Applying for Jobs - Love Child - 07-10-2017

One of my weaknesses is that I am too honest about my shortcomings. I will just freely admit that I do not have good organization skills or that I like to be told what to do and coming up with stuff on my own is sometimes difficult. These are not things I want to say in an interview.

Perhaps I want to change that about myself and I want to be that person blazing forward with new ideas and concepts and not be held back from doing so.

I just got an idea for an entirely new position and it excited me today and I interviewed the person already doing the job who is leaving in a couple of months and I wonder if I have what it takes to do her job. She did it really well.

Fuck, looking for new position outside of my field of experience makes me examine myself and causes me to look at my weaknesses rather than my strengths. There are plenty of jobs I know I am qualified for and can do-but I want to reach in a different direction than the one I am going, I want to explore and stretch and not be comfortable. (I will probably regret saying that outloud, OR EVEN TYPING IT OUTLOUD!)

RE: Applying for Jobs - Clang McFly - 07-10-2017

What are you crazy?

Stick to what you know....stick to the status quo....(Dammit Disney's High School Musical still in my head)

Just kidding! You are my hero. I sometimes wish I was as brave and adventurous as you.

Congrats on the new job...or did you just interview for it? Well either way....Good Luck!

RE: Applying for Jobs - SIXFOOTERsez - 07-10-2017

Good Luck landing the dew gig.
I am already sending out resumes to Texas, making plans to move back by the end of the year
Got an interview tomorrow

RE: Applying for Jobs - Carsman - 07-10-2017

I just

So you interviewed the person already doing the job that your're interested in, who really did it well. She told you what had to be done, and after talking to you, did she feel/tell you that you could be a good fit for the job? That would have helped you to make your decision. Do you feel you could do that job as described to you?

Anyway, the fact that you have the desire and the willingness to venture/ branch out into a new field of employment is empowering for yourself. Be bold, be strong, be confident.
Good Luck.

Thanks Carsman, her last words were, "It would be awesome to have someone competent replace me"

@Six, how is it interviewing or applying for positions that you know you aren't available to begin until a certain time? I am facing that now and curious how companies respond to it.

@Clang, I don't have a new position yet, just looking at possibilites. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

If you stay with what is comfortable you will never grow.

RE: Applying for Jobs - Blindgreed1 - 07-11-2017

There is a hell of a lot to be said for self confidence. Act as though you got this. Everybody has a learning curve when starting a new position. In fact, it's my experience that people who are most qualified for a position, generally have a larger learning curve because they go through the motions of what they know and rely on muscle memory, where as a lesser qualified candidate will learn the task the way I want them to perform it.

You are a very capable woman. You're bright & engaging and the times you've shared different aspects of your life with us I never once saw you shy away from anything due to lack of confidence or fear of the unknown. It's okay that there are things to learn, that's a good thing, having the desire to learn is something that you want to have until the moment of death. You've got this! Make it known that you want the job and try to spend whatever time you can learning from her before she leaves. Good luck! I look forward to celebrating with you when you tell us you got it. 72

RE: Applying for Jobs - Love Child - 08-02-2017

I am in such a flux of what to do next. I didn't not get the position, I just have to commit to another year in the mountains if I want this particular role. I don't think I can commit to another year, but I certainly am not ready to leave yet. I may begin looking harder in the real world or the outside world for a new position.

Sorry to hear that LC, guess it just wasn't in the cards.

Anyway, sometimes the outside real world can offer exciting jobs.
You just have to keep an open mind, and may even have to go out of your comfort zone.
You'll never know, until you try it! GOOD LUCK! 44

RE: Applying for Jobs - SIXFOOTERsez - 08-02-2017

How much longer do you think you've got in you? Six months or more? Less?

RE: Applying for Jobs - Maggot - 08-02-2017

I think I only filled out a couple job apps in high school. I would be lost in the job hunting world today. Is the military like filing out an application?

RE: Applying for Jobs - Duchess - 08-02-2017

I'll probably grow old & die in the job I have now. It's been eons since I've applied for a position.

Me too, but I'm thinking of going for a new job. I'd still be a DMV Motor Vehicle Representative but it would be Ticketing Systems instead of Titles and I'd be home an hour earlier but I'd have to get up an hour earlier.

RE: Applying for Jobs - BigMark - 08-02-2017

It's funny how that works.

If I stayed until May that would make it 3 years up here. I could do another winter, but I don't think I could do another summer. I think it is time to go, I just don't know where yet. Some opportunities are coming up.
I want to find a place to live as soon as I can.
