RIP Bailiffs Joseph Zangaro (left), 61, and Ronald Kienzle (right), 63

Yesterday, a jail inmate trying to escape from a Michigan courthouse grabbed a gun from an officer, killing the two bailiffs and injuring two more people before he was fatally shot by other officers on Monday.

Larry Darnell Gordon, 45, who was charged with kidnapping, sex assault and obstructing police in April 2016, was being moved from a cell for a courtroom appearance when a fight occurred and he was able to disarm an officer, Sheriff Paul Bailey said.

He said the longtime law enforcement officers were close friends of his who became court officers after retiring from their departments.

'Our hearts are torn apart. ... I have known them for over 30 years. It's a sad day,' Sheriff Paul Bailey said of the bailiffs.

Bailey said it does not appear that Gordon was handcuffed, adding authorities had 'no warning signs' that the suspect would be violent.

It really does.

This morning, at least three Baton Rouge police officers are reportedly dead at the hands of ambush shooters.

One of the suspects is dead and police are sending in a robot to ensure he wasn't packing explosives before they remove his body from the scene.

At present, police believe there are one or two others suspects who are on the loose.

Baton Rouge -- Fatal Sniper Victims

[Image: article-3694835-36603B3A00000578-304_308x435.jpg]

Montrell Jackson (top), Matthew Gerald (right), and Brad Garafola (left) were killed this morning by sniper Gavin Eugene Long from Kansas City - a black former Marine who was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of sergeant.

The sniper belonged to a bunch of anti-police and anti-government conspiracy groups. Via video, he implored people to fight authority with violence rather than protest and words. Fucker.

Officer Jackson, 32, was a 10-year veteran of the force and recently became a father. He also shared a poignant message on social media about his struggles being a black police officer in the wake of the Dallas shootings on July 7th.

Office Gerald, 41, was a married father-of-two, joined the force last year after serving in the Marines and the Army. He graduated to patrol duty only two weeks ago.

Officer Garafola, 45, was working one final extra shift today before going on vacation with his wife, Tonja. Officer Garafola has four children, three daughters aged 21, 15, and 7, and a 12-year-old son.

^ Rest in peace 424242. Three other officers were shot. One is in extremely critical condition and the other two are reportedly stable.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - d505 - 07-18-2016

The shooter clearly had PTSD from going to Iraq. I wish there were more services to help those men who served our country get better returned health care services for PTSD. My friends husband served three tours in Iraq. He was a sniper and came back completely different. So she left him. He tried to get some PTSD services but it was Christmas time and they were closed so he had to wait until the new year. So in the meantime He kidnaped my friend got in a shooting battle with police where the police almost hit their new one year old baby who they didn't see in the back seat and then he shoots himself in the head while my friend was in the front seat 8 months pregnant. This guy Diego was normal before leaving for war.
Anyhow many people who come back from war are fine but many are also fucked. I live in Albuquerque where we have an Air Force and many of the guys of my generation are just completely fucked after being in war it is sad.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - HairOfTheDog - 07-18-2016

I'm sorry for what your friend and her husband experienced, d505. I agree with you about the need for more outreach and immediately accessible services/treatment for veterans of all ages.

It's not clear to me that the Baton Rouge sniper had PTSD. Thus far, I haven't seen anything to indicate that he did. I don't think it's safe to assume that every military veteran who commits murder or turns to crime does so as a result of PTSD. So many people with PTSD are repelled by bloodshed and violence, not attracted to it. And, some people enter the military because they already have what Long referred to as an "alpha" mindset and are attracted to fighting and bloodshed.

Anyway, I'm not saying that he didn't have PTSD, just that it's not clear to me that he did. I do know he served in the Marines for five years as a Data Network Specialist stationed in three different countries and he was never in a combat position. He was reportedly discharged for medical reasons, the nature of which has not yet been revealed.

A Kansas City, Kansas, police captain was shot and killed on Tuesday as he tried to reach a suspect, authorities said.

^ Police Captain Robert Melton had responded to a report of several people in a vehicle shooting at a man, police said in a statement. RIP.

Three or four people in the car ran when police arrived. Melton “attempted to make contact” with a suspect and was shot, the statement said.

