Father suspected of abducting children

SWANZEY, N.H. -- Two children in state custody are believed to have been abducted by their father, police said.

The boys, ages 11 and 3, were taken into state custody and were staying with a family in Swanzey since their mother died about three weeks ago, police said. Their father, Joel Wallace, 41, was also staying at the home since his wife's death, but Monday morning, he and the boys were gone, police said.

Investigators said a window was found open, and the blinds were torn down. Several wrapped Christmas presents were also missing, police said.

Police said Wallace is a known substance abuser and has family ties in Connecticut. They said he has also talked about returning to California.

Wallace is 5 feet 6 inches and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes.

Jared Wallace, 11, is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 125 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be wearing jeans and a white button-down shirt.

Ethan Wallace, 3, is 3 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 40 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be wearing tan pants and a blue and green striped shirt.

Police said they believe someone in a black car might have helped in the abduction, but they had no more details.

Police said Joel Wallace, 41, and his sons flew to Los Angeles after he took them from a home where they were living in state custody. Police were waiting for Wallace when the plane landed in Los Angeles. The boys were taken into the custody of youth services.

The boys, ages 11 and 3, were taken into state custody and were staying with a family in Swanzey since their mother died about three weeks ago, police said. Their father was also staying at the home since his wife's death, but Monday morning, he and the boys were gone, police said.

Investigators said a window was found open, and the blinds were torn down. Several wrapped Christmas presents were also missing, police said.

Police said Wallace is a known substance abuser and has family ties in Connecticut and had talked about going to California. Investigators said he and the boys switched planes in Washington, D.C. Swanzey police worked with the FBI and Los Angeles Police Department to take Wallace into custody.

Police said Wallace will be extradited to New Hampshire to face criminal charges.

So what are the criminal charges? The fact he was staying in the same home as his kids says quite a bit.

probably custodial interference, if not outright kidnapping. he did not have custody, aside from staying in the same foster home. relatives? don't know. he's a druggie, was deceased mom a druggie also? the state may have wanted to keep them together but under supervision.
