LC once told me that domestic calls were the ones most cops hated to get.

RIP Officer Steve Arkell.

Trooper intentionally run down and killed

by a crazy fucker during a traffic stop. According to police the guy swerved to hit the trooper whose back was to him. Happened just down the road from here about an hour and a half away. There was a report that his grandfather was a longtime well-loved sheriff here in Rochester.

Quote:Almond Upton, 60, of Melrose, Fla., was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Trooper Christopher G. Skinner, 42, and arraigned in Town of Chenango Court on Thursday night.

"I'm not sure what his mental state was at the time of the accident," State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico said of Upton. "He did make admissions that he saw the trooper and intentionally struck him."

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - Duchess - 05-31-2014

That's sad & awful. I'm quite familiar with this area and have traveled 81 until it ends a zillion times.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - Donovan - 05-31-2014

Not sure what kind of mindset you'd have to have to deliberately swerve into a person. I've considered it as an option if I were ever in a riot type situation where my safety was in question, but that takes a lot of coldness to just run someone down like that.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - HairOfTheDog - 05-31-2014

Sad and maddening incident, Donovan.

42 RIP Trooper Christopher Skinner, 42. 42

Mr. Skinner was from the Sidney barracks in Delaware County and was a 13-year veteran. The Binghamton resident is survived by his fiancee and two children, ages 12 and 15.

Mr. Skinner is the 15th member of the New York State Police to die in the line of duty since 2006, and is the fifth line-of-duty death in the last 10 months, said the Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers.

^ This is Upton, the killer. He was taken into custody an hour after the murder when a police dog tracked him into nearby woods, where he was found naked.

Police said he didn't appear to be drunk or on drugs. He admitted to police that he deliberately swerved his pickup truck from the left passing lane to the right shoulder to hit Trooper Christopher Skinner while in route to visit his mom in Connecticut.

Sounds and looks to me like Upton may be schizophrenic or have some other form of mental illness. If so, doesn't make Skinner's murder any less sad and maddening.

Schizophrenics are still culpable for their actions if they know the action was wrong... which the short article didn't get into, but he definitely seems to have some sort of illness.

My best friend growin up is a state trooper in PA. He just got a commendation for saving a woman's life using cpr last month. That's the type of person that this dude just wantonly ran over.

Ramsey mentioned this tragic and senseless murder of a Georgia police officer in another thread.

It happened early yesterday morning.

RIP Officer Kevin Jordan, left.

Also pictured: the drunken dipshits involved in the incident that killed Officer Jordan -- felony murder suspects Michael D. Bowman and Chantell Mixon; and disorderly conduct suspect Tyler Taylor.

Officer Kevin Jordan had been on the force for four years. He was also a former Marine. Jordan was working an overnight security shift in uniform at a Waffle House restaurant in Griffin when two men and a woman caused a disturbance around 2:30 a.m. Jordan escorted them to the parking lot, when the woman identified as Chantell Mixon began physically fighting with him.

Jordan was attempting to arrest Mixon when one of the men, Michael Bowman, fired at the officer's back. Police believe Jordan was shot five times. At least one bullet penetrated the bulletproof vest Jordan was wearing.

Officer Jordan's brother, Raymond Jordan, had come to the restaurant to visit and fired his weapon, striking Bowman. Raymond Jordan has a valid permit in Georgia. Suspect Bowman is in critical but stable condition.

Officer Jordan leaves behind seven children.

Being a spouse or child of a police officer has got to be so difficult, knowing this day could come at any time.

RIP.

RIP OFFICER JEFFREY WESTERFIELD, INDIANA

[Image: e22ab1a4-473c-4d2f-952e-ad1ad537706f.jpg]

Officer Westerfield was found dead this weekend in his patrol car on his 47th birthday.

Lake County sheriff's police have three young men in custody Sunday night. A written statement from the Gary Police Department refers to one of them as a "person of interest." Law enforcement sources said charges are expected.

A neighbor noticed Westerfield's police vehicle with its light on early Sunday morning. Westerfield was slumped over the wheel. He had been shot to death.,Police said Westerfield had apparently answered a call, but could not release details.

