This article on Melania had me feeling so bad. I really should give her more credit. Here are just a couple examples of the things she has done recently:
This holiday season, Mrs. Trump has made every effort to spread joy and good cheer to citizens across the country. In the past week alone, Mrs. Trump participated in a Toys for Tots toy drive, visited service members and families from three different branches of the military, and flew out to an aircraft carrier for one of the visits, in addition to her time with patients at Children's National hospital.

The Trump Foundation (registered as a tax-exempt non-profit charity) will be dissolved amid allegations that it’s being used as a piggy bank for Donald, Ivanka, Junior, and Eric Trump’s personal and political expenditures.
The New York Attorney General has been investigating the alleged financial improprieties for some time. Last month, a judge ruled against the Trumps’ request to drop the state’s lawsuit because the judge found there was sufficient evidence to move forward.
The funds currently in the Foundation will be dispersed to a mutually agreed upon list of valid charities, which will be done with strict supervision by the state.
The State Attorney General, Barbara Underwood, is also seeking to legally ban Donald Trump and the three eldest Trump children from serving on the board of any charities for a period of 10 years.

As The World Turns (Around 'The Wall')
A week ago today, this espisode of the Reality Show Presidency went down.
At that meeting (which was supposed to be private -- until Trump invited reporters to attend last-minute), Pelosi and Schumer offered to negotiate with Trump on additional border security funding. They explained that they too want strong border control and wished to avoid a costly government shutdown which would hold up paychecks for federal employees ahead of Christmas.
Pelosi and Schumer agreed to approve another $1.6 billion for border security, along with an extension to the current government funding bill in order to keep the government running until February. The goal of the latter was to give the Senate and new House leadership time to address budget issues more thoroughly.
Well, Trump insisted he wouldn't accept anything less than another $5 billion in tax-payer funding for The Wall, which he originally swore would instead be paid-for by Mexico. Trump figuratively stomped his feet and said he'd be willing to shutdown the government if he didn't get everything he wanted.

Even after Pelosi and Schumer advised him that a shutdown would be bad for American citizens and was not necessary, Trump dug his heels in further and said many times that he'd personally own the shutdown. That was a huge gift to the Democrats.
Much to my surprise (and to the surprise and disappointment of congressional Republicans), Trump had publicly taken away the Republicans' ability to try to blame the Democrats if a shutdown goes down. Americans never look favorably on shutdowns.
Then, this weekend, Trump's immigration hawk Stephen Miller appeared on Face the Nation and re-iterated Trump's threat that the administration would shut down the government if Trump's demand for $5 billion in wall funding was not met.
Today, however, Sarah Sanders told reporters that the government wouldn't necessarily shutdown if Trump's demands weren't met in full. And, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made a public statement confirming that he does not want to burden the American people with an unpopular shutdown and that he was working on compromises.
So, negotiations are back on to avoid a shutdown on Friday. Tick tock.

It defines credulity to suggest that Trump passionately claimed he'd shut down the government if he didn't get the $5 billion because he really wanted the $1.6 billion that he'd already been offered, in my opinion.
I don't believe that Trump's inability to get the wall funding he's demanded from Mexico or from Republican congresspersons or from Democratic congresspersons is really a super successful reverse-psychology negotiating victory for Trump which only the truly Trump-astute recognize. But, I'm not surprised that some people do.
I do believe that the minority of American citizens who say they voted for Trump because they want a great big wall all along the U.S. border -- especially those American citizens who screamed "build that wall!" and "Mexico will pay for it!" at rallies across the country -- were sincere and believed that Trump was making promises to them in good faith.

Credulity: a state of willingness to believe in one or many people or things in the absence of reasonable proof or knowledge; gullibility.
Example: The belief that every bungle/failure of President Trump is actually either (a) a success, (b) what he REALLY wanted all along, or ( c) the fault of somebody else who's victimized him.
Demanding $5 billion for the wall in the December funding package and threatening to shutdown the government if he doesn't get it, then being forced to back down and accept the $1.6 billion he was offered in the first place to avoid a government shutdown .............is a failure to get what he demanded, not an example of an effective negotiating technique.
Promising that Mexico would pay for a great big wall all along the border, then being forced to back down and demand that American tax payers fund the wall...........is a failure to fulfill a promise to the people who voted for him largely because they strongly supported the Mexico-funded wall (while that's a minority of the voting population, it encompasses his core base).
Trump's had some successes and some failures, that's reality. People who always deny the failures (and/or false promises) and believe them to instead be successes or cases of Trump being victimized are gullible.
