RE: ANOTHER SCHOOL/PUBLIC SHOOTING

Don't get me wrong. If people want to pray and ask for prayers, no problem here. If they want to blame gun violence on people who don't worship God (even though many of the mass shooters are Christians), that's their prerogative, no matter how ignorant I find it. And, it's not the brave resource officer's fault that he was unable to stop the shooter despite his best efforts.

It just strikes me as a stark reminder as to how deeply the defense and worship of guns is embedded culturally in some parts of our country, with God as their answer to the problem of gun violence.................. no matter what the reality. It'll be interesting to see if the youth there accept that standard quo or instead demand change.

I think it's going to be the young people who effect change.

I've seen some of the hate directed towards David Hogg & Emma Gonzalez and it's pretty intense. I've seen their pix chopped to include targets in place of their heads, I've seen them on the end of a rope, just a shit ton of godawful chopped pix and a lot of quotes attributed to them that they've never said, many death threats and so many wild accusations. It's nuts!

RE: ANOTHER SCHOOL/PUBLIC SHOOTING

Within minutes of the Santa Fe HS shooter being named, there were fake profiles for him set up on Facebook and other social media. In one, he’d been Photoshopped to be wearing a Hillary Clinton cap and supporting Antifa. It’s confounding how many people buy into such crap because it aligns with their biases. But they really do believe it.

Some far right extremists are already claiming the Santa Fe HS surviving students who were interviewed are scripted crisis actors too. Gullible people who refuse to accept reality.

Anyway, I’m not sure the youth of rural Santa Fe, Texas will respond similarly to the youth of suburban Parkland, Florida. The Texan teens have probably been more indoctrinated to gun culture, I imagine. But, I read the Santa Fe HS students had participated in a walkout after Parkland, so it’s possible they’ll rebel against the status quo too.

I'm not sure what it means either. But, I think it's Biggie's derivative of the "bow chick a bow bow" or "brown chicken brown cow" 1970s' porno background music.

Some updates:

Yesterday the mother of one of the murdered students posted that her daughter, Shana Fisher, had been hit on aggressively by the shooter for 4 months and he wouldn't take no for an answer.

The mother claims her daughter finally stood up to the shooter in class last week, which embarrassed him.

According to the affidavit, the shooter confessed right away and told police that he didn't shoot people he liked because "he wanted to have his story told", but police are reportedly still investigating motive.

So, it's not clear if this is yet another case of a male killing people, in full or part, because he couldn't handle rejection by a female(s).

RE: ANOTHER SCHOOL/PUBLIC SHOOTING

Some of the student witnesses are reporting that the shooter shouted "surprise!" when he blasted into the art room and started shooting.

The survivors/witnesses said that the shooter kept blasting through the closet door with his dad's shotgun, where several students had barricaded themselves. When their cell phones began ringing, he taunted them by saying, "do you think it's for you, do you want to come answer it?"

It's still not confirmed publicly whether the shooter, a student, or a teacher pulled the fire alarm.

Yesterday, the shooter's parents released a public statement stating that they were as shocked and confused as anyone else by these events that occurred.

The statement also read, "we are gratified by the public comments made by other Santa Fe High School students that show Dimitri as we know him: a smart, quiet, sweet boy -- while we remain mostly in the dark about the specifics of yesterday's tragedy, what we have learned from media reports seems incompatible with the boy we love."

All I want to know from his parents is why their son was able to access dad's guns.

Also yesterday, the last of the ten fatal victims was identified by his family as Jared Black.

Jared turned 17 three days before he was murdered. Rest in peace.

If I had my way, Dad would now be facing the same charges as his son.

It would be a way to better ensure that guns are truly secure.

I saw someone say this -

You’re afraid we will take away your guns.

We’re afraid your guns will take away our children.

We haven’t taken any of your guns.

Your guns have taken too many of our children.

Whose fears are unfounded?

RE: ANOTHER SCHOOL/PUBLIC SHOOTING

I feel terrible for the families of the students murdered at Santa Fe High School. But the father of the girl the shooter reportedly harassed before killing her is way off base, in my opinion.

He blames the teachers at the school for not predicting the teen would go do what he did. It's not the teachers' fault, of course. The father made no mention of the teacher who died shielding a female student survivor.

The father of Shana Fisher, who was raised by her grandfather rather than either of her parents, also said that as a Christian he would not wish death on the 'messed-up' boy who killed his daughter, even if death was a legal option.

The shooter is charged with capital murder. But, if he's convicted, he won't get the death penalty because he's under 18. He also won't get life without parole for the same reason. The toughest sentence possible by law is life with the possibility of parole after 40 years.

Did the school have a resource officer or any security?

Yes, he was shot by the shooter if I'm not mistaken.

RE: ANOTHER SCHOOL/PUBLIC SHOOTING

The Santa Fe HS resource officer, 49-year-old John Barnes, recently retired from the Houston PD.

As posted upthread, he was reportedly first to confront the teen shooter and incurred shotgun blasts to the elbow and shoulder.

Barnes was still in critical condition as of this weekend. He nearly bled out and experienced two cardiac arrests. He was resuscitated.

According to the latest reports, his chances of survival have fortunately improved.
