These are the scenes in central London tonight as riot police struggle to control anti-capitalist protesters following the TUC's national demonstration against the cuts.
Violence broke out in iconic London locations after splinter groups of activists broke away from the main demonstration and spread out across the centre of the city.
The Ritz hotel and Fortnum & Mason were among the buildings targeted in the capital as groups of rampaging youths fought running battles with riot police.
Clashes look set to continue into the night, as police use containment tactics to try to bring the mob under control.

Why do other people get to have all the fun?

Are they mostly college students pissed because they are not going to be getting as much tuition assistance? I hate crap like this, usually someone with a vendetta starts breaking things and soon its a riot.

Between 250,000 and 500,000 people peacefully marched against government spending cuts yesterday, a mob of between 100-150 anarchist tossbags tried to hijack it largely unsuccessfully.
As usual the media concentrated on the anarchist tossbags instead of the large peaceful protest, criminal damage and disorder is news, apparently large peaceful protests aren't.

I notice you have shifted your focus from violent crime to total crime, thats wise because violent crime is far higher in the US than it is in the UK.
