RIP Tom Petty. 59

I loved his music and he really put on a good show.

Petty just finished up a 40-year-anniversary tour last week and talked about touring less so he could spend more time with his granddaughter.

He reportedly went into cardiac arrest last night, was rushed to the hospital, and was then taken off life support when there was no sign of brain activity. Tom Petty was 66.

^ that's a great version.

The whole damn crowd singing the first 2 verses.

Must be great for a musician to experience that.

Gave me goosebumps!

The boss' housekeeper was talking about him this morning. She said she could spend hours listening to nothing but his greatest hits so now I'm going to see if I can find his Greatest Hits CD.

I hope you got a hold of it Duchess. It's a great listen, lots of really good songs.

I've seen Tom Petty live more than any other performer. Twice with Lenny Kravitz, twice with Bob Dylan, and once with just the Heartbreakers. All great shows.

I wish I'd had a chance to see the Traveling Wilburys. How cool it would have been to see and hear Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Tom Petty on the same stage. Now, they're all three dead, damn it.

He burned up his house freebasing, looked like he was on H the last interview.

Why do you think Petty burned up his house free-basing Biggie?

The investigation determined quickly that it was an intentional arson with Tom and his whole family inside; I remember reading how traumatic it was for them.

I'm not saying Petty wasn't ever on heavy drugs; I've seen him obviously high as a kite. I'm just curious why you think he caused that fire.

Some dude told me, so i reported it as fact. Are you saying Richard Gere didn't...

Ah, I should have figured. You and Maggot are putting Mock in the running with Facebook for fake news proliferation.

Anyway, there's no credible indication that Tom Petty burned up his house free-basing way back when. But, even if he had, I'd still be a fan of him as a musician and a performer. Hell, Richard Pryor truly did set his own self on fire free-basing and I thought he was a great stand-up performer (wasn't crazy about his movies though).
