RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - QueenBee - 05-09-2017 https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-fires-fbi-director-james-214644292.html WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday, saying it was necessary to restore "public trust and confidence" in the nation's top law enforcement agency following several tumultuous months. "The FBI is one of our nation's most cherished and respected institutions, and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement," Trump said in a statement. The White House said the search for a new FBI director was beginning immediately. The White House made the stunning announcement shortly after the FBI corrected a sentence in Comey's sworn testimony on Capitol Hill last week. Comey told lawmakers that Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, had sent "hundreds and thousands" of emails to her husband's laptop, including some with classified information. On Tuesday, the FBI said in a two-page letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee that only "a small number" of the thousands of emails found on the laptop had been forwarded there while most had simply been backed up from electronic devices. Most of the email chains on the laptop containing classified information were not the result of forwarding, the FBI said. Comey, 56, was nominated by President Barack Obama for the FBI post in 2013 to a 10-year term. Praised for his independence and integrity, Comey has spent three decades in law enforcement and has been no stranger to controversy. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - Duchess - 05-09-2017 Yowza. The Deputy Attorney General has stated the reasoning behind the firing. Guess. Just guess. You'll never fuckin' guess. It was for the handling of the Clinton case, ya know, those pesky emails. I'm fine. Really, I'm fine. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - Donovan - 05-10-2017 What a shitshow. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - Duchess - 05-10-2017 (05-10-2017, 11:53 AM)Donovan Wrote: What a shitshow. In general? Yesterday? Today? Director Comey's firing is a blessing in disguise. I think there's an excellent chance of seeing things start to snowball now. Today that fatfuck is meeting with at least two Russians at the White House. American media were told it was a closed meeting, no press. Thanks to the Russian media who were allowed in, some pix have been released showing them all relaxed & laughing. I'm looking forward to reading about grand juries, indictments & arrests. I'm astounded at the number of people who are willing to risk their reputations in regards to this president and his administration. I know damn well I often look like a mouth breathing dufus when I listen to some of them speak. I am incredulous. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 05-11-2017 Why can't Trump and his administration just tell the truth, or at least get on the same page with their stories before floating them? First, they claimed Comey was fired because of how he handled the Clinton server investigation (though Trump had previously praised him on that very subject) and they expected that Dems would embrace Comey's ouster (they did not). Then, they said Trump fired Comey because of recommendations by the Attorney General (who's not supposed to be involved in the investigation at all) and the Deputy Attorney General, both of whom contended that Comey was doing a bad job and lost all credibility with agents working under him. Then, the official story was that the firing was due to Comey working around Obama's Attorney General Loretta Lynch and breaching hierarchy protocols. Next, according to administration leaks, Comey was fired because Trump was highly offended that Comey said he felt 'almost nauseated' that his choices might have affected the election results. Now, earlier today, President Trump told Lester Holt that he had directly asked Comey if he was himself under investigation a few times, and Comey told him 'no'. But, Trump said, he would have fired Comey regardless because Comey's "a showboat, he's a grandstander, and the FBI has been in turmoil." No wonder so many people suspect that Trump REALLY fired Comey because Comey couldn't be owned and was getting too close. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - Maggot - 05-11-2017 Comey has always been Barney Fife, its pitiful actually. I know why Obama hired him now. RE: THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY - HairOfTheDog - 05-12-2017 You're so defensive and deflecting when it comes to anything Trump-related, Mags. With that kind of blind loyalty and a big ass shovel, you could definitely qualify to fill one of the many diplomatic openings in his administration. |