Melton was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries, it said. Two people were in custody and one suspect was still at large

Melton worked for the police department’s bureau of operations, a position he held since May 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile. He managed staffing and personnel in that role.

Prior to becoming captain, Melton held the rank of sergeant since 2006. He had been a patrol officer in Kansas City, Kan., from 1999 to 2006 following a nine-year career as a police lieutenant for the Wyandotte County sheriff’s department.

He served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was deployed with a tank squadron to Afghanistan from Sept 2010 to March 2012.

Texas sheriff's deputy shot dead at home; suspects sought

Taken from: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/sheriffs-deputy-shot-killed-round-rock-texas/

ROUND ROCK, Texas - A Texas sheriff's deputy was shot and killed at his home north of Austin before dawn on Monday in what authorities said appeared to be an attempted robbery.

CBS affiliate KEYE-TV reports officials say the incident does not appear to be an ambush.

Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff's office used his police radio around 1:30 a.m. to report people were in his backyard. Investigators arriving moments later discovered Hutchinson's body near a creek behind his backyard in Round Rock, about 15 miles from Austin.

Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton said at a news conference that no arrests have been made but that authorities are seeking multiple suspects. He said there had been reports of robberies in the area and that there was evidence the incident was an attempted robbery of Hutchinson's backyard shed, rather than an ambush targeting him as a law enforcement officer.

Tensions remain high following the fatal shooting earlier this month of five police officers in Dallas and the ambush and killing of three law enforcement officers in Louisiana.

Hamilton said Hutchinson, a 36-year veteran, helped to train him when he first joined the force.

"This is near and dear to me," Hamilton said. "This guy was a big teddy bear. Everyone loved him."

Known as "Hutch," he was reportedly set to retire in September.

The block where the shooting occurred remained ringed with yellow tape and red tape surrounded Hutchison's home, more than six hours after the shooting. Authorities could be seen working in the area around the home.

Police later briefly closed portions of Interstate 35 heading into Austin as a long procession of police cars transported Hutchinson's body to the medical examiner's office.

San Diego, California

Officer DeGuzman, 43, was a sixteen year veteran of the department held in high esteem. He is described as a loving and doting husband and a father of two. RIP.

His partner, Irwin, 32, was also shot on Thursday. Officer Irwin was seriously wounded, but is fortunately expected to fully recover.

The officers, members of an anti-gang unit, were uniformed, wore bulletproof vests and drove a marked car. It's still unclear if they stopped for pedestrians or motorists in the blue-collar neighborhood of southeastern San Diego when each was shot.

San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said the officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shootings. Video of the confrontation is expected to be released at a later date.

Jesse Gomez, 52, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after he was found in a ravine almost immediately after the shooting, suffering from a wound to the chest. He is expected to survive.

Police have given no further information about Gomez or a man they describe as a second "potential suspect," Marcus Cassani, who was arrested Friday on an unrelated warrant after a massive search that included SWAT officers swarming around two San Diego houses.

Police have yet to definitively link Cassani, 41, to Thursday's shooting, Zimmerman said Saturday.

Update:

Turns out that Officer Hutchinson was shot to death with his own service weapon.

I hope this isn't another case of a police officer setting up his suicide to look like a murder and sending police on a wild goose chase.

Authorities are still investigating and say it's possible someone else shot Hutchinson with his service weapon.

^ Conclusion:

Officer Hutchinson did commit suicide and tried to frame it as a murder, as several officers before him have done (presumably to, at least in part, help their families get full pension and charity benefits).

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - HairOfTheDog - 10-06-2016

Today in St. Louis, MO, an officer was killed in the line of duty in what was definitely a homicide.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar called the officer killed early Thursday morning a "tremendous police officer."

[Image: 57f66d8dabd92.image.jpg?crop=1169%2C770%...p%2Cresize]

^ Officer Blake Snyder, 33, of Edwardsville had been with the department at least four years and leaves behind a wife and 2-year-old son. Snyder was shot almost immediately upon arriving at the scene of a domestic disturbance. He died immediately, according to reports.

Another officer on the scene shot the suspect (no details yet).

Snyder married into a law-enforcement family. His father-in-law was a Granite City police officer, and his brother-in-law is a member of St. Louis County's tactical operations unit.

