CTV News - Vancouver police are searching for answers Wednesday, one day after a human hand and foot were delivered in separate packages to two area schools.

Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Warren Lemcke told reporters Tuesday afternoon the first package containing what appeared to be a human hand was opened by a staff member at False Creek Elementary School shortly after 1 p.m. local time.

Another package containing what appeared to be a human foot was found by staff members at the private St. George's School later Tuesday afternoon.

"There is no indication of identity (of the victim) at this time," Lemcke said at a news conference.

Police have not drawn any immediate links to accused killer Luka Rocco Magnotta, saying their investigation is in its early stages and they have yet to identify the victim or determine the origin of the disturbing packages.

However, he said Vancouver police will "liaise" with Montreal police and any other relevant authorities as the investigation unfolds.

CTV's Vancouver Bureau Chief Sarah Galashan said police have launched a major investigation into the packages but so far they have few answers.

"They've put a lot of resources into this, they're not saying how these packages were delivered, they're not confirming whether it was through Canada Post but of course they're looking to see if there's any link to the case in Montreal," Galashan told CTV's Canada AM on Wednesday.

Trauma counsellors are being brought in Wednesday for students and staff at both schools, Galashan said.

Magnotta stands accused of murdering a Chinese man who was attending university in Montreal, then sending packages containing a hand, and a foot, to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters and to the Liberal Party of Canada.

He was apprehended Monday in Berlin, where he is currently being held pending extradition to Canada.

The B.C. Coroners Service will examine the body parts and they will be sent for DNA testing. Police are also trying to determine where the packages originated, Lemcke said.

"I'd just like to say this must have been a very, very traumatic incident for all involved...in opening these packages," he said, adding that police don't believe any students or staff members were targeted.

Kurt Heinrich, a spokesperson for the Vancouver School Board, told CTV News Channel that students at False Creek Elementary did not see the package. He said staff contacted police as soon as they realized the package was suspicious.

Officials at St. George's all-boys school said students there did not see the package either.

He is now being linked to other crimes

Toronto Sun - MONTREAL - Montreal police and the Los Angeles detectives are examining a possible connection between Luka Magnotta and the murder of a 66-year-old man near the famous Hollywood sign in January.

Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere confirmed Thursday that the LAPD is probing possible links between Magnotta and the murder of Hervey Medellin, a gay former flight attendant.

A woman walking her dog on a hilltop trail near the Hollywood sign on Jan. 17 found Medellin's head.

A police search of the area the following day turned up the victim's hands and feet. Detectives have been unable to find a suspect and the rest of Medellin's body has not been found.

Lafreniere says his officers are working with the LAPD to see if there's a connection with the murder of Magnotta's ex-lover Jun Lin, who was killed and dismembered last month in Magnotta's Montreal apartment.

"We heard about (the Medellin case)," Lafreniere told QMI Agency. "Of course we will take a look on our side and track all of (Magnotta's) movements."

Lafreniere said Magnotta was in Los Angeles at the time of Medellin's murder.

The U.K. Sun newspaper reported Thursday that a Los-Angeles-based pimp claims to have hired Magnotta to work as a prostitute in January.

It also says that weeks after the discovery of Medellin’s body parts, Magnotta advertised his services on Facebook as an L.A.-based masseuse.

Lafreniere said the investigation will move forward once officers are able to get a DNA sample from Magnotta.

Also Jun Lin's family arrived yesterday

CBC - Family members of Jun Lin, the Chinese man allegedly killed and dismembered by Luka Rocco Magnotta, have arrived in Montreal under intense media attention, while the victim's friends rally to support them.

Yan Shi, head of Concordia University's Chinese Student Association, was among the delegation of people that greeted Lin's family at the Trudeau airport.

He described their "heartbreaking" arrival as Lin's mother openly struggled with her grief.

"She was not even able to even walk straight, so we had to carry her," Shi said. "When we tried to understand what she was saying, all we could make out was, 'We come here to take you home.'"

Community fundraising efforts are underway to help alleviate the possible financial burden related to the tragedy.

Chinese students at Concordia have set up a fund — the Lin Jun Rest in Peace Foundation — to help defray the family's expenses while they're here, which is expected to be two or three weeks.

In an interview with CBC Montreal, a close friend of Lin described him as an ambitious, hard-working young man who loved his new life in Canada.

"He was a very nice person, very open-minded. He enjoyed making jokes with us," said Matty, 24, who only wanted his first name used.

"I just want people to know he was good to his friends, and he was a good student. I know his marks at Concordia were around A's."

Lin worked long hours in China to support himself and save enough money to come study in Montreal, where "it's not cheap, it's pretty expensive for Chinese people."

"His life was not easy," but he was happy, Matty said.

Lin's mother, father, sister and uncle have already met with Montreal police and Concordia officials, who offered to hold a school memorial in his memory.

Lin Jun RIP Foundation
Details on how to contribute to the Lin Jun RIP Foundation will be posted on the Chinese Consulate's website once the account is made public.

Community members in Montreal are also remembering Lin by dropping off cards at the Pointe-Saint-Charles corner store where Lin used to work. His boss, Kankan Huang, said he has collected dozens of cards so far.

At a press conference in Montreal, police Cmdr. Ian Lafrenière said authorities will stay in contact with Lin's family to provide assistance.

"This is a horrible ordeal they’ve been put through,” he said Wednesday.

(CNN) -- A Canadian porn actor suspected of killing and dismembering a university student in Montreal left Germany and arrived in Canada on Monday, a police official said.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, was in police custody when he flew back aboard a Canadian military plane.

