RE: Cowards Who Prey on Animals

Is it wrong that I fantasize about killing them the same way they kill?

This is very sad. I cannot believe how easy it is to go and hunt endangered species. It is all about the money.

At the bottom of this article with Jimmy Fallon there is a list of famous related people who killed game. Included in the list are Trumps children.

Injured and stalked for 40 hours. And his cubs... *tears*

I can't even put in to words what I'd like to see happen to the dentist and everyone involved.

The "great white hunter" should be smeared/covered in animal fat, and set out in the protected preserve, sans weapons.

It seems they have no clue about any lion...........

HARARE (Reuters) - As social media exploded with outrage this week at the killing of Cecil the lion, the untimely passing of the celebrated predator at the hands of an American dentist went largely unnoticed in the animal's native Zimbabwe.

"What lion?" acting information minister Prisca Mupfumira asked in response to a request for comment about Cecil, who was at that moment topping global news bulletins and generating reams of abuse for his killer on websites in the United States and Europe.

Global cecil circus

I don't doubt that some Zimbabweans are unaware or unfazed by the killing of Cecil. There is 80% poverty, illiteracy, and other issues the citizens there are facing in their day to day lives.

But, the conservationists, the police, some of the citizens of Zimbabwe, and a lot of people around the world obviously do care. Not only was Cecil protected, he was part of a research study for years and he reportedly drew tourists (and their desperately needed $$$).

At any rate, I care about what happened to Cecil and hold his killers in contempt. And, l agree with Zimbabwean police that those who broke the law and killed him deserve to be prosecuted.

I don't know if Palmer will be prosecuted or if he'll get off by claiming he didn't know this particular lion was protected (which may be true), but I'm glad he's being forced to answer for his part publicly.

Not only was Cecil protected, they lured him out of the park with bait which apparently is forbidden.

Ignorance is no excuse...I hope he's prosecuted, disgraced and somebody puts duct tape around his tiny dick until it turns black and rots.

I don't mind people hunting for food or to control animal populations, but these assholes who kill for trophy or some farcical medicinal use are ridiculous.

Same with shark fin soup morons. They cut off the damn fin and then drop the shark back in the water. Assholes!

No wonder sharks attack humans from tornadoes.

I read recently that you can pretty easily obtain ivory (elephant tusks) here in Chinatown in San Francisco.

They call them "cow bones" and they can sell for $10-20k.

Fuckers.

California Assembly Bill 96 (AB96) was presented on July 6th; it will end the sell of such ivory. Unfortunately, it was put in "suspension" status, for now. I think it will pass, possibly with some amendments, next time it goes before the state assembly though.

AB96 snip:
Existing law makes it a crime to import into the state for commercial purposes, to possess with intent to sell, or to sell within the state, the dead body, or any part or product thereof, of an elephant.

Existing law exempts the possession with intent to sell, or sale of the dead body, or any part or product thereof, of any elephant before June 1, 1977, or the possession with intent to sell or the sale of any such item on or after June 1, 1977, if the item was imported before January 1, 1977.

This bill would delete this exemption. By changing the definition of a crime, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program.

This bill would make it unlawful to purchase, sell, offer for sale, possess with intent to sell, or import with intent to sell ivory or rhinoceros horn, except as specified, and would make this prohibition enforceable by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The bill would make a violation of this provision or any rule, regulation, or order adopted pursuant to this provision a misdemeanor subject to specified criminal penalties. By creating a new crime, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program. In addition to the specified criminal penalties, the bill would authorize the department to impose a civil an administrative penalty of up to $10,000 for a violation of this provision or any rule, regulation, or order adopted pursuant to this provision.

I hate that shit. I guess SF is a sanctuary city for the illegal ivory trade too. ETA: good to see they are trying to address it in legislation, shame it got tabled. Plus, those vendors in Chinatown ain't going to give a shit, it will just drive the price higher.

Sort of like the tusks... those pictures of rhinos with their horns cut off are disturbing too.

The thing that sucks is you could find an ivory tusk all carved 3-400 yrs ago and may have it taken for years when you go to sell it without documentation. Any yard sale or junk store could have it.

Remember when a city accepts immigrants they do not accept just the individual but they also accept the way of life and the customs of those immigrants also, good or bad. Assimilation sometimes becomes separation neighborhoods that in the future may not prove to be a great place to walk your dog.

It's not an SF-specific or California-specific issue, it's the same nationwide. But, Chinatown in San Francisco is the biggest problem area.

Legislative attempts to completely ban the trade of the ivories at the national level have failed in Congress. So, now states like California, Vermont, Alaska...are pushing to invoke state legislative bans. Only New York and New Jersey have successfully legislated such bans on a state-level thus far.

(Note: there's a photo of a tusk-poach in progress within the linked article; it is disturbing.)

RE: Cowards Who Prey on Animals

I find it amusing that humans bang on about racism and equality but we don't afford the same things to animals, which ironically another thing we like to bang on about...when it suits us.

Why do we make one animal more valuable than another? More than half of us drank the milk of a cow today who had her calf taken away from her and knocked on the head because it's a by-product of the milk trade. A couple of thousand kangaroos will be shot in the head over here this weekend for pet food all around the world blah blah blahdy fucking blah..

But Cecil was famous..

Therefore we should have a social media shitstorm and threaten a family with physical violence, death even over a lion. If we ate lions for food, would the shitstorm be so fierce? Probably not, because if we ate lions, there'd be plenty of them about, like cows (Thanks Karl Pilkington haha)

I dunno, I think that Dentist is an asshole for the way he killed the lion. I don't understand his need to do it in the first place; it's not like it's a fair fight. But I think if I get all pissy and threatening about him doing it, I probably should get upset about the cow farmers too, and the chicken people who squash fifty chickens into a square foot and the pig farmers who do the same. But then there goes my bacon and eggs and glass of milk for breakfast...and I like bacon and eggs

I can't help but feel unless we're vegan, we're all preying on animals a bit.
