Death by Soda

They killed her over a sip of soda.

A Tennessee couple faces murder charges after Randall Lee Vaughn’s 5-year-old daughter died after being forced to drink two liters of soda and an excessive amount of water as a punishment two years ago, cops said Thursday.

Vaughn, 41, and his wife, Mary Lavonne Vaughn, 58, were arrested after the 25-month investigation found all the liquid caused little Alexa Linboom’s head to swell and herniate because of “acute fluid/water intoxication”.

“They also failed to take care of the child once she was injured,” District Attorney General Berkeley Bell told the newspaper. “Our position is it was a matter of several hours after the child started exhibiting serious symptoms, after the child was screaming out in pain, went into a paralyzed state, and became unconscious.”

Alexa was forced to drink about five 12-ounce servings of grape soda on Jan. 1, 2012, after she took some of her stepmother's drink at the family’s Surgoinsville home without permission.

The parents brought the unresponsive girl to a local hospital, where she was later flown to a children’s hospital. She was pronounced brain dead and died on Jan. 3., 2012.

The parents each face charges of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child neglect and aggravated child abuse. They are being held in lieu of $500,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court today.

“They treated this child so cruelly that it caused the child to die,” Bell told the newspaper. “I don’t know if their intent was to kill the child, but their intent certainly was to harm the child.”

Tennessee Department of Children's Services spokesman Rob Johnson confirmed that Alexa had lived in the home with five other children, some of whom were siblings and some of whom were half-siblings. The other children were removed from the house in Feb. 2013 and remain in DCS custody.

Andrea Walker, whose 7-week-old daughter Aniston went missing in early January, was arrested by Memphis police on Monday.

The body of a baby was found lying face down in a ditch along Singleton Parkway Sunday in Millington, Tenn.

The body was discovered by an unidentified man on a motorcycle who had pulled over to wait for his friends to catch up. He immediately called police.

The identity of the baby has not yet been confirmed. The child had on a onesie – the same type of clothing Aniston was last seen wearing – and appeared to have been on the side of the road for some time, according to Millington investigators.

Walker told police in January that she left Aniston at home with her 3-year-old while she took an older child to school. She returned later to find Aniston gone, Walker told authorities.

Walker is already facing two charges of child abuse stemming from the incident.

Angelique Montano - the mother

Angelique had been dating Fernandez for 6 months. She has a 2-year-old as well.

She claims that she left the 4-month-old baby in Fernandez's care for only about 30 minutes to do laundry.

During that time, Fernandez admits to hitting the baby in the face due to frustration about unemployment and anger at the baby for cyring. Doctors say trauma to the baby's genitalia indicates that the baby was also raped.

Angelique says that she and Fernandez smoked a synthetic marijuana called Spice together in the past and that she thinks maybe Fernandez started smoking it again and that's what triggered him to do something so awful. She says previous reports of bruises on the baby were from the baby's crib.

Fernandez faces charges of child abuse resulting in death and aggravated criminal sexual penetration.

Angelique has not been charged (yet).

I hope this mom is telling the truth, but I don't trust her story about the previous bruises; she brought the POS into her children's life in the first place.

19-month-old Ameriah Roberson

Yeah, she's dead.

Her mom, 23-year-old mom Jocelyn Roberson left Ameriah to be babysat by mom's boyfriend on Sunday. The boyfriend has reportedly known mom since grade school, but is not Ameriah's father.

The story being told by mom is that she went to pick up the baby at 5 p.m. on Sunday and Ameriah wasn't there. Her boyfriend told her that he looked away for a few moments and then the baby was gone. Ameriah was reported missing around 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, a few miles away, Chicago police were processing a death scene; they had been alerted to the body of a dead toddler at about 3:25 p.m. by someone walking in the area.

The body was Ameriah's and the ME has ruled that she died of a subdural hematoma and closed head injuries from an assault. Her death was ruled a homicide.

