Zahra Baker, a murdered child
#21
so did this relative ever report it or do anything?? or just ignore signs of abuse? what does that make her?

Two of Zahra's relatives were interviewed by CBS Early Show anchor Maggie Rodriquez Tuesday morning. Brittany Bentley is married to Zahra's stepmother's nephew, and Brittany's mother, is Kim Drum.

"I think Lisa had something to do with it," said Bentley.

Rodriquez asked, "What makes you think Lisa would harm Zahra?"

"Just from the times I went over there," Bentley said. "The environment she lived in. She was locked in her room and only allowed out to eat. That was it. She was beaten almost every time I was there for just the smallest things. If Lisa ever got mad, she would take it out on Zahra for things the kid didn't deserve. She just had a horrible home life. One time, I remember, she had a black eye. She [Zahra] said it was from the door, but we all knew it was from Lisa. I never saw Adam spank her or punish her--do anything. But he would sit there and watch Lisa do it to his child. He would just sit there and not say, do anything. Her [Elisa Baker] daughter actually reported to DSS and they came. I don't know how much was done."

Rodriquez asked, "Do you believe it was just a random kidnapping?"

Drum replied, "No, I knew it from the moment my father called and told me. This is Lisa."

"When Zahra stayed with us, and she stayed with us a lot, an hour before she would go to bed, when she put her pajamas on, she would take off her leg," Bentley said. "It was, it was just routine for her. She never ever went to bed with her leg on."

Rodriquez asked how Zahra handled her disabilities.

"She was a happy child," Bentley said. "She could walk faster on her leg than we could walk on two legs. She was an amazing child. She was never angry or depressed. She was always happy, loving."

Bentley said the only time Zahra acted up was when it was time for her to leave.

"Only time I ever saw any anger in her is when she would come stay with us on the weekends," Bentley said. "When it was time for her to leave, she would just get mad. ‘I hate you, I hate you.' And I just want to understand why because she didn't want to go home because her home life was miserable."

bloody hell.

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said at a news conference that the girl's stepmother confessed to writing a ransom note found at the house where the girl lived, and she has been charged with felony obstruction of justice in the case. Elisa Baker, who was being held on unrelated charges, has also asked for an attorney.

that poor little girl could be anywhere. the Chief is so frustrated because they don't know how long she has been gone or where to begin looking. somebody has to talk so she can be laid to rest.
and that father has to know something! bastard. i hope both parents are buried under the jail sewage system.

Adkins said police continue to try and form a timeline, to determine when the last time Zahra Baker was seen by anyone outside the household. Neighbors told the Observer on Monday that they had not seen the girl in the six weeks that her parents, Adam and Elisa Baker, had been living in their current house, on 21st Avenue N.W. in Hickory.

The Bakers moved to Hickory from the Caldwell County town of Hudson.

Kayla Rotenberry, who lives on Phillip Road in the Caldwell County town of Hudson, says the Bakers lived next door to her before moving to Hickory. She told the Observer on Tuesday that she saw a man visit Elisa and Zahra Baker at least once.

After the man left, Kayla Rotenberry said she called Elisa Baker and asked, "Who was that?"

"Elisa told me it was someone from DSS," Rotenberry said.

She said the investigator came because DSS had received reports that Zahra had bruises on her body and was being kept in her room most of the time. Rotenberry's fiancee, Bobby Green, told the Observer he saw bruises on the young girl.

"That little girl was something else," Rotenberry said. "All she wanted was a mom, and she got one who was crazy."

oh Jesus no.
blood found in wood chipper and mulch. police working with floodlights tonight.

HICKORY, N.C. -- Police are searching a wooded area Tuesday evening dozens of miles from where the missing 10-year-old Zahra Baker was last seen.

The scene is down a dead end dirt road off of Hartland Road, north of Morganton, where police spent more than seven hours looking for clues around a wood chipper and in mulch piles.

Law enforcement sources tell channel 9 Zahra's father, Adam Baker, worked in the tree trimming business and had access to the equipment on the property.

Deputies say cadaver dogs hit on the equipment and the mulch leading to the intensive search Monday.

Police said that Zahra's father is with police on the scene as they search for his daughter.

did he take the police there? make a deal to save his own ass?

from WBTV. waiting for a photo. i hope to hell she doesn't make bond before she is charged with murder.

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - The stepmother who police call a person of interest in the disappearance of a Hickory girl appeared in court Wednesday morning while search crews continued searching for the girl in a brush pile just north of Morganton.

