Both Isauro Aguirre and Pearl Fernandez face the death penalty if convicted of murdering Gabriel.
I can see her pleading guilty to take the death penalty off the table if Aguirre is convicted and sentenced to death.
Anyway, I doubt they'll ever be executed by the state if sentenced to death, but would love to see them confined to death row.................though that's expensive and guarantees an appeals process.
Putting them in general population doesn't ensure that they'll be given a hard time by other prisoners. Sometimes child abusers/killers are outcast and sometimes they just acclimate and fit right in.
Gabriel's death triggered investigations into the county's child welfare system and resulted in criminal charges of child abuse and falsifying public records being filed against two former county social workers and two of their supervisors. Those county workers are in the course of pre-trial hearings now.