As Westerfield's body was removed from the scene, police surrounded a home just two blocks away. After a six-hour standoff, tactical teams moved in around 3 p.m. Sunday and arrested three men inside the home.

Westerfield, a Desert Storm vet, is survived by four daughters and his fianc, Denise Cather. "They took my world away. They took my best man away. They just took him," said Cather.

"Whoever killed him needs to know, they took away a man that cared about this city. He cared about all the people who lived here," Larry Lauderdale said.

The flag flying at half-staff marks the first time in six years that violence has taken the life of a Gary police officer.

A Mendota Heights, MN police officer was essentially executed yesterday while conducting a routine traffic stop in broad daylight at a busy intersection by a 39 year old 'career' criminal.

8 hours after the murder, police apprehended the suspect after a shootout. The suspect was wounded but is expected to live.

Officer Scott Patrick was a 19 year veteran of the police force and leaves behind his wife and two teenage daughters.

Maybe the world has always been the godawful place I now think it is and I'm only noticing now because I read all of Mock. I never paid attention to this kind of thing before I began reading about it in here. I know there are wonderful people out there but all I see is the disrespect & so little regard for life and other people's property.

Just read an update on this sad case, MS. The killer is alive and kicking.

Snip:
Lying in a St. Paul hospital bed with eight gunshot wounds after a shootout with police, Brian Fitch Sr. allegedly told the officer guarding him: “Just to let you know, I hate cops and I’m guilty.”

That chilling comment came hours after Fitch, a career criminal, allegedly shot and killed Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick after a traffic stop Wednesday in West St. Paul, according to murder charges filed against Fitch on Friday.

Fitch, 39, of Mendota Heights, was charged in Dakota County District Court with two counts of first-degree murder. He had three warrants out for his arrest when he allegedly shot Patrick in the leg, abdomen and head.

In Ramsey County District Court, Fitch was also charged in the standoff with police in St. Paul later Wednesday that ended with his arrest. There, he faces three counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of dangerous-weapon-drive-by shooting, three counts of second-degree assault and one count of possession of a pistol or assault weapon.

--------------------------------------------

Fitch is a violent criminal and had 3 outstanding warrants against him when he murdered Officer Patrick. Shame that he was allowed probation --IMO, he should not have been walking the streets or driving the roads.

Officer Patrick will be buried on Wednesday. 3,000 police officers are expected to attend. I really feel for his wife and daughters.

Thursday was a difficult day for everyone at the Public Safety Building as everyone was reminded the dangers of their jobs. While mourning the loss of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, the Police Chief says they will not be deterred.

Investigators were on the scene all night Wednesday and most of Thursday morning piecing together what led up to Wednesday night's deadly police shooting. Family, friends and colleagues of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson were left to grieve as a stunned community tried to understand what happened.

Locust Club President Michael Mazzeo said, "I hope these next few days can be as painless as possible for a family who has lost a loved one, but that's not really going to be the case."

Officer Pierson was a husband and father of a four-year-old and a three-month-old. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard and he served his community as an eight-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department earning many distinctions and commendations during that time.

"The irony that this officer put his life on the line many times in the past and, in fact, was recognized for taking 10 illegal guns off the street himself over the course of his career I think speaks volumes for what kind of officer he was," said Chief Michael Ciminelli.

On Wednesday night, Pierson and his partner Officer Michael DiPaolo were trying to arrest a parole absconder on Hudson Avenue. Thomas Johnson III, 38, went to prison on an attempted robbery conviction.

While in foot pursuit, police say the suspect fatally shot Pierson. DiPaolo then returned fire, wounding Johnson. A third person, a bystander, was also injured in the shooting.

At a news conference Thursday morning, Mayor Lovely Warren expressed sadness and sympathy, and called on citizens to pause and take a moment to walk in the shoes of police. "I ask that the people of our community understand the great sacrifice that Officer Pierson made last night. He lost his life trying to protect and serve," Warren said.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with black bands covering their shields, Pierson's fellow officers listened as their chief searched for words to describe their loss.

