Museum of Racist Memorabilia - racism & jim crow
#1
much of this may be offensive to some, but it is also a matter of historical significance.
a couple years ago i found a lot of advertising that was certainly racist, but considered acceptable at the time. i'll find some more examples and post them.

Provocative exhibits at one of America's newest museum's include a full-size replica of a lynching tree with many items portraying black men as lazy, violent or inarticulate.

The objects displayed in the U.S. state of Michigan's newest museum are steeped in racism so intense that it makes visitors cringe.

That's the idea behind the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia, which says it has amassed the nation's largest public collection of artifacts spanning the segregation era, from Reconstruction until the civil rights movement, and beyond.

The displays are startling. The n-word is prevalent throughout and black women are shown as kerchief-wearing mammies, sexually charged Jezebels or other stereotypes.

That even makes me uncomfortable.

You know black folks look at that shit then wonder if their white coworkers have lawn jockeys.

I think this memorabilia belongs on public display. It serves to remind us what we came from not so long ago. History is history, whether it makes us uncomfortable or not.

And that lynching valentine...there's not a facepalm in the universe big enough for that.

Is it wrong to think those cartoon black girls had some nice asses?

Yeah, to deny it (or hide it) is akin to hiding the history of the holocaust (maybe not exactly equal but you get my point). It needs to be out there and hopefully it shows how far we've evolved.

Now it's just cracks about fried chicken, watermelon and questioning birth certificates.

Interesting and telling pieces of history. Good that they be preserved and displayed, not only to show how far we've come, but to remind us that we still have progress to make. Sometimes some of these very old stereotypes and depictions (or variations thereof) still find their way into today's culture. I'd visit this museum if ever in Michigan.

Okay, PC people, let's not pretend some people still don't act like porch monkeys. Because some people do and you fucking know it.

Bet some of my family members came to America as indentured servants and I haven't bitched about it since...

No I didn't, and you're not right. You're factually incorrect on about a hundred different levels, and thematically way off base on a bunch more. You won't admit to your heritage, but unless your people came over prior to 1720 or so it's extremely unlikely they were indentured servants. Even if by some odd quirk you CAN trace your lineage back that far from the trailer park you live in now, indentured servitude was a whole different animal than slavery, which almost universally replaced it by 1775 or so. As opposed to slavery which continued legally for a hundred more years and by proxy until sometime in the 1960's. Our lifetimes.

Once again, bullshit. You're a shitty troll and you don't get to win simply by saying you did. Did you want to talk yourself deeper into a hole or were you gonna go back and masturbate to the memorabilia a little more?
