isn't it a restaurant? i don't find that disrespectful if many people are expected and it's supposed to be a celebration of Lisa's life. not a drunken party, but a gathering of friends to remember her.

What is a memorial? I guess it could be different for everyone. I believe it is a time to sit and reminisce about your loved one. A time to talk and share memories. I think sitting down with a little food and drink is a great idea. Why not? Memorials that are held at gravesites where everyone holds a candle may work for some, but not everyone. It is mostly going to be a lot of young kids that are Lisa and her sister's age, so it seems perfectly appropriate to me.

Kitty1, are you going to the Memorial for Lisa to-night?

The following is a comment by a lovely young mother of 2 apparently very close friends of Johnny and Lisa, the couple went to Florida with Johnny and Lisa. The couple were with Johnny and Lisa the night prior to the murders.

On this day one year ago i was woke up to the most awful call ever! that my two close friends were murdered! i didnt believe it because the nite befor i talked to both of u i was sick to my stomach and still am i miss u johnny and lisa both very much u were great friends i can still see ur smiles and hear your laughs i will cherish all of the memorys we have dearly i will never forget you i love u both! andi hope that the people involved suffer horribly for what they did to you!!! love and miss you :(

5 charged in BG prostitution sting

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Two men and three women were arrested June 30 on prostitution-related charges in Bowling Green.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office and Bowling Green Police carried out a vice operation in the 1600 block of East Wooster Street Thursday night.

Arrested were Michelle Wainwright and Esperanza Ledesma, both of Toledo; Sarah Rupert, Oregon, Rodolfo Benitez, New Bremen, and Vincent Urbin, Avon Lake.

Lt. Jamie Webb at the Wood County Sheriff's Office said Rupert was charged with both promoting prostitution and soliciting sexual activity for hire. The rest were charged with soliciting sexual activity for hire.

i love how perfectly these quotes encapsulate the differences between the two families. one family asks for freedom from drama, and the spokeswoman for the other family immediately inspires some - on the same page, mind you - by making accusations. in one, continuous run-on sentence, peace is conflated with backward insults (in capital letters, no less).

I attended the memorial that Lisa'a family held tonight. Far from a "Drunkfest" it was a chance for everyone to celebrate the life, albeit way too short, of a beautiful, vibrant girl who was taken from us. It saddens me to think that someone would criticize the way family and friends who have been through such a tragedy decide to acknowledge the anniversary of thr terrible event.

I've known the Straub's for my entire adult life. They are good people. They are also very private. They are not prone to press conferences and public displays. They are hurting terribly, as are their family and friends, and they chose to spend tonight with those family and friends to celebrate what Lisa had brought to all of us as a way of moving forward, rather than dwelling on that horrific night.

At some point, it's healthy in the healing process to look forward, rather than backward, and remember the good times rather than the bad. To remember and cherish the good memories as a way of trying to erase the images in your mind of how a young life was taken.

Combined, Jeff and Mary Beth Straub have huge families and an even greater number of friends. Lisa and Lindsay also have many, many friends. A public establishment was a practical way to allow all those who wanted to be with and comfort them tonight to be together to celebrate Lisa'a all-to-short life. It was unfortunate that the media was informed and interrupted what was to be a private gathering, but so be it.

Yes, we had a few drinks. Some toasts in Lisa's honor. We're of legal age. We also shed tears, reminisced and hopefully moved a step closer to peace.

In closing, may I remind anyone following this thread that the Straub family has never done anything but conduct themselves with quiet dignity since this tragedy occurred, and wants only one thing...justice for their beloved daughter.

I have no idea - Mike and his brother are in pictures with Lisa and Lindsay at several parties.

It's been a long, tough road for the families of 20-year-old Lisa Straub and her boyfriend 21-year-old Johnny Clarke. One year ago on January 31st, the couple was found brutally murdered, hands duct taped and bags over their heads. Johnny's mother said she "relives that day every single day."

On the anniversary, dozens of Clarke's family and friends gather to remember him at a candle light vigil. Standing around his grave site, they shared many tears and prayers. "He was the most kind, beautiful, loving, giving person there was," Johnny's mother said. "Most of all I will miss his beautiful smile." Maytee Vasquez-Clarke fights back tears when thinking about her son. "I'm in a blur," she said. This is like a nightmare and I beg God everyday that I would wake up from this."

If there is anyone who understands her struggle, its the Straub family. They too lost someone that night, and also came together to remember.

"Instead of everyone grieving in silence by themselves, we wanted a place to go where everyone could come and remember Lisa, as opposed to grieving her," Straub family friend Mike Levy said.

Pictures of Lisa filled the room at Quimby's at the Park, as those who knew her, talked about the good times. Levy remembers, "she was a very fun person to hang out with, to say the least."

He also said the get together was a time to honor the person Lisa was, instead of remembering how she died. These families know life will never be the same, but say it's the many fond memories that continues to help them get by.

Several months after their deaths investigators made arrests in the case. Cameo Pettaway and Samuel Todd Williams are both charged with two counts each of murder. Another person, Destiny Madrid was also arrested. She's facing felony charges of obstructing justice.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Two families, on two sides of town both gathered for one purpose Tuesday night... to remember.

It was a tough day for members of both families knowing that just a year ago, their beloved John and Lisa were both taken from them far too soon at the ages of 20 and 21.

The Straub family and friends met at Quimby's in Downtown Toledo to remember Lisa over food and drinks, while the Clarke family and friends visited Johnny's grave site.

"It's not a charitable event tonight, we're not fundraising or anything. We're just trying to get together to remember Lisa and Johnny for who they were, and not everything else that happened," said Mike Levy, a friend of Lisa's.

"It's damaging, and it doesn't get any better," explained Johnny's cousin, Jazz Cromer. "But, we just have one thing to look forward to, and that's justice being served, and keeping his memory alive. I know I'll never forget," he said.

Family members and friends say it will be hard to forget the horrific way the two were taken from them.
The couple was found dead with their hands bound and plastic bags over the heads. Three people have been charged in connection with this case.

the female, destiny madrid, is charged with obstruction of justice in this case, but the public has not been apprised of particulars. yet.
she's lied about something to investigators for certain.

Just checked to see if there was anything new on the courts link. couple of things may be worth mentioning.

First, it seems that there are two confidential informants. I'm thinking maybe they came from the tip lie. If so, I hope they get their money.

Next, the individual who wrote the "proffer letter", Travis Jones, accepted a plea deal on the 30th. His 8 page plea deal agreement has been filed as part of the discovery for both Williams and Pettaway. Don't know what to think about that.
