Our area uses the standard APCO 10 codes.

The fire and EMS have gone to mostly "plain English" except for things they want to keep "secret" from the public. (Yeah right)

Like the OOOH AHH squad in scannerland doesn't have copies of the codes ::irk::

Here:

EMS Class
1. Emergent immediate life threatening (light and siren go like hell)
2. Urgent possible life threatening (lights, siren at intersections, moderate speed)
3. Routine transport, non-emergent
4. Psycho
5. Probable dead

Add an X to the code for an unruly or combative patient. And yes....someone has fucked up and called in a class 5X ::lmao::

Fire codes are plain English and mostly cover as follows:

Location, cross street, type of fire (ie structure, vehicle, brush, chimney, barn etc) occupants and entrapment and involvement percentage. Or in the case of accident and miscellaneous calls a description of the event and scene.

I have 3 scanners going in the house but mostly tune them out unless certain unit numbers and phrases get my attention. Guess that comes from 26 years of doing volunteer fire and EMT.

Now that I've hung up my turnout gear I just sit and say"Those poor bastards"

Its been about a full 6 months since I've been able to sit quietly in my back yard, pull out a cigar, pop a Sam Addams and have my guitar and harmonica handy along with a pipe with some nice tops in it, and sit and forget any and all of my troubles for an hour or so.
It really does a person good to relax and be alone and just be. Life's been good to me so far. And sometimes I remember what its all about really. Work, bills, people, attitudes. That really means nothing in the grand scheme of things..........