Magnotta faces first-degree murder and other charges in the May slaying of Jun Lin, a 33-year-old Concordia University student from China. He did not fight extradition from Germany after his arrest there this month.

"Now the alleged killer is in Montreal, and he'll be facing justice," police spokesman Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere told reporters at the Montreal-Mirabel International Airport, where the suspect touched down in the company of half a dozen officers.

Lafreniere said Magnotta is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, but he did not know when or where.

Do you think he'll end up like Dahmer in prison?

Violently violated and then murdered?

depends on whether they keep him i close/protective custody/isolation. and whether another inmate could possibly get to him.

RE: snuff film. GRAPHIC PHOTO - Kenny Powers - 06-21-2012

I saw the video on a few other websites. Not of the actual beheading, but of the victim still being alive, tied down to the bed, then a pause/cut on the film and to resume showing the lifeless body, and the killer stabbing his belly and chest with an ice-pic, and then making deep cuts with a knife to the legs, arms and butt cheeks. Pretty crazy stuff right there. The big "Casablanca" movie poster right above the bed.

You forgot a few things, Kenny.

I don't think I could watch something like that.

RE: snuff film. GRAPHIC PHOTO - JsMom - 06-21-2012

It was very hard to watch but my morbid curiousity got the best of me. I looked away quite a few times and damn near got sick. It was horrible. I just don't get the mindset of people who do things like this. Just killing someone is bad enough, IMO.

In general I'm a very happy person with a sunny disposition & outside of Mock I don't read anything or watch anything that will have the power to bother me. I'm content to keep my head stuck in the sand. 78

I clicked the link...then debated for quite some time.
I couldnt bring myself to watch.
I cant even imagine what could bring someone to this point
in life, to conceive of such a horrific murder.
I hope I am never able to understand it.
Too bad he didnt do this in a Capital Punishment State in the USA.
Canada doesnt have Capital Punishment, do they?

RE: snuff film. GRAPHIC PHOTO - Jezreel - 06-27-2012

So Luka is pleading not guilty and his trial will start in March 2013. That is sooner than I expected but still a long way away for his parents to have to wait for justice.

There was a private memorial held for Jun Lin at the University on Monday, his mum read a statement in Mandarin and below is the translation. I cannot imagine how a parent must feel knowing their son was murdered in such a way and how half he world has seen what the monster to him.

ENTIRE TEXT OF EULOGY

Our beloved son Jun Lin has left us for one whole month. The last thirty days have been the most difficult time in our life. We lived in the agony of grief of losing a loved one and missing him desperately every day.

Jun was a very kind person and filial son. He was well disciplined, sincere, open-minded, and mild-tempered. He enjoyed helping others. I remember when he was a child, once I took him to the grocery market. He saw an old man kneeling down on the street, begging with a broken bowl. He asked me for one dollar and gave it to that man to buy food. Another time he was waiting for the bus at a bus stop. A woman holding a baby in one arm and a piece of luggage in another tried to get onto a bus. Jun didn’t hesitate to help her to carry the luggage onto the bus. He did a lot of good deeds.

To us Jun was also a loving and considerate son. Every time when it was windy or rainy, he would call me, “Mom, it has started raining. Don’t go out.” Even after he came to Canada he still kept calling back home frequently, reminding me to be careful about my health. He sent me a lot of nutritional supplements from Canada. In August of last year I had fractured my hand. He was so concerned that he called his sister over and over again, telling her to take good care of me. He was such a nice and caring person. However, his life was ended unexpectedly by a monster. How can we accept that cruel fact? How can we face the days going forward without our beloved son?

Our family used to gather together during the spring festival every year. During this short period of a dozen days we were accompanied by our children and enjoyed the happiness of family love. We love and are loved by our children. And we lived a happy and satisfied life. All of a sudden, everything ended on that day, May 25. We lost our son forever. He is now in another world beyond our reach. During the month after Jun’s death we have been living in deep sorrow every day. You can’t imagine how sad we are! Our hearts are broken and bleeding. Every day we live like walking dead without a soul.

We hope to bring the monster who murdered our son to justice and we hope he will get the punishment he deserves. We dare not imagine how much suffering Jun underwent, how much horror he felt on the day he was murdered one month ago. He was such a kind and caring person. Anytime we saw his photos tears sprouted from our eyes. We wept and wept until our tears were exhausted, our voices were choked and we could not get a word out. Our lovely son, poor child, where are you now? Where are you? Your mom and dad miss you. We miss you very much, so much…

It has been one month since you left this world. Today your friends, classmates, people from the City of Montreal, Concordia University, the Chinese Consulate, the Chinese Students Association and Chinese communities as well as many other kind people have come here to hold a memorial service for you, mourning your tragic death, showing their sympathy for your misfortune and condemning the criminal.

We believe our son can see what happens here. He can feel your kindness and love. With your love and attention he will feel happy in heaven.

Thank you all.

Signs_173 His poor family. I hope they never have to see that video.

RE: snuff film. GRAPHIC PHOTO - Jezreel - 06-27-2012

No doubt it will be shown at trial and probably the unedited version the police say they have. I hope that his family decide not to attend that day as they will most likely come back for the trial.
Still no news on where jun's is, I wonder if they will ever find it, he should be buried properly :(

RE: snuff film. GRAPHIC PHOTO - koko - 06-28-2012

That was a beautiful statement by Jun's mother. My chest feels so heavy after reading it. The poor family. This is such a despicable crime. Thank god the stupid bastard was caught quickly though.

God. That family :'(
