, didn't lie on the floor unassisted for hours, and is in otherwise good health for her age.

There's no reason to believe she won't recuperate fully.

Which president nominated the most Supreme court justices? FDR?

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - BigMark - 11-08-2018

News reports are coming in that she is brain dead.

But that shouldn't change any of her rulings.

  • Warren Harding: 4
  • Benjamin Harrison: 4
  • Grover Cleveland: 4
  • Ronald Reagan: 3
  • Herbert Hoover: 3

I reckon she is one more fall from retirement

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg appeared at an event at the Museum of the City in New York last night.

The 85-year-old Brooklyn native was interviewed by NPR legal correspondent Nina Totenberg.

Sitting on the stage, Ginsburg exuded the kind of vitality that has kept her going to the gym, lifting weights - a routine she was forced to interrupt last month when she fractured three ribs in a fall.

Ginsburg recuperated well and returned to work within a few days.  She is now back to her full work outs.  44

She will retire next year

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - HairOfTheDog - 12-21-2018

Justice Ginsburg recovered fully from fractured ribs following her recent fall.

However, during her short hospital stay, routine testing uncovered two malignant cancerous nodes.

RBG had them removed this morning and the doctors say there's no detectable cancer remaining; she's expected to return home in a couple of days.

I really hope she recuperates well.  The fall last month may have been a blessing in disguise.

A similar thing happened to my mom several years ago.  She had to be rushed to the hospital with terrible pain, which turned out to be a hernia.  The hernia was repaired easily and she recovered quickly, but during her short hospital stay, routine testing uncovered cancerous nodes that required 8 rounds of chemotherapy (which, thank god, did the trick).

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - Fry Guy - 12-21-2018

She is getting replaced next year by someone far more hardcore conservative like Amy Barrett and because Democrats failed to win the senate....

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - HairOfTheDog - 12-21-2018

Well, elections have consequences, as we all know.

Anyway, I hope Justice Ginsburg can achieve her goal of sitting on the Supreme Court until she's 90 and won't be too surprised if she manages another five years.

She's proven herself a fighter throughout her life.

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - Fry Guy - 12-21-2018

I really doubt it BUT I do not think that wishing any ill on her is a good thing. She has been through a lot and getting old sucks. Does she have what it takes to hang on and return to the Supreme Court and hold on by her fingertips in hope ill health does not finally overtake her? Would you wish THAT on her? I think she will retire next year. I do not doubt her strength and toughness. What she has been through would have taken out most. But I think she will want to accept she has run a long race and helped make a lot of changes and been a role model and now is time to take her leave.

RE: SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES - BigMark - 12-22-2018

She will die before she'll let trump pick her successor.
