If one gets a second chance, and fails after only 2 months, how in the hell does he get a 3^rd chance? For that matter, how does he even get a 2^nd chance in this case?

I don't know how that happens, Kid but this isn't the first time I've seen something like this regarding rapists. I recently saw a judge give one 30 days. Go figure.

^ Christopher Hubbart shouldn't have been paroled the first time, IMO.

But, light and concurrent sentences, and easy parole, for rape forty years ago wasn't uncommon (and, as Duchess mentioned, some judges today are still too soft on statutory and non-stranger rape.)

If he'd gotten consecutive 16 year sentences for each of his 40 rape victims, he'd never have seen the light of day.

Anyway, on this one, I don't blame the judge solely. He's following the law. Hubbart served his time. Then, he was kicked into psychiatric incarceration because prison officials didn't want him on the streets.

It's the psychiatrists who are contending that he's ready for release and want him set free. Well, kinda free.

Shiny new ankle bracelet, security guards, transportation -- sounds like rock-star treatment -- paid for by the taxpayers. The people of Palmdale are just thrilled about his upcoming arrival in their community!

Hubbart's only 63. I hope when the attention on him starts to wane that he doesn't rape somebody else - assuming, once his security ends, he's not taken out by one of the many outraged citizens of the "remote California desert community" he'll be calling home.

Well, the statutory rape thing can really walk a fine line. I think judges should have a bit of leeway in cases where an 18 year old is caught with a 16-17 year old. I've seen the cases where the poor 18 year old gets the book thrown at him, put in jail, and is labeled a sex offender by judges that follow the letter of the law. That shit aint right.

I agree - that ain't the shit to which I was referring.

Teacher/student statutory was on my mind -- lots of those hitting the news lately. Most of the time, the teacher is at least 10 years older and, of course, in a position of influence over the minor.

Sometimes the teacher gets the book thrown at him/her, and other times just a slap on the wrist. Very inconsistent sentencing across states, judges, juries...

Anyway, Hubbart is the lowest of the low. Violently raping 40 unsuspecting strangers -- he should be caged for life, IMO. I've spent a little time in Palmdale. I don't foresee him being treated cordially there, ever. Good.

Yeah, I dont quite get why he was even eligible for parole in the first place. Maybe things were a bit more liberal in the 70's courts...I dunno.
