HOLY SHIT!

Did you know -

Women had no legal right to birth control while married until 1972.

Women had no legal right to serve on a federal jury until 1973.

Women had no right to get a credit card in their name while married until 1974.

Women had no right to sue for sexual harassment until 1977.

Women could be fired from their job for being pregnant until 1978.

I've always had rights so unfortunately I've never given any real thought to what came before. Mind blown.

Kiss-my-ass

Did you like me better when I was sick? I was a lot quieter.

I lived through these days and I was ahead of my time...even at age 19, when I was attending CU, a progressive professor assigned the book, The Second Sex..by Simone de beauvoir. This book was written back in the 50's and yet it could apply to today in some ways. ....but point I want to make here is that the Civil Rights Movement will always be near and dear to my heart. MLK opened the door to equal rights for all minorities (and that included women).....Many lost their lives in the fight and it actually makes me physically ill when I see who is coming into the White House....progress.....no, we are going backwards.

In any case, I may have mentioned this before, but there is a series called, "Eye on the Prize, first aired on Public TV, and is an excellent resource on this movement. You can access it on internet if interested....It is an important documentary and in my opinion, should be required viewing in American history classrooms......It has been a long, difficult fight and we absolutely need to move forward, not backwards in this continuing fight for equal rights for all citizens as guaranteed by the Constitution....
