HOUSTON – Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs is being moved to a prison hospital for additional treatment after he became sick while fasting.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said Tuesday Jeffs was being taken from East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he was admitted Sunday, to the Texas prison hospital at Galveston. Jeffs last week was assigned to the Powledge Unit near Palestine, about 100 miles southeast of Dallas.
Lyons says the 55-year-old Jeffs remains in critical but stable condition but was conscious as he began his 215-mile transport to the prison medical center about 50 miles southeast of Houston.
She has said Jeffs is expected to fully recover.
