Girl Helps Authorities Catch Home Intruders

I'm glad the kid wasn't hurt -- it's not clear why she was home alone, but she was smart.

Story:
A shotgun-toting, 11-year-old Michigan girl scared away an intruder Friday after he tried to gain entry into her house while she was home alone, MLive.com reported.

"The 12-gauge shotgun is her weapon," Lapeer County Sheriff Detective Sgt. Jason Parks told the paper. "She and her father are into hunting and avid sportsmen. She was familiar with that weapon."

The girl, who was not identified, hid in a bedroom closet with the shotgun during the incident. One of the burglars, while making his way around the house, reportedly entered the bedroom and opened the closet door. He saw the girl with the shotgun trained directly at him. He didn’t ask questions, and took off.

"She was able to defend herself from an intruder and be able to resolve an event even most adults would be taken aback by," Parks told the paper.

Authorities, who believe the break-in is linked to dozens of others in the area, reportedly arrested James Wasson, 53, and Rhonda Steward, 31, (pictured above) shortly after the incident. The two were charged with first-degree home invasion and other charges.

Uber Good Shot

^ The thwarted gunman, Custodio

A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd.

An Uber driver who was in the area pulled out a handgun, and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court records. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding. No other injuries were reported.

Custodio was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the shin, thigh and lower back, authorities said. He was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon charges. He was denied bond during the Sunday court hearing.

The Uber driver, a 47-year-old resident of Little Italy, provided police with a valid concealed-carry permit and a firearm owner's identification card, DA Barry Quinn said. The driver was acting in self-defense and defense of others and will not be charged.

Concealed-Carry Bystander Shoots and Kills Unarmed Would-be Carjacker -- Utah

A 31-year-old man with a concealed weapons permit was in the Macey's parking lot in Orem, 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, when he heard a woman's screams as she was being pulled from her SUV by the suspect Saturday, investigators said.

Police Capt. Ned Jackson said he does not think the shooter would face charges because he only fired his 9 mm pistol after the 27-year-old suspect lunged at him in an effort to grab the gun.

Jackson also cited Utah law, which allows the use of guns for self-defense and to prevent the commission of a forcible felony, including an attempted car theft. The fact the suspect was unarmed makes no difference because he tried to steal the SUV and posed a threat to the man, he added.

"I think you'll have some people say he (shooter) didn't have proper training, and some people will say stealing the car shouldn't be a capital offense," Jackson said. "I think you'll have other people who will say the citizen shouldn't have turned himself into a judge and jury."

"But I think he did the right thing by being involved and helping the woman. If it was someone's mother or sister, would they want this guy to step in and help them?" he added.

Utah is one of the most gun-friendly states in the United States, and it is among more than a dozen states that issue concealed-carry permits to residents of other states. About two-thirds of the nearly 577,000 permits Utah has issued in the last two decades have gone to residents from other states.

The requirements are fairly simple: Anyone 21 or older who passes a criminal background check and takes a firearms course taught by an instructor certified by Utah can get the permit.

The suspect would not have been shot had he complied with the man's requests to get out of the car and wait until police arrived, Jackson said. The woman's life could have been at risk if the suspect drove off with her or ran over her while backing out, he added.

"I don't think this man got out of the car saying 'I'm going to shoot this guy,'" Jackson said. "The suspect really is the one making the decisions driving the whole thing. I think it's admirable he (shooter) heard someone's screams for help and stepped in to help."

The names of the shooter and suspect have not been released. Police plan to release more details, including the suspect's name, on Monday. Plans also call for the eventual release of the shooter's name.

The shooter was cooperative and gave statements to detectives, Jackson said. He had stopped at the store to buy food before going out for target shooting.

He fired one round at the suspect, hitting him in the chest. The suspect later died at a hospital.

^ Arthur Kemberis may be 95 years old and walks with a cane but this WWII veteran had the strength to fight off a would-be robber who tried to steal his wallet.

Arthur says the unexpected confrontation unfolded Saturday morning when he went to pick up his wife’s prescription at Walgreens in Manchester, New Hampshire. Police say that’s when a suspect began following Arthur inside the store.

“I took the money out and he saw me after I took out the amount and I pushed everything back in my wallet,” Kemberis said.

