This is cool. The handicapped lady I work with was on TV last night. One of the local news channels has a segment called Waste Watch, about how the government wastes our taxpayer dollars. Her issue was when she moved to a new home, the Developmental Disabilities Service Office would not pay to move her automatic door opener and her ceiling track system to the new place. They said that they WOULD pay to install new...at more money. They said to just take down the old equipment and toss it out. Here is link to the video story

A 12-year-old Russian boy was stabbed nearly two dozen times while on holiday on the island of Crete, allegedly by a Dutchman working as an entertainer at the child's hotel, Greek authorities said.

Nikita Onishchenko, who was on holiday with his family, was airlifted to Athens by military plane after being stabbed 20 times on the chest, back and other parts of the body.

He was left in a 'comatose state' in a 'serious' condition and is now expected to undergo urgent surgery.
His distraught mother Ekaterina was at his bedside, having flown with him from Crete to a children's hospital in Athens.
mother of the 12 year-old victim waits outside the hospital of Iraklio, on the island of CreteMeanwhile, the authorities, fearing damage to their lucrative foreign tourist market during the current economic crisis, insisted that Greece is a safe country for tourists who should not be put off by a one-off case.
Nikita, from Moscow, vanished from five-star hotel in the Hersonissos region in northern Crete and his mother raised the alarm at 9pm on Tuesday.
Officers scoured the area for hours before finding the wounded boy at about 2 a.m., lying behind disused piping and building material at the edge of a field used as a parking lot near the hotel.

An unnamed Dutchman - an entertainer at the hotel where the family was staying - was yesterday in police custody after police stated that he had confessed to the stabbing as well as to stealing an iPad and mobile phone from the boy.
A search finally found Nikita at 2am on Wednesday lying 'in a pool of blood' in bushes on the edge of a field near the hotel.
The young victim and his family were staying at the luxury Mitsis Laguna Resort and Spa on the island of Crete

Scene: The cordoned-off area where the 12-year-old Russian boy was found wounded. He is in a serious condition but his injuries are not believed to be life-threateningPolice said the Dutchman had allegedly taken the boy's mobile phone and laptop from the hotel's entertainment area earlier in the evening.

A preliminary investigation indicated the boy later tracked down the man, finding him near the hotel with the stolen items.

Police said the man then led the boy into the parking lot, stabbed him and abandoned him.

Authorities later found the knife believed to have been used in the attack, and recovered the laptop and mobile phone.
Police claimed to have found the attack weapon which had been washed and hidden in a fire hose.

'He is still in critical condition,' said Panos Ephstathiou, head of the medical centre, where the child was initially treated.

'The patient can later face serious problems with the lower limbs. Unfortunately, in such cases, the injuries often lead to paralysis of the legs.'

Russian reports of the case suggested a possible sexual motive in the attack, but there was no confirmation of this by the Greek authorities.

Greece last night acted to play down fears over its safety as a tourist destination.

'I am sincerely sorry for what happened. Greece is a safe country,' said Health Minister Andreas Lykourentzos.

'Greece is a hospitable country and the National Health System is in a position to meet any
challenge, whether it concerns a Greek citizen or a tourist.'
At a hearing before the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, Issa assailed Holder over the actions of Thomas Perez, who works for Holder as head of the Justice Department's civil rights division. Perez is President Barack Obama's nominee for labor secretary and is scheduled for a vote in a Senate committee on Thursday.

Issa said that as part of a review of how Perez handled a fraud case, the Justice Department turned over to him only parts of emails Perez had written. The department gave Issa the "to" and "from" lines from the emails, but not the contents, he said.

Holder said he would look at the request. "I'm sure there must have been a good reason why only the to-and-from parts were provided," he said.

Issa responded, "Yes, you didn't want us to see the details."

The two talked over each other as Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, attempted to referee.

Holder said Issa was mischaracterizing the Justice Department's response in a way that "is too consistent with the way in which you conduct yourself as a member of Congress. It's unacceptable, and it's shameful."

Issa did not respond directly to the attack, instead focusing on whether it was appropriate for Perez to use a personal email account for government business.

......The way to get around government oversight is to create an e-mail account that is not within prying eyes. A no-no for anyone in a government position. Its OK for personal use but not for official business.

The state attorney general has filed suit against a florist in Eastern Washington, claiming her refusal to provide floral arrangements for a gay couple’s wedding amounted to discrimination.

The state attorney general has filed a lawsuit in Benton County Superior Court against a Richland florist who refused to provide flowers for the wedding of longtime gay customers, citing her religious opposition to same-sex marriage.

The state’s suit against Barronelle Stutzman, owner of Arlene’s Flowers and Gifts, came just days after the Attorney General’s Office wrote to ask that Stutzman reconsider her position and agree to comply with the state’s anti-discrimination laws.

“Under the Consumer Protection Act, it is unlawful to discriminate against customers on the basis of sexual orientation,” Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement. “If a business provides a product or service to opposite-sex couples for their weddings, then it must provide same-sex couples the same product or service.”

JD Bristol, attorney for Arlene’s, said his client has many customers and employees who are gay and the claim that she is “discriminating on the basis on sexual orientation is nonsense.”

“This is about gay marriage, it’s not about a person being gay,” Bristol said. “She has a conscientious objection to homosexual marriage, not homosexuality. It violates her conscience.”
http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2...itxml.html

Thoughts? On the one hand, I have know problem with her refusing service (I think of those signs at restaurants that often say "we reserve the right to refuse service to any one, any time". However, one talking head compared it to buying a 6 pack of beer. Suppose a clerk decided his religious beliefs precluded him selling you the beer because you're gay or Muslim or something. As the talking head said, "just sell me the damn beer".
I'm thinking about getting my jammies on, smoke a bowl, listen to some tunes.
