I remember. Child of a POW in the Philippines, recovered. That was a nasty war. I'm glad it's over. Most of the men and women are gone now. May they rest in peace.

I grew up not too far from Manzanar. Japanese tourists would freak the fuck out in my hometown when the noon whistle went off everyday. hahahaha

I hope you get a chance to visit Pearl Harbor and Punchbowl while in Oahu.

Mum and one brother are still over there from our recent holiday. They'll be at Pearl, tomorrow.

Before 9/11, I used to take my Mum on a morning "brunch" cruise that would take us into the harbor. We wouldn't be able to visit the memorial while on the cruise.

However, the ship would stop and we'd each drop a lei, mourn the dead and remember the sacrifices of those who served and are serving.

On the 7th, we'd always made it a priority to be at Pearl for the annual ceremony. First time in fourteen years I've missed it.

After 911 - ships are prohibited from entering the harbor.

Another casualty of "war".