Moments later outside in the parking lot the man approached Arthur and tried to grab his wallet several times but Arthur even at the age of 95 wouldn’t stand for it.

“He saw me coming up to strike him on the shoulders. I hit him three or four times,” Kemberis said.

“He wasn’t very aggressive, but I was,” Kemberis said. Smiley_emoticons_smile

Seconds later a driver passing by saw the struggle got out of his car to help and the suspect ran away. “And I told him what a splendid thing he tried to do because something worse could’ve happened,” Kemberis said.

A photo of the would-be robber ^ was captured by surveillance cam.

Arthur says he hopes the man who tried to rob him will get his life together. “I would say to him stay honest that’s all,” Kemberis said.

You can run, but you can't hide

A Good Samaritan wearing only socks on his feet chased two teenagers for five miles after they allegedly attacked an elderly woman and tried to steal her car.

Cody Hendrix (pic above) said the incident began Thursday when he heard a loud crash outside his Sacramento home. An elderly woman was hurt and two teenagers took off down the street on foot. Hendrix chased after them and would not let them get away from him, for five miles.

Hendrix said thinking about his own grandmother kept him going. "If that happened to her I'd be distraught," he said. "They picked a nice quiet street and it was the wrong street. I'm not a religious man but someone was watching out for her that day."

The chase stretched on for an hour and ended at Del Paso Manor Elementary School where the teens sat down on a bench and surrendered.

"About three minutes later, I see the cop rolling through next to the park, the school, and waved him down," Hendrix said.

The male teen had a warrant out already for his arrest in Placer County. The 16-year-old girl was booked into juvenile hall.

LADSON, S.C. -- Authorities have identified a would-be burglar who was fatally shot by a 13-year-old who was home alone and used his mother's gun.

^ Ira Bennett, 28, of North Charleston was also arrested and charged with first degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The county sheriff's office says the boy told deputies that he heard someone trying to get into the home Tuesday, so he got his mother's gun and went to the back door of the home.

Authorities say the boy told them he fired the gun through the door and the person outside fired back. They say Bennett drove Brown to the hospital, where he died.

Bite Your Tongue

A brave woman left a sex attacker with a bruised and battered face after he pounced as she walked home from work dragging her into bushes.

^ Johnathon Holmes, 35, had followed the young female victim for over a mile before launching his horrendous assault, a court heard. As he climbed on top of her and pushed his tongue into the woman's mouth he said: "You're going to enjoy this"

But the young woman had realised she was being followed in Sheffield city centre and courageously fought off Holmes. She punched him several times in the stomach, bit his tongue and used her keys as a weapon to stab him in the neck.

Holmes fled the scene near Nuffield Gym on Cemetery Road in the early hours of November 1, Sheffield Crown Court heard. He was further injured jumping over railings.

Police were able to track him down in just a few hours, the court heard. But when Holmes was arrested he claimed he had no recollection of the evening because he was drunk. He was found guilty and sentenced to 4 12 years behind bars.

Only the Good Die Young

This kid seems to have been a really good one.

He was 15-year-old Zaevion Dobson. He was a sophomore and a leader of the football team at Fulton High in Knoxville, Tennessee. Zaevion was well liked by his teachers and his peers, by all accounts.

According to police reports, three gang bangers showed up at a football name last night and started shooting randomly at people. Zaevion threw himself in front of three girls to protect them. He got shot and he died, but nobody else was injured.

The same gang members are suspected of violent incidents at two other sites last night. I hope LE finds the fuckers soon.

It hurts to imagine what Zaevion's brother and family must be going through. RIP Zaevion Dobson.

^ Correction: the three men suspected of shooting Zaevion Dobson did so while he was shielding three girls in their neighborhood (not at a football game).

The shootings that killed Zaevion Dobson, 15, began Thursday night, said Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch. The first person shot was Lisa Perry, 46, who was inside her apartment at the time. She is expected to survive.

Rausch said Perry's 23-year-old son, Brandon Perry, and several other men then drove to the neighborhood where Dobson lived and "randomly fired multiple times." The girls shielded by Dobson were not hurt, he said.

