Scanner: Police Search For Heavily Armed Shooter In Pendleton
#1
PENDLETON, Ind. -- At least one police officer has been shot in Pendleton.

Officials have not confirmed many details, but scanner traffic indicated that one Anderson officer, one Pendleton officer and two civilians were shot Thursday night.

A K9 was also shot and killed, reports indicated.

Todd Harmeson, PIO for Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security, said police were involved in routine law enforcement when multiple shots were fired.

Harmeson confirmed two individuals were taken to hospitals -- one to a hospital in Indianapolis and the second to a hospital in Anderson. He said he was not sure if those transported were law enforcement members or civilians.

Scanner traffic indicated one suspect was in custody but another was at large.

Early reports indicated the at-large shooter was heavily armed with an AK-47 and several handguns.

Scanner traffic indicates the suspect is a white male who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He was wearing black shorts and a gray T-shirt.

Harmeson said multiple SWAT teams are on the scene, actively searching for the suspect.

An Indiana State Police helicopter is also involved in the search.

The incident occurred near the intersection of East and Water streets near State Road 67.

RTV6's Tanya Spencer said a Pendleton woman told her a man came into her garage and, from there, fired shots at officers. The woman told Spencer she saw an officer get shot. The woman described hearing "rapid" gun fire near her house in the 300 block of East Water Street.
