Three freed from imprisonment in London ‘lived entire life in servitude’
#1
In today's day and age, you've just got to say wow. Just fucking wow. It's going to be similarly interesting to watch the details unfold in this one as it was with the Ohio women.

How the fuck can not one, but two people do this to three other people for such a long period of time without one turning on the other?

A man and woman in their 60s have been arrested after police freed three ‘highly traumatised’ women thought to have spent the last three decades imprisoned in a south London house.

The arrested pair, both 67, were detained at their house following an investigation into slavery and domestic servitude after a call to police from the Freedom Charity.

It is thought one of the three women held captive contacted the charity, which supports women forced to marry against their will and victims of honour-based violence, after seeing a TV documentary about forced marriages in the summer.

The women, a 69-year-old Malaysian woman, a 57-year-old Irish woman, and a 30-year-old British woman, have been taken to ‘a place of safety’ after their rescue this morning.

‘We started in-depth to talks to them when they could, it had to be pre-arranged. They gave us set times when they were able to speak to us,’ Aneeta Prem, founder of the Freedom Charity, told Sky News.

‘It was planned that they would be able to walk out of the property. The police were on standby.’

‘We applaud the actions of Freedom Charity and are working in partnership to support these victims who appear to have been held for over 30 years,’ said Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland of the Metropolitan Police’s human trafficking unit.

‘We have launched an extensive investigation to establish the facts surrounding these very serious allegations.

‘A television documentary on forced marriages relating to the work of Freedom Charity was the catalyst that prompted one of the victims to call for help and led to their rescue.’

Although there is no evidence of sexual abuse connected to the case, it is thought the youngest woman has been in ‘servitude’ for her entire life.

She and the others, none of whom are related, had limited freedom and virtually no contact with the outside world for the last 30 years.

It is understood the 67-year-olds arrested were the ‘heads of the family’ and that the three freed women were ‘absolutely terrified of them’.

‘I don’t believe the neighbours knew anything about it at all,’ Ms Preem added.

‘It was just an ordinary house in an ordinary street. They were very restricted on everything they could do. We absolutely thrilled this has happened.’

Scotland Yard said while they had investigated cases of imprisonment before, this was the first time they had come across people held for ‘such a considerable length of time’.

For me too.

Particularly curious to learn how the three females, unconnected and of different backgrounds/ages, were entrapped in the first place.

Were they abducted? Were they lured? Were they part of some cult or commune that went psycho? Were they traded/sold/given-away by asshole family members?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

Anyway, I'm glad they've been freed; hopefully, they'll be able to adjust and function quickly in their new-found freedom.

I'm just glad to see that the UK can still surpass the US in fuckupedness.

10 years?! Piffle! Try 30 years!

Apparently one of the women spent her entire 30 year life in captivity.

I've always wanted slaves but I don't think I'd go so far as to snatch them off the street & imprison them.

They apparently weren't sexually abused but I wonder if the 30 year old is the daughter of one of the two older captives.

They are said to be so traumatised they are struggling to even talk to specially trained officers.

I'd love to browse that big department store there. Harrods. Have you ever been there? Did I even say it correctly?

I've been in a few times and had a look around.

Its the kind of place where if you need to ask what the price of something is you probably can't afford it.

I went in there with my wife back in 1995. I'm sure there was some kind of dress code to get in there. My wife was seconded by one of her lame friends to bring back a Harrod's shopping bag for her. The cheapest thing she could find to buy at the time was the Harrod's Christmas shortbread for the bargain price of £9.50..

A week or so later we went to Bainbridges in Newcastle and she bought a coat for £200.00. At the time I was gobsmacked, but the old biddie behind the counter said to me "Sir, at Bainbridges we believe in the tradition of buying something that we will require for life, once, and it lasting for that life. I'm sure you will agree at your age, that for two hundred pounds, this is a bargain"

I gave her the two hundred quid and smiled. My oldest daughter still wears that coat in the winter and it still looks like the day my wife picked it out.

Addit: and Duchess, Macys in New York eats it for breakfast. That place is just a lesson in shopping. Two and a half times the floor space of Harrods. I think you could live in Macys (if they didn't have 24 hr security) and nobody would know.

Of all the criminals I've researched - including sadistic torturers, murderers and cannibals - Fritzl disturbed me more than most. And, he didn't even technically murder anyone. One seriously creepy motherfucker.

If Oprah went browsing inside Harrods (sans full make-up and styling), the place would probably be crawling with racists!

If she rang up before hand they would open the shop at night just for her to wander around without coming into contact with any peons. Just like Michael Jackson used to do on numerous occasions.

It was a cult

Looks like two of the alleged slaves joined The Workers’ Institute of Marxism Leninism Mao Zedong Thought all those years ago and were willing members of the community (for at least some period of time).

The youngest of the alleged slaves is, however, believed to be the daughter of another cult member who mysteriously died from a fall out of the bathroom window of the cult's compound. That woman's family was told by the cult that the woman (Sian) had gone traveling in India.

This story grabbed my interest, and then sorta disappeared from the news outlets. From what I've been able to find, it's not what is was initially reported to be.

So far, I don't really see any crimes committed here. Three gullible women following a left-leaning wacky wannabe communist couple.

They were 3 young educated women - one had a daughter (father unknown) and died when the girl was 14. The girl never attended school (I don't know if that's considered a misdemeanor crime or not in London). The adult women don't appear to have been forced to do anything, from the looks of it now.

No charges were brought against anyone when Sian Davies died after a fall from the bathroom window; seems a bit of a mystery, but no evidence of homicide. And, there doesn't seem to be any evidence presented of enslavement or sexual abuse or anything of that nature perpetrated against the other two women who chose to live with the couple for all those years.

Looks like maybe the police and the media misled the public (or may have been misled by Josephine and/or the charity) with the first reports of this story?

For now, the Balakrishnans are free on bail.