Chief Ciminelli said, "Myself and the two deputy chiefs have been going to every roll call and talking to every officer we can and frankly, I've run out of words. You've hear references to the law enforcement family. This is a true family."

Officers who arrived at the scene last night did carry Pierson to a patrol car and rushed him to a hospital. The chief credited doctors at Rochester General, saying they acted with fury to try to save him, but unable to pull off a miracle.

RIP Cpl. Bryon Dickson, Pennsylvania State Police

Officer Dickson and his partner, Trooper Alex Douglass, were ambushed outside of police barracks late Friday evening. Douglass was injured and underwent surgery; he is now conscious and able to aid in the investigation.

Today the suspect's name and photo was released -- he's still on the loose.

Eric Matthew Frein, 31, of Canadensis, Pennsylvania, is still armed with the .308-caliber rifle that he used to open fire on the barracks late Friday, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said at a news conference.

Noonan called Frein "extremely dangerous." Frein is a survivalist who has expressed a desire to kill law enforcement officers and commit mass murder.

"He has made statements about wanting to kill law enforcement officers and also to commit mass acts of murder," Noonan said. "What his reasons are, we don't know. But he has very strong feelings about law enforcement and seems to be very angry with a lot of things that go on in our society."

Frein was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer and other offenses. About 200 law enforcement officials are combing the rural area of northeastern Pennsylvania marked by dense forest, but "we have no idea where he is," Noonan said.

2 California Deputies Killed in Shooting Spree, 1 Officer Shot/Wounded, 1 Civilian Shot/Wounded
[Image: 635497869553010008-Oliver-Davis-1920.jpg]
RIP Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy Danny Oliver (left) and Placer County Sheriff's Homicide Detective Michael David Davis Jr.

The deadly chain of events began around 10:30 a.m. Friday when Sacramento County sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver, 47, was shot in the forehead with an assault rifle at close range as he checked out a suspicious car in a Motel 6 parking lot, authorities said. Oliver, 47, was the first county deputy killed since 2008. The 15-year veteran left a wife and two daughters.

A man and a woman sped off in the suspicious car, then drove about a mile where the couple tried to carjack a driver and shot him in the head when he refused to give up his keys, authorities said. The carjacked driver, Anthony Holmes, 38, of Sacramento, was listed in serious condition at a hospital Friday night, the Sacramento Bee reported

The attackers then stole another car and finally took a red Ford pickup from Jose Cruz, who was gardening outside a client's house in Sacramento. Cruz told the Bee that a man in a white Ford Mustang convertible told him: "I need a favor." "What's the favor?" Cruz asked. "Your keys," the man said. "Hurry up, because they're chasing me...I don't want to hurt you."

The couple then fled to neighboring Placer County, about 30 miles north of Sacramento, authorities said. In Auburn, the truck briefly pulled over to the side of a road and two Placer County deputies spotted it and approached. The gunman shot them.

Homicide Detective Michael David Davis Jr., 42, died at a hospital - 26 years to the day after his father, for whom he was named, died in the line of duty as a Riverside County deputy sheriff in Southern California. Davis was a 15-year veteran of the department and a father of four.

The wounded deputy, Jeff Davis, is a 17-year veteran who was shot in the arm. He was released after treatment at a hospital.

Dozens of deputies flooded the area but the gunman fled into a neighborhood near a high school and ran into a home. Police finally used tear gas to flush the gunman from the basement of the home, witnesses said.

The long manhunt involved hundreds of officers from multiple agencies backed by search dogs, helicopters and armored vehicles. Residents nearby were told to stay indoors, and schools were locked down during the search.

Marcelo Marquez, 34, was arrested just before 4 p.m. at a home in Auburn after leading officers on a wild six-hour chase. Marquez is from Salt Lake City, Utah. Jennelle Manroy, who authorities said was with Marquez during the crime spree, was also arrested.

The slaying of the deputies was the single deadliest day for California law enforcement since February 2013. In separate incidents that month, former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner killed two law enforcement officers, and two Santa Cruz police detectives were shot and killed.
