The traditional way to make chili is with no tomatoes or beans and with chunks of meat rather than ground, it can't be beat if made right. But the easy fast way with tomatoes, beans, and ground beef isn't too bad either.

Thanks Sally, So do you care to expand? I know that a lot of traditionalists say that "Chili" is chunks of meat, not ground, and does not contain tomatoes or beans. So what does it contain?

Remember we need to get this thread up to 20 pages. I know people from different parts of the US are rather passionate about their definition of chili.

Baked beans in chili? I have never heard of that...

Remind me to give you a Brunswick Stew recipe someday. It's freaking awesome.

I use chunks of steak in my chili (with kidney beans). Hate ground meat in chili unless it is little meatballs made with good ground sirloin. Most people eat the fucking cheap ground beef, so I don't eat their chili.

I have never heard of "baked beans" in chili, but at least ESAD is trying to contribute to the thread!

I generally make my chili with a mixture of ground sirloin and either steak chunks or ground venison. Today, I opted for the venison, since we had it in the house.

Care to share your recipe?

Edit to add: OMG Cracker you have Wings??

Just good quality meat cut in chunks and browned with onions, chili seasonings and beer and water. As it reduces you add more liquid untill the meat is tender and thicken with masa flour in the end.

If you could pretend to not be a twat that would be cool.

what the fuck are chili seasonings? Do you pour them out of a bag? one of those little packets that says chili seasonings.

Chili is chili nothing else. That's why original chili has no fruit or legumes in it.

They are the spices that season chili, moron. I was trying to keep it short and didn't think it was necessary to spell them out unless I was teaching a cooking class to a group of mentally challenged people.

You don't put white/black pepper in your chili? Or cumin?

Do you make the "bowl of red" stuff, Dick? I've watched those Texas chili contests. Those people are serious.

They need to eat more veggies. They are all plugged up and stuff.

RE: Chili - beans or no beans? - QueenBee - 10-23-2011

So, wouldn't chili with no beans just be spicy meat sauce?

RE: Chili - beans or no beans? - Cracker - 10-23-2011

Chili con carne. Chilis with meat. It was originally range food to eat on the trail because you could carry dried beef and dried chilis to boil up in water. Much easier to pack in to the backcountry than bags of potatoes.

ESAD, I think you need to post exactly how you go about using baked beans to make chili. Remember, you can break it up into several posts, draw it out as much as possible. We need to keep this thread alive and well just for Ima...

RE: Chili - beans or no beans? - Eat Shit And Die - 10-24-2011

I make a chilli with mince like any normal person chilli con carne i presume, and i like to add a can of baked beans to it, its called a preference.

RE: Chili - beans or no beans? - IMaDick - 10-24-2011

Real Chili uses Pork not beef, and it doesn't have beans or fruit in it.