A police source tells CBS Chicago surveillance video shows a suspect carrying a bag near the site where the girl's body was dumped.

Mom and the boyfriend are being questioned by police.

No charges have been filed (yet).

RIP Ameriah Roberson.

Eraca Dwan Craig, 31, and Christian Jessica Deana, 44, were arrested at the scene of a child welfare check on suspicion of felony child cruelty, false imprisonment and other charges. They are being held on $50,000 bail.

Three starving children — including one who was chained to the floor to prevent her from getting food — were found in the squalid home of a Northern California couple, authorities said.

All three — two boys and a girl — were taken into protective custody, and one was hospitalized, Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller said Friday. The boys are 3 and 5 years old, and the girl is 8, authorities said, and they all exhibited bruises and signs of other physical as well as emotional abuse. The girl and the older boy were adopted children, and the younger boy is the biological son of one of the women, Miller said.

Authorities discovered them in the Salinas, Calif., home on March 14 after two of the young people missed appointments, according to several published reports.

"It was a particularly heinous case," Miller told the Monterey Herald. The children had "hardly eaten for months." The girl, who appeared to have suffered the most extreme abuse, was chained to the floor to prevent her from getting any food, they said.

"It seems that the little girl was the major target of this abuse," Miller continued, adding that she looked "like a concentration camp victim." The girl was in the hospital for about five days, he said, and seemed "traumatized."

There was evidence that she was may have been put in the closet as well as that she was sometimes shackled at the ankle and at other times by a collar around her neck, Miller said.

The women, who are domestic partners, do not appear to have criminal records in Monterey County. They were both aRraigned in Monterey County Court on Tuesday and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 28.

Authorities said the women seemed to be making preparations to leave before they were arrested.

An Oregon woman on trial for the murder of her 4-year-old son believed the boy was gay and that was a motive behind the deadly beatings, a prosecutor said.

Jessica Dutro's son Zachary died in August 2012, days after collapsing at the homeless shelter where his family was living southwest of Portland. Washington County Judge Don Letourneau ruled Wednesday, after jurors were released for the day, that a Facebook message from Dutro to her boyfriend was admissible evidence.

In the message, Dutro told her boyfriend, Brian Canady, that Zachary was "facing the wall" because he had made her angry. Her son was going to be gay, she wrote, using a slur. "He walks and talks like it. Ugh." Canady would have to "work on" Zachary, she wrote.

The message established Dutro's motive for inflicting a pattern of abuse, prosecutor Megan Johnson said. Dutro assaulted three of her children, but Zachary received the harshest treatment, authorities said.

The judge ruled additional web searches done by Dutro were also admissible. On Aug. 16, 2012, the day her son's life support was terminated, Dutro searched terms such as anger management and parenting classes, prosecutors said. She also searched listings for free stuff and sex with strangers, they said.

Earlier this month, Canady pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault for his role in the homicide.

The boy died of blunt-force trauma to his abdomen and a delay in medical treatment, prosecutors said.

Dutro, 25, is charged with murder, murder by abuse and second-degree assault.

^ Laurel Michelle Schlemmer, 40, of McCandless — located just north of Pittsburgh — was ordered held without bail after she was arraigned on charges that included criminal homicide, aggravated assault and child endangerment.

Yesterday, Schlemmer got her 7-year-old son off to the school bus; as she did most other days.

After which, she told her 6-year-old son Daniel and 3-year-old son Luke to take off their pajamas and get into the bathtub.

Next, Schlemmer got into the tub fully-clothed and sat on top of the boys in attempt to drown them.

Then, she called 911 -- paramedics were rushed to the house. 3-year-old Luke died at the local hospital and his older brother Daniel was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC where he remains in critical condition.

Schlemmer told LE that "crazy voices" told her to sit on top of the boys and drown them. But, she also told them that she thought she could be a better mom to the 7-year-old without the younger boys and that she thought the younger ones would be better off in heaven.

Well, she won't be a better mom to her oldest boy from behind bars or locked in a psych facility. That kid is probably gonna have a hard-core case of survivor's guilt.