Family, friends and fellow officers surrounded Snyder's widow, Elizabeth, when former St. Louis County Chief Ron Battelle and current director of Backstoppers, Inc. met with her within hours of her husband's death to explain the role the nonprofit will now play in their lives.

Battelle said the organization presented Snyder's widow with a $5,000 check to assist with any initial expenses as is customary, but that the all of the family's debt would be eliminated including any outstanding credit card bills, car payments or mortgages. The agency also will pay for Snyder's son's tuition.

"His fellow officers thought highly of him at the home where we made the visit, and command staff on down spoke highly of him," Battelle said. "He was the prototype county police officer that reflects what's all over this nation.

"They are stand up men and women who are dedicated to a profession that are facing many challenges right now. But they stand tall and perform with honor and courage. That's what Officer Snyder was doing and unfortunately he lost his life during the course of protecting us."

RIP.

Lancaster, CA.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s sergeant was fatally shot Wednesday in Lancaster, CBS Los Angeles reported.

Authorities today said that ^ 53-year-old Steve Owen died at a hospital yesterday afternoon, several hours after he was shot while responding to a report of a burglary in a neighborhood in Lancaster, north of Los Angeles. RIP.

Sheriff’s officials say other deputies fired shots at the suspect after he tried to steal a sheriff’s patrol car and rammed that vehicle into another patrol car while escaping.

Sheriff’s SWAT deputies were involved in a search for the suspect at a nearby Lancaster home.

During the search, the suspect was seen running through a backyard and attempting to scale a fence before he ultimately surrendered.

Minutes later, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries.

A sheriff’s deputy was also injured, but the cause and severity of the deputy’s injuries wasn’t immediately clear.

UPDATE TO POST 452

The suspect in the murder of Officer Blake Snyder is 18-year-old Trenton Forster.

^ Forster was another ticking time bomb who made threats on Twitter about killing cops, wanting to kill everybody, wanting to die...

He shot Officer Snyder when Snyder arrived in response to a domestic disturbance call. Forster was fighting with his girlfriend at the residence.

Forster was charged with murder and armed criminal action in St. Louis yesterday.

Jesus. He's just a kid. How do they get so fucked up so young. The shooter from last week is only 14. I know there's way more than just these two and I always wonder how they get to be so screwed up at such a young age.

Palm Springs, CA.

[Image: 160908-palm-springs-officers-killed.jpg]
RIP Jose Gilbert “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny.

Officer Vega, 63, was a married father of eight. He was a 35-year veteran who was due to retire in December and had chosen to work overtime on Saturday.

Officer Zerebny, 27, leaves behind her husband (a fellow officer) and her 4-month-old daughter. She had been with the department for a year and a half.

It's the first time in over 50 years that Palm Springs has lost officers in the line of duty.

The officers responded to a domestic disturbance call made by the killer's mother on Saturday. During the disturbance, the killer told his father he wanted to kill cops. The father got out of the house and was able to tell a neighbor who called police to warn them. Still, two officers were killed and one was shot but survived.

The piece of shit who killed them is a known gang member who was previously charged with attempted gangland murder and convicted of aggravated assault. He served four years, that's it. He also fought with police during a similar domestic disturbance just a couple of weeks ago.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - HairOfTheDog - 10-10-2016

^ 26-year-old John Felix is the piece of shit who killed the Palm Springs officers. He should have already/still been behind bars on Saturday instead of free to perpetrate more violence, as far as I'm concerned.

Police reportedly initially searched the area around the house for Felix and a 'manhunt' was reported. From what I understand now, Felix was actually still inside the home, heavily armed, and wearing soft body armor. He was shot (non life-threatening wound) and surrendered after a 12-hour stand-off.

Felix is eligible for the death penalty, and prosecutors will make a decision in the next few weeks, District Attorney Mike Hestrin said at a news conference Sunday.

“I will tell you that I consider a brutal murder of a police officer to be a very heinous crime,” Hestrin said. “So I’ll leave it at that.”

The death penalty just means you don't get to play outside, but you get your own cell, it's a joke. Not to besmirch the cop but he was most likely working overtime his last year to pad his retirement.
