ST. LOUIS • Three U.S. marshals were shot while trying to make an arrest in the 3100 block of Osage Street shortly before 7 a.m.

The conditions of the marshals were not clear in the immediate aftermath of the shootings. Two of the marshals were taken to St. Louis University Hospital. Another was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

A suspect was also shot, and police now say they have a standoff or hostage situation at the home.

One of the marshals was talking to police immediately after being hit. A supervisor told police to put the injured in a patrol car and rush them to a hospital, as other police cars blocked intersections along the route to get them there faster.

After one suspect was shot and captured, police weren't sure who else was inside the brick flat, and a SWAT team was called in to clear the upstairs.

Forty minutes into the incident, police were calling it a standoff. Onlookers gathering a block away, just beyond the crime-scene tape, were shooed away as police cordoned off a wider area and closed off streets in the area.

A woman at the scene told NewsChannel 5's Kasey Joyce she is the sister of the suspected shooter and was distraught. She said authorities came to serve him warrants and he said I am not going to jail and am not planning on coming out alive. She said he had served 10 years in prison.

St. Louis (KSDK)-- A US Marshal and the man suspected of shooting him have both died from their wounds.

U.S. Marshals Service Office of Public Affairs spokesperson Jeff Carter released a statement just before 10:00 a.m., "One Deputy US Marshal from the Eastern District of Missouri involved in a shooting this morning at a residence in St. Louis has succumbed to his wounds and passed away at a local hospital. The deputy's name is not being released pending next-of-kin notification."

Two Deputy US Marshals and one St. Louis police officer working with the Marshals service were serving an arrest warrant when they were shot in the 3100 block of Osage around 7:00 a.m., according to Carter.

St. Louis police said the suspect was shot and died from his injuries, but have not released any further information about who he is or what happened.

The scene has been turned over to the FBI and they have taken over the investigation, which is standard in a situation such as this.

During the stand-off, the SWAT team went inside the home with their guns drawn. When they came out of the home, they were more relaxed, but details about what occurred have not been released.

edit to add: A deputy the US Marshal Service previously announced had died from his injuries is hospitalized in critical condition. It apologizes for the incorrect information.

LIMON, Colo. -- A Limon police officer was shot to death Wednesday evening and two officers in a mobile home were freed in a dramatic end to an hours-long standoff with a wanted fugitive.

The standoff ended just after 10:40 p.m. when SWAT officers swarmed in to the mobile home to free the two officers, who were initially thought to be hostages.

It turns out the gunman had barricaded himself in one room of the mobile home, and the officers had just ended up in a separate part of the mobile home and remained there for their own safety during the chaotic first minutes of the standoff, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Limon police said.

Officers Were Serving Warrant To Fugitive

The incident began at 6:10 p.m. at the Wagon Wheel Mobile Home Park on the west end of Limon, according to Trooper Heather Cobler of the Colorado State Patrol.

Limon police officers and Lincoln County deputies went to the mobile home park at the request of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve a fugitive warrant, police said. When the officers approached the door, the wanted man opened fire, killing one of the officers and causing the other two officers to run for cover inside a separate part of the home, police said.

About 20 people from the mobile home park, along Sixth Street on the west end of town, were ordered to leave their homes as the dramatic situation played out.

More than four hours later, a SWAT team broke into the mobile home and freed the two officers. An entire wall of the mobile home was ripped away as the SWAT team swarmed into the structure.

The gunman who was found dead has not been identified. It's not clear when during the night he had killed himself.

Police identified the officer who was killed as Jay Sheridan, 27. He had worked as a police officer in Limon for 6½ years. His wife had recently given birth to their first child, residents told 7NEWS.

"Jay was an outstanding officer and will be greatly missed by his fellow officers and colleagues," said Limon Police Chief Lynn Yowell.

Sheridan was one of only five officers in the Limon Police Department.

"Obviously, this is a time of great emotion for the entire police department. Chief Yowell stated that this officer was an outstanding officer and will be greatly missed by his fellow officers and by the community," Cobler said.

The home where Sheridan lived with his wife and new baby was surrounded by law enforcement officers and officer's wives who were giving his widow emotional support.

At least 10 surrounding law enforcement agencies were called in to help Limon police with the standoff.

Video from Airtracker7 showed a SWAT team deployed in the park and large number of law enforcement vehicles stationed around the trailer park.

Nearby trailers in the park were evacuated.

"I was trying to take my groceries down to my trailer because my friend Matt was also in my trailer waiting for me to get back and an officer stopped me right here by the trash Dumpsters and told be that I couldn't go that way. I said I have my friend in my trailer and I need to get him out, you know? And he's like, 'We'll get him out.' So they wouldn't even let me go down there to do anything," said one resident.

Agencies called to the scene to assist included Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Corrections, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Parker Police Department, Aurora Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

News and rumors traveled quickly through the town by text messages as the shooting and officer trapped situation developed, with officers and deputies reassuring their wives they were OK. Those messages were then relayed on to family and friends. Some of the messages said the officers were being held hostage.

The entire incident will be investigated by the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team, according to police.

Limon is a town of about 2,000 and is 90 miles southeast of Denver, along Interstate 70.

Randleman was shot at least once and also taken to Firelands, before being transported by air ambulance to the University of Toledo Medical Center where he is said to be undergoing treatment.

There is no word on his condition.

Leaders say Dunn is the first officer to be killed in the line of duty in Sandusky. They also say that Randleman has a history with the Sandusky Police.

RE: *IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN - seriouslycurious - 03-20-2011

Charges have now been filed against Randleman in the Officer Dunn case....aggravated murder. Randleman is in stable condition and is still being held in a hospital in Toledo. They still aren't saying why Dunn approached Randleman.
