Al Qaeda Threat Closes Embassies
#1
This is a severe move by the State Department, but a good one.

Threats made against Ambassador Stevens in Libya weren't taken seriously enough in the weeks prior to the assassination of him and his colleagues.

IMO.

(CNN) -- [Breaking news update at 4:32 p.m. Sunday]

The U.S. State Department said Sunday that it has extended embassy and consulate closures in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa, Tripoli, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali, and Port Louis. The posts are instructed to close for normal operations Monday through Saturday, the State Department said.

"This is not an indication of a new threat stream," the State Department said, "merely an indication of our commitment to exercise caution and take appropriate steps to protect our employees including local employees and visitors to our facilities."

(CNN) -- An intercepted message among senior al Qaeda operatives in the last several days raised alarm bells that led to the closing of embassies and consulates Sunday across the Middle East and North Africa, CNN has learned.

CNN has agreed to a request from an Obama administration official not to publish or broadcast additional details because of the sensitivity of the information.

Several U.S. officials also emphasized they have been watching growing threats emerging from Yemen for weeks.

Those threats, combined with the coming end of the month of Ramadan, plus the concern over several major prison breaks in the region, all contributed to the U.S. decision to shut down diplomatic installations.

The shuttering of 22 U.S. embassies and consulates for the day Sunday amid fears of an al Qaeda attack is an unprecedented move.

"We're doing what is necessary to protect our people," Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN's State of the Union on Sunday.

The closures stretch across a swath of North Africa and the Middle East, from Mauritania to Oman. Bangladesh and Afghanistan, both majority Muslim nations, also are affected.

The shutdowns could extend beyond Sunday, a senior State Department official said. A U.S. global travel alert is also in place.

I agree. I thought of Mo & Jelly when I first heard about this and they appear to be taking it seriously. Mo never makes a mountain out of a mole hill, if anything he downplays stuff.

I want to know why they announce it to the whole fucking world 3 or 4 days before they shut them down.

That doesn't make sense to me.

I don't like that either & they do it quite a bit in regards to security. I don't think we need to know everything.

Why?

C'mon . . . now they can claim: "Because of the thoroughness and secrecy of our NSA and their intrusive surveillance, we were able to thwart a terrorist event! We are only looking out for your interests. . . NEVER circumventing Constitutional protections."

Go on . . . prove there wasn't a threat (as long as you don't drive a Benz)! hah

This morning once again the Drones were busy across this country. I see it simply as a precaution and not a prevention. Before the other side can do shit, let's bomb the place, but get out of it first and have some cold Warsteiner's at Ramstein airbase while it's going on, or for the English, let's go to the Irish Pub in Dubai.

Well, maybe they shoot an RPG into the place formerly known as the Sheraton, would make sense logistic wise, but so far, once again, fuck all.

We just came back from shopping in town and are preparing now Fajitas and drinks for an evening with friends, while I'm listening to Orjan Nilsen and his Filthy Fandango.

Could somebody please ask that filthy and disgusting English friend of mine what the fuck he's talking about? Most probably he snorted some lines with the ashes of his Dad and it's clearly doing his misshapen head in.

Now, where's the fucken Whiskey?? Gimme a drone baby!!

I was thinking about you and yours this morning, Mo. I guess that answers the question about whether or not you might have evacuated.

Is that Jade? Holy shit! She's growing at the speed of light.

Those doors in the background are kickass.

I'm glad to read all is well, Mo & I admire your attitude. Even with weapons I'm sure I wouldn't be so calm & collected as all of you appear to be.

Yes, if you manage to come over our tremendously extended wall, you will face our rather solid fortress of a house, with doors out of solid, bullet proof metal.

If you manage to brake thru all of that, you will face my .... bitches! The most scary moment if you're into shit like that. They will FUCK ... YOU ... UP!

We are all calm and collected because nobody knows what all that massive hooha is all about as fuck all is happening and it's pretty much calm and collected outside. It's Eid after all. The local Christmas sort off.

So .... Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way ..... oh what fun to see them run .... running from my AK, yay .... jingle bells, jingle bells .....

Embassies reopen

Most US embassies that were shut after a wave of global terror threats from al-Qa'ida in the Arabian Peninsula reopened on Sunday, but Washington warned that its Yemen outpost would remain closed due to "ongoing concerns" in the region.

The State Department reopened 18 out of 19 diplomatic missions that were closed due to security threats following an increased use of drones to attack suspected members of the terror group in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. US officials now consider AQAP (al-Qa'ida Arabian Peninsula) to be the single most dangerous terror threat to the West.

The first US drone strike on Yemen occurred in 2002, after which there was a nine-year gap. In the past year, though, there have been 20 attacks on Yemeni targets, 15 of which have occurred in the past six months.

The latest caused the deaths of at least seven suspected Saudi militants this week, which analysts said indicated Saudis were crossing the border into Yemen to carry funds or "seek terrorist training".

Mo, glad things are well.

You've surrounded yourself with some very durable looking women.

I think your best move is to 'hunker down' with them on a daily basis.