Elisa Annette Baker, 42, seemed distraught and spoke softly when she appeared in Burke County Court Wednesday morning for an obstruction of justice charge.

She asked for a court-appointed attorney and was given a November 3rd court date. She is being held on a $40,000 bond at the Catawba County jail.

In court Wednesday morning, the judge asked Baker if she understood the charges against her. She replied, "Yes." The judge also asked if she understood that she doesn't have to speak to anyone except her attorney.

The search site is located in an area where a tree trimming company dumps tree limbs and other debris. It is located off Hartland Road near Bristol Creek Avenue.

Officials searched the area late Tuesday night and ended their search on Wednesday around 1 a.m. The pile of debris is about 100 feet by 50 feet.

Attorney: Stepmother Is Scared To Death
WSOC-TV

Elisa Baker’s court appearance was brief on Wednesday, when she appeared before a judge on the charge of obstruction of justice at the Catawba County Justice Center in Newton.

Baker answered “Yes” and “No” to the judge’s questions with two attorneys at her side, but didn't say much else.

Police said she has not cooperated since her step daughter's disappearance on Saturday from the family’s home in Hickory.

Police said Baker was after she admitted to writing the ransom note found outside the home the day Zahra disappeared.

Her attorney, Scott Reilly, told the judge he believes her $40,000 bond is too high. this is my concern, that if murder charge isn't forthcoming, she could make bond.

Channel 9 spoke with Reilly and prosecutors about the case on Wednesday afternoon. "She is scared to death. She's worried if her families out here and she is still emotional. It's scary coming out here and seeing all the court reporters and courtroom of people who are so much against here right now," Reilly said.

"I know this is a very emotional time for law enforcement. The community is upset. We have a high degree of faith that law enforcement is going to solve this case. It’s going to be a high priority for the DA’s office when they do,” said District Attorney, Jay Gaither.

Scott Reilly told Chanel 9 that they could have a bond hearing as early as Monday.

Channel 9 has also learned that the massive search that took place late Tuesday and into Wednesday has been called off for now but detectives are following more than a dozen leads and could return to the area.

from ABC News
This photo of Zahra Baker taken by a neighbor on Aug. 9 shows the child with a bruise under her right eye. Neighbor Brandy Stapleton told ABC News she took the photo with her cell phone to cheer up the little girl and make her smile. Stapleton said Zahra was often bruised, but the girl's mother Elisa Baker would explain away the injuries by saying Zahra was clumsy.

I'm always delighted to read that these type of people are scared. I hope she's scared out of her mind & if what I've read about her is true, I hope she lives in fear the rest of her life. I want her to feel hopeless.

that daughter of hell SHOULD be scared! IF she killed that precious child, or even for abusing her, the other inmates would like to rip her to pieces. she can never be among them. so her life will be lonely, frightened, and maybe she will never know another moment of freedom. yes, she is right to be scared.
when i see someone like her (assuming she is guilty) being cuffed and stuffed, and know in my heart that was the LAST moment of the outside world they will ever experience, it makes me happy. it's religious. i have had that moment MANY times and can tell they really don't get it. yet. but they do in time.
NEVER again to enjoy a steak or sunshine and trees or swimming in a lake or sleeping with a lover. 86

ok here are details from warrant to search which was served sunday.

the fire was an arson, so that's where the probable cause for search came from. bitches set it. to burn WHAT??
i'm assuming they confiscated the gothic bitch's passport. good. so she can't flee if she gets bond. (unlikely).

i wonder if the father will attend local vigil tonight.

According to the search warrant, the items removed from the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota Camry include: Duke Power bill, numerous papers with writings and phone numbers, assorted receipts, (3) passports with paperwork, (2) toothbrushes, hair brush, assorted ink pens, (2) lighters, (2) pillows, sheet, comforter, (3) gas cans, (4) burnt samples from Tahoe and brush pile, pink jacket, plastic bowl with green veg. matter (dope), assorted drug paraphernalia, Chinese take-out menu, 1990 Burgundy Toyota Camry, latent lift, photos, and Chevy Tahoe.

In addition to taking photographs of both vehicles, three swabs of a substance which police said appeared to be blood were also taken from the Chevrolet Tahoe.

Elisa Baker feels she is being railroaded by police. "She says she is not a killer had nothing to do with this what so ever and that she has tried to cooperate with police and that she loves her daughter".

OH BUT SHE WROTE THE RANSOM NOTE...SO IS SHE SAYING HER HUSBAND DID IT??
