Work or not work?
#1
That Yahoo lady made me think of this - - to work or not to work?

As a woman, when you married and decided to start a family did you plan on working? Not working? Going back to work when the kids started school? Was working a necessity or an option?

Husbands - do you or did you want your wife to work when you had kids? Did you just leave it up to her?

I worked full time when I was pregnant with my first. I took 9 months off after he was born. I slowly went back to work what they called Mother's Hours. I started with a few hours a week and gradually worked up to full time. Same with the second. Not working at all was not an option as we had an expensive house and toys. I was lucky that my mom watched the kids for the first year after they were born so they didn't have to go to daycare when I did return to work.

I am all for a woman working after she has a child..if that is what she wants to do. I read an article this morning, though, that said she plans to continue working during her maternity leave. Not sure if it is on a limitied basis or what.
On that note, I think if a woman is financially able to do so, I think she should stay home for a time after the baby. I think this would strengthen the bond between them. Plus I think it would provide some time for her hormones to get back in shape.
I know there are some stay at home moms who treat staying home full time as some sort of religeous experience and that moms who work are bad moms.
Why is it WE are the bad one if we go back to work, but not the dad? And what about if dad wanted to be a stay at home dad?

Good point QB, what about the Dad's? Do we have any Mr. Mom's?

I know of couples where the wife had a better paying job, and it worked out to be in their best interest for her to return to work and him to stay home full time.

Ive always worked and so has she, we raised three kids together. I worked extra when she was recuperating from the birth and nurturing the kids and then we had daycare and all that stuff worked out pretty decently as time went on. The girls were two years apart so that made caring for them a bit easier. I can't imagine surviving decently on less than 2 incomes.

I stayed home when mine were little and i enjoyed every second. but it did cause some issues/problems...whenever my husband and I would have a tiff he'd bring up,"well IF you financially contributed blah blah". Used to really piss me off but his mom worked when he was growing up so that is what was normal to him...my mom never worked...Yeah I know we should have talked about it before we got married but oh well...a woman should do whatever is best for her own indivual family.

I stayed home for a year, that's the standard time you get on mat leave. It was nice, I could not have imagined going back to work after just a few months, I was still dog tired all the time. I have been back at work just over one year now and am quite ready to take another off..... but quite a few months more to wait.
I liked staying at home, but it is nice to get out of the house by yourself, I wish we could afford for me to work just part time though, I feel like I don't get to have as much fun time now, by the time we get home, dinner, bath etc its bedtime for her.

I hate when people judge like QB said, and how you can be made to feel bad for going back to work, each person has to do what is best and right for their family.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I made the original comments that inspired this thread.

Somehow, women here thought I was being chauvenistic with what I said. I said, after my own personal experience (wife), that I thought the Yahoo gal would suddenly have a change of heart and decide to be a full-time mom.

She had our two kids within 18 mos of each other, and after the second, she knew that she wanted to stay home and be with them.

I understand not everyone is able to do that financially. We made some sacrifices to do so.

I'd be interested to hear from moms, if money were no object, would you choose to work or stay home??

Fuck you.

Start your own thread if you're bored to tears.

Or go perpetuate the Ma, Gear, ESAD and Dono stories.

I have no interest in those stories, I came back here to do what I always came here for, socialise with those I missed contact with.

Are you afraid of this thread cuz you have chosen to not work and stay at home?

Is there some shame in that for you?

I think it's hilarious that you, Duchess and HotD seem to think I'm such a woman-basher, or whatever the hell it is you all think about me.

You go to the 'pussy' card, which we all know makes zero sense, but, if it makes you feel better, I can take it.

We all know I'm a handsome, smart, compassionate man that has his shit together. Somehow, that must bother you.

Agreed.

I hate when SAHM's criticise working mom's. Every family has different needs.