Hoping Daniel pulls through and can cope with his little brother Luke's death and his mother's unthinkable betrayal -- such a terrifying ordeal for those little boys.

39-year-old former nurse Stephanie Greene of South Carolina was convicted of killing her daughter with a morphine overdose from her breast milk after the 46-day-old child was found dead in 2010.

Greene failed to disclose her morphine prescriptions to her doctors and did not reveal her pregnancy and that she was breastfeeding to her other doctors, officials say.

Greene was found guilty of homicide by child abuse, involuntary manslaughter and unlawful conduct toward a child after a 4-day jury trial.

Greene was sentenced to 20 years behind bars this morning.

It took the jury less than an hour to render a guilty verdict on all charges against Jessica Dutro.

The woman’s boyfriend, 25-year-old Brian Canady, also beat the boy but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of manslaughter and assault and agreed to testify against Dutro. In return, prosecutors dropped four counts of murder by child abuse and a count of second-degree assault.

Dutro had previously told her boyfriend that she was worried that Zachary might be gay because “he walks and talks like it. Ugh.” She then asked Canady to “work on Zachary.”

According to the doctor's testimony, the contents of his intestines had spilled out into his body over the previous two days, causing a lethal infection. The doctor also noted that the bruising on the boy’s body suggested a pattern of prolonged abuse.

The doctors also took the woman’s three-year-old son to be examined and found that the boy had five broken ribs.

The mom from hell will be sentenced on April 18^th.

It doesn't matter how many of these cases I read about, I'm never able to understand the depravity of adults who rape and/or kill children -- their own, or anybody else's.

Demetrio Campbell was trying to get the 4-year-old victim and her older sister to come across the street to him when they were playing outside Sunday, State’s Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

But the girls ignored the 27-year-old man’s alleged request and ran inside the house, locking the doors.

Witnesses saw Campbell go across the street before he went back down to the house and kicked the door in, prosecutors said. Once inside, Campbell ordered one of the two older people in the house to leave the bedroom, prosecutors said.

He then took the 4-year-old girl inside the bedroom and allegedly raped her on the bed. The witness who was ordered to leave the room called police.

When police arrived, they found Campbell smoking a cigarette in a closet, Simonton said.

Judge Edward Bowden ordered Campbell, who is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault and home invasion, held without bond Wednesday at the Markham courthouse, according to court records.

Bowden also ordered Campbell to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Campbell had been in and out of foster homes since he was taken away from his mother when he was 8, Campbell’s grandfather Charles Campbell said Thursday.

And Demetrio Campbell suffers from “mental problems,” the older Campbell said. “His mind is not too good. . . . He just talks crazy,” Charles Campbell said.

He used to lived with his grandfather, but relatives believe Demetrio Campbell was currently staying with a girlfriend in either the Roseland neighborhood or Calumet Park, the south suburb where the attack occurred.

Demetrio Campbell was sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated robbery in 2004. He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2008 for residential burglary.

She met this winner -- ^ Donald Cass, 59 -- at a swingers' party five years ago.

For five years, Cass (a former reserve police officer) told his wife that he was going on hunting trips on the weekends when he was actually shacking up with Morrison and her developmentally disabled relative.

In November 2013, the relative (14-year-old girl) reported being sexually abused to friends and DHHS workers. She told police that Cass used objects to sexually assault her, and said that Morrison assisted Cass by insisting the girl get into bed with the two of them and shower with them.

Police allege that Morrison admitted to seeing Cass assault the victim on three occasions. Morrison said “she did not approve of Donald Cass’ behavior, but she said at some point he had convinced her that this behavior was normal,” according to an affidavit.

Cass pleaded guilty to two counts of gross sexual assault and was sentenced to four years in prison and four years of parole back in February.

Morrison was indicted last Friday and faces three counts of gross sexual assault.

No word on who's caring for the girl; hope she's in a good home.
