Gambling - ramseycat - 05-27-2012

Teacher going to the casino for her birthday inspired this topic.

I am not much of a gambler. I love to play the slots though. Nickles or quarters, maybe dollar slots once in a while. I hate to lose money. I would rather spend it on something for the kids or house or shoes. But it's fun to play the slots just to play. We have quire a few casinos in NY. I have only been to the one in Saratoga though.

My aunt and uncle gamble all the time. Whenever my aunt wins big, she sends me some shopping money. She has two daughters and three granddaughters and me so she takes turns sharing the wealth. My uncle is really into gambling and goes even without my aunt. I just can't justify wasting money like that.

Do you like to gamble?

No. The very first time I ever bet a horse race I won big & I've always been so grateful that didn't hook me.

I love it! Blackjack, nom, nom. Fortunately, I don't live near any casinos or I might be flat broke but I'm pretty good about setting a limit with regards to how much I'm willing to lose and walking away if I get there.

Usually I go up but yeah, then I'm hooked and I play until I come back down again. Smiley_emoticons_slash

Yep, we like to hit the casinos frequently. My better half is the bigger of the gambler's between the two of us. She gets comped rooms, free dinners, free show tickets, drinks, etc.
I of course, enjoy the benefits she gets as well. We will be enjoying two comped nights next month. Cheers

When I was in Vegas I enjoyed the shows more than the gambling. If I was retired I could see myself going to Foxwoods more.

Funny... went to Vegas for four days and didn't gamble a single dollar.

I know somebody whose parents re-mortgaged their house to pay off their sons gambling debts... to keep him from getting snapped in half or shot by enforcers. He got into a bookie for tens of thousands of dollars.

I've never been drawn to it thankfully.

I find it kinda boring actually, I don't understand how people get addicted to it. Black jack and poker is ok, but I don't care for the neverending rows of slots. They all have like 30 buttons, I don't even know what to push.

We went to the Hard Rock casino in Tampa and the senior citizens were unloading by the dozens not to mention smoking like chimneys. After seeing all those old people chain smoking I don't even believe smoking causes cancer.

I don't. I'm a terrible card player and slots bore me. Its a wate of money to me.

I bet on Premier league football every week during the season. I have my set limits and I am currently about £300 up in total. Slots bore me as does roulette and blackjack, I don't mind video poker or texas hold em though.

My parents went to Vegas a few times. My Dad would bring a set amount to gamble with. When he would win, he would put what he brought away and only gamgle with the winnings. He would also walk away when he won a decent amount and go do something else like hang at the pool or see a show with my Mom. He always came home with more money then he brought. That is willpower!

I would always rather shop than gamble. I have never been to Vegas but I think I would rather see the shows and people watch than gamble. I only played the slots in the casinos on cruise ships.

I live 20 minutes from a casino, I seldom go there purposely, I might stop if I'm up that way for something else and have a little time to mess around otherwise, I'm satisfied with winning heads I win tales you lose coin tosses.

No, it's a regular non altered Kennedy half dollar.

Love casinos. Roulet is my favourite. Black Jack and Poker is just to relax with a drink and donate your money. At least in my case. Never got into slots. Rather mundane sitting there with a cup of coins and watching those things go round and round over and over again. Horse races was fun in Hong Kong. The whole city goes mad twice a week. Seriously amazing to witness.

Can't wait to get to Macao these days!

I did a convention at Reno one weekend. Couldn't lose at blackjack and they thought I was cheating.I was hitting on 17 and doubling down with 2's and winning almost every hand the wrong way.

5 dealers later they asked me to leave and stop playing.

RE: Gambling - Midwest Spy - 05-28-2012

I had a pretty serious sports betting habit for about 10 years.

NFL, college football, NBA and college hoops.

Had the bookie. The whole 9 yards. My biggest mistake was winning pretty big the first weekend I tried it. I was hooked after that.

The only reason I quit was because I had no way to hide it from my current wife. Good for me!!

So now, I'll do the college basketball bracket, and other little $20 office pool type of things, but nothing else.

Mindless gambling (slots, scratchoffs, pull-tabs, etc) does nothing for me. I like blackjack because I'm still sort of in control.
