Serious question about job hunting
#1
Why can't ramsey find a job?

Isn't the insurance industry making record profits and expecting to make a bunch more due to Obamacare? My premiums (all of them, all insurances except auto) have doubled over the last year and my deductible was hiked, too.

I do feel a bit badly for her, I would be not happy about it.

When do you start worrying?

When you've dropped a couple of grand in the last couple of weeks on life's hiccups and you start saying things like FML. Apparently..

Change management struggles.

Taking off her blouse and flashing during job interviews is probably holding rams back a bit.

Three to four years and she'll probably be work-ready again.

I think I'm more worried about it than she is.

Didn't she have warning they were moving her position?

Dammit, ramsey, get off your ass and get a job.

And fuck Obama for making benefits extend for 29 years. It takes the urgency out of it. Not a good thing.

All she has to do is say it's making her depressed and voila', disability benefits and accommodations. I think she might have a case...

Disability Listing for Depression
Social Security publishes a list of common, serious illnesses that qualify for disability if they meet the specified criteria. The purpose of the list is to grant disability quickly for severe impairments. Depression is covered in impairment listing 12.04, Affective Disorders. To qualify for either Social Security disability or SSI disability benefits on the basis of depression, you must show you have severe depression by having at least four of the following symptoms:
lack of interest or pleasure in most activities
decreased energy
poor appetite or overeating
insomnia or oversleeping
difficulty concentrating or thinking
lack of physical movement

feelings of worthlessness or guilt
paranoia, delusions, or hallucinations,
or
suicidal thoughts.
In addition, Social Security requires that your symptoms of depression cause you serious difficulty in:
activities of daily living (ADLs)
social functioning
focusing, or
repeated, extended periods of worsening symptoms (episodes of decompensation).
For example, an individual with a diagnosis of depression who doesn't get along well with others, can't concentrate on simple tasks, and has trouble with hygiene
may be able to qualify under the disability listing for depression.

If ramsey takes a few months off to spend time with her sons and get some things done around the house (after years of working without a break and paying into unemployment), I don't blame her.

Still a tough job market in a lot of industries; hope there are opportunities in her field. If not, there's always that ice cream place she kept pushing on Clang.

Well lets see. I don't work in health insurance anymore so Obamacare is not an issue in my job search. I would not be adverse to returning to that marjet though. I am working with a recruiter right now and updating my adjusters licenses to increase marketability. Although my recent unplanned expenditures have dented by budget, I can get by comfortably through the summer.
The area I live in is not a big city limiting the opportunities.

A friend of mine was in an accident last night. No serious injuries but her son did sustain a sprained shoulder. I have been helping her with her claim with her own carrier and the adverse carrier. NYS No Fault laws and liability laws can be tricky. Helping her has planted a seed.....I could start a business helping people navigate the paperwork and claim process in cases where they don't really need an attorney. There is money to be made here folks. Something to think about.....

I AM spending a lot of time with my family. Not working gives me an opportunity to spend a lot of time with my brother I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Getting laid off was kind of a blessing in disguise. This is the first time in my life I have not worked with the exception of maternity leaves.

Ya know I thought of that but my video camara broke and a new I've isn't in the budget. It was the new dryer or a new camera. I don't like nasty assed laundry mats so I went with the new dryer.

I agree, if I had time to catch up on stuff it would probably be between jobs. Usually I use my vacation. A month off sure sounds good but after that I would get itchy. When I got my hip replaced I went nuts after 4 weeks and begged to be allowed to do something. It worked.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

Dealing with auto insurance companies can be slow and frustrating. I could see a role there for an independent consultant or liaison between the consumer and the insurance company in serious or complex cases.

You probably have good knowledge of the liability laws and exposure to attorneys on both sides with whom you could establish referral relationships.

Plus, you could consult/liaise remotely so you wouldn't be limited by your location. Running your own business is a pain in the ass in a lot of ways and often not as profitable as working for someone else. But, more freedom too and probably more profitable if you don't have employees to manage.

Sounds like an interesting possibility.

The toughest part would be client acquisition. You'd need to be top of mind so that almost immediately after a wreck you're thought about.

That will cost big $$$$$ in advertising.

And won't the insurance companies fight that sort of industry forming? It will impact their bottom line...
