This morning I was trying to bring a large delivery from Fed Ex into house and in the process, I injured my back...doctor thinks I have compression fracture. Have CT scan tomorrow and had x-ray earlier today. I am great pain, but do have some pain meds to ease my suffering....so just wanted to warn everyone I might not be my usual, sweet, vivacious self.....I might be a little more bitchy so hope you understand any comments from this day forward (until further notice) may be made under the influence so I will probably not be saying much for a time.

My son brought in box and said it weighed over 100 lbs so it was stupid of me to try to lift it....

I hope you feel better soon, blueberry. And, please post while under the influence; PUIs are some of the best reads. ")

One of the best decisions Trump made during his campaign was hiring Kellyanne Conway, even though she said some very negative things about him when she was trying to get Ted Cruz elected. In my opinion, she was a major contributing factor in President's Trump's victory.

She is very savvy, smart and articulate. I'd have a lot of respect for her if she also wasn't one of the most frequent peddlers of not just spin, but also blatant bullshit and alternative facts (fiction) that I've ever seen. For people who don't follow politics and news closely, I think she also probably comes across as credible. For those of us who do follow pretty closely, it's quite a show to watch/hear her in action.

I completely agree with the savvy, smart & articulate. There's no doubt about it. I also agree that those who aren't familiar with her believe her, I've seen it first hand. I used to admire the way she would spin, it's very clever and bright, now I view her as a liar, that opinion overrides what I used to see as a brilliant bullshitter.

Why are they making you suffer? That's horrible! I'm so sorry, BH, it's saddening thinking of you being in such pain. 72

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 02-03-2017

This is some progress; glad to see it.

Amid mounting public pressure and lawsuits stemming from some of the roll-out problems with Trump's travel/entry ban executive order...earlier this week, DHS granted waivers to vetted refugees who were 'in-transit' when the executive order was signed.

872 people were granted waivers because they were already physically in the process of relocating and faced danger/undue hardship in being denied entry into the United States and sent back when they landed.

That's what happened to the wife and daughters of Fadi Kassar, 40.

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 02-03-2017

Kassar, a Syrian national, was granted asylum in 2015 and came to the U.S., working to get the proper approvals in place for his family to come join him.

Two years later, his family was finally approved and in the process of making the long journey to Connecticut. But, while they were in flight, Trump signed the order banning all Syrian nationals indefinitely. So, his Syrian wife Razan and daughters Hnan, eight, and Lian, five, were not allowed to board their connecting flight in Ukraine, had their visas revoked, and were sent back to Jordan.

With waivers in place, today they arrived in the U.S. and the family was reunited.

Suck it up buttercup. I walked around on a fractured tibia for 3 months and no pain killers. Mind over matter.

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - Duchess - 02-03-2017

Fuck that. I want drugs.

So did I, but doc couldn't see the fracture and refused to give me anything but anti-inflammatory meds until he knew what was going on. After 3 months, I figured if I made it 3 months with no pain killers, no sense in starting now. On the bright side, Here we are in February and I'm upright and walking again.

Broke my ankle about 35 years ago, last few years that has come back to haunt me. X Ray looks like a train wreck

Mine was just above my ankle. I still get a zinger once in a while and had absolutely no fun at all between July and December, but I'm happy to not have to make my way around with a boot or scooter anymore. Doc said it will bother me for the rest of my life, so yeah, probably in the same boat.

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - BigMark - 02-03-2017

It will be your years April 5 when I broke my tibia and fibia, not the most fun I've ever had.

I'm a little surprised that some of you with kids haven't talked about the DeVos nomination. Does that mean y'all find her acceptable and feel she's worthy of the position?

If Betsy gets in:

The question of the moment will be, whether we will continue to have public schools, or a pay-as-you-go system that means you get the education you can afford.

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - SIXFOOTERsez - 02-04-2017

I look it kind of like this: No she does not apparently have any experience with the public education system and that seems to be the thing pissing off most folks. Now IMHO the public school system is a mess and has been for years, And it was brought to us by Professionals that have Decades of Experience. Given that, why not giver a shot at it? She has made millions doing whatever she does, so she is not an idiot, maybe she can fix the thing?
I don't know one way or the other.
But the left put barry in there and he had Zero experience as an administrator, Zero international experience, Never made a single dollar that didn't come from a grant or some other public fund, lived his entire life on public money.
This lady made it in the real world

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 02-04-2017

DeVos inherited her fortune Six, she'd didn't earn it. Then, she married into even more wealth. She's the daughter-in-law of the founder of Amway.

She and her husband have given many millions to Republican politicians in donations. And, she's a philanthropist who donates her time and money to education non-profits.

Improving regulated public education should be the main goal; a more consistently educated society (regardless of income) is good for everyone in the society and for businesses. Independent (but still publicly-funded) charter schools can be a supplement or alternate option, but traditional public schools come first, in my opinion.

I've watched while President Trump has aimed to fill his cabinet and advisory committee with people of the very types of profiles he rallied against during his campaign........ Goldman Sachs honchos, big donor CEOs, media moguls, Trump loyalists with no related experience, (plus his own kids). None have political experience, except Sessions, Hailey, and Rick Perry (who didn't know what the agency he'd been tapped to head by Trump even did and said he wanted to eliminate it 4 years ago). I really hope they are able to do a decent job for our country collectively.

And, I hope DeVos is not confirmed. Education is too important. I don't think she's qualified. I don't think Ben Carson is qualified to head HUD either, but that's a lesser concern for me.

RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 02-04-2017

A federal judge in Washington granted a restraining order on Trump's entry/travel ban Executive Order yesterday. The restraining order is effective nationwide and the State Dept is now working to re-instate all of the visas revoked last week and DHS is back to standard protocol.

This EO was not well thought-out, did not have necessary vetting before implementation, and is tying up courts across the country. Very sloppy.

It should have been obvious (common sense) that exceptions to the nations-of-origin criteria needed to be outlined from the start; greencard holders, in-transit refugees, government-aide visas, etc. In my opinion, exempting those individuals while pausing new visa/refugee applications and existing tourist/visitor/fiancee visas wouldn't have caused nearly as many legal problems, protests, and cases of personal grief......and would have been more in-line with the stated goals of the Executive Order as well.

Anyway, the Trump administration says they'll fight the Washington judge's ruling in court. For now, the judge's order stands.