Brandon Perry was later found to have been shot after he crashed a car into another apartment. He died from his injuries on Friday morning. Two other men who fled from the crash were arrested, though one was later released after being questioned. Rausch said investigators think the shootings are gang-related.

Woman shoots/stops her assailant -- Kentucky

A man who police said was shot by his victim during a robbery attempt in a parking garage last month is out of the hospital and in jail.

John Ganobick faces charges of robbery, wanton endangerment and assault in connection with the attack that left him hospitalized on Jan. 26. The woman has not been identified, but the video below shows Ganobick following her into the garage elevator before the attack.

The woman said Ganobick made her feel uneasy.

When the elevator reached her floor, she began to run to her car, but Ganobick chased her. As she tried to get into her car, Ganobick allegedly slammed her head into an unknown object, told her to "give me all your fucking money," and showed her a knife, the arrest report said.

The woman told police Ganobick was thrusting his knee toward her torso and trying to push her into the passenger seat of the car.

She pulled out her gun, but it did not fire, she said. Ganobick allegedly punched her in the face and moved the knife toward her head, she said.

The woman fired again, striking Ganobick, who was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries. He has since appeared in court with a tube inserted into his throat.

Good for her.

Customer Quashes Axe-Wielder

[Image: 62ef9bcb-68f0-4c89-a4d4-4e72acbb6f62.jpg]
^ That's 43-year-old Steve Blacktongue. He went into a Seattle 7-11 store at 5:45 a.m. on Sunday morning and swung an axe at a customer.

Then, he went behind the counter and attacked the 58-year-old clerk with the weapon. He never said a word during the attack.

That's when a 60-year-old customer who buys his coffee and scratchers at the store every day pulled his gun and shot Tongue multiple times.

Police say the customer, who has a concealed carry permit, may have saved the clerk's life. The clerk suffered minor injuries.
Blacktongue died at the scene. He had previous arrests for assault and meth.

Convicted pedophile Jared Fogle has gotten a taste of prison life in the form of jailhouse justice.

The disgraced former Subway pitchman suffered a swollen face, scratched neck and bloody nose at the hands of fellow inmate Steven Nigg during a Jan. 29 beatdown at Colorado’s Englewood FCI in Littleton.

Steve Nigg, 60, is an inmate at Colorado's Englewood FCI.
Nigg, 60, who is serving 15 years for a gun conviction, walked away from the prison yard fracas with just a cut-up hand - but punished with solitary confinement.

Fogle is “lucky to be alive” after the beatdown was meant to send a message to the portly pedophile, the attacker’s family told The Daily News on Wednesday.

“My uncle was in a position to kill him. No one was there,” Nigg’s nephew Jimmy Nigg Jr. said after speaking to his uncle and reading the incident report.

“He got him down, then walked away. (My uncle’s) not a violent guy. He doesn’t have a violent history,” Nigg Jr. added.

“He’s sending a message (to pedophiles) is what he’s doing. A guy walks in with all this money and celebrity and instead of flying under the radar, he’s going into the yard, walking around with big guys, saying no one can mess with me, flashing his money around.”

Most sex offenders in prison — where they are a particularly unliked group — try to keep a low profile.

But Fogle’s access to cash, which he uses to pay fellow inmates for protection, allows him to feel invincible, Nigg Jr. added

The disgruntled Nigg was also fed up with the uptick of sex offenders at the prison.

“He said these kids (who were victimized) got dads and uncles and they’d love to do what I just did,’” said Nigg’s brother, Nigg Sr.

Nigg Sr. said his brother also told him: “I’m doing it for the families. I couldn’t help it.”

Nigg is slated to be released in 2024, while Fogle will have to wait an additional five years.

Fogle, who is said to have gained 30 pounds over the past three months, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty last year to child pornography charges and engaging in sex with minors.

Woman Unloads on Home Invaders -- Gwinnet, Georgia

This looks like something straight out of a movie.

It went down at 4 a.m. last Friday.

The woman unloaded her gun on the three armed robbery suspects, hitting and killing one of them. She then calmly calls 911 as her housemate takes the gun out of her hands.

The other two suspects escaped and are being sought by police.

Police say the woman was completely within her rights to defend herself and her property.
