^ I understand why it's frustrating to hear the piece of shit referred to as 'a family friend' MS, even though the family did consider Anderson a friend before they learned better. He worked and played softball with Alayna's dad.
I think the family and the media may want to make it clear that the parents didn't just let some random acquaintance stay overnight with a child in the house. But, you're right, Anderson is a predator who fooled them and turned out to be anything but a friend.
It sounds like a stroke of luck for investigators that Alayna's dad's cell phone happened to be in the truck Anderson stole to abduct Alayna. Anderson's dad reportedly helped too. The latest reporting indicates that when he heard the news (about four hours after the amber alert), he called police and told them that he thought his son was the suspect and that Anderson had asked to use the family cabin about 80 miles north. That's where LE found Anderson, a short distance from the wooded swamp where he dumped Alayna's body.
What Anderson did was heinous. In addition to raping and strangling Alayna, she had blunt force trauma to the head according to the preliminary autopsy report. He was charged in Cass County District Court with multiple counts including murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.
His bail was set at $2 million, or $1 million with conditions. He'll get a chance to plea or go to trial, as is his right. No chance of a death sentence in Minnesota, but his chances of ever walking free again are slim to none and his life will hopefully be a living hell in prison.
