He may have compromised national security, he had to go.

Imo, this is much like the case of the Secret Service Agents who were ousted and/or resigned.
I don't think too many people gave a shit that they like to play with Colombian hookers. Big deal.
But, they were sloppy and left a window of opportunity for classified national security information to be kiped in so doing.
If the CIA Director simply had an affair, pffft. But, he had an affair with a reporter and I'm bettin' he too did so in a manner that left a window of opportunity for her to see/hear classified intelligence information (if that weren't the case, I think the affair would have been swept under the rug).
His mistress may not be the kind of woman who would ever seize such an opportunity, but the fact that the opportunity was there means (to me) that the CIA Director was no longer suitable to maintain his position. JMO...

In speaking with my Uncle who worked one time directly for the General. I found the following very odd!
Did you know that his branch of the service has the option to activate his "retired" status to "active" and then court marshal him; if he admits to the affair? They can then strip him of his rank, honor, and pension! WTF!!! My Aunt said his wife is beyond proper and had "tea parties" all the time. Just thought I would share.

I did hear that adultery can result in a court martial in the military.

He has been a great servant to the people of the United States, let's hope they find nothing beyond adultery, if they do axe him.
