The Crying Game / TRANSGENDER DISCUSSION
Hooters food is pretty mediocre and their wings suck. So if you're in the mood for something really good to eat the girls won't make up for their crap food.

Agreed. I only went there to get my 10 free birthday wings. The wings at Bombers and The Rusty Nail are so much better.

I didn't mind that as much as being weirded out by the waitress sitting down at your table making small talk with you while your food is cooking.

That's called looking for a big tip! The more she's friendly, and flirts, and shows, usually gets her a bigger tip. Smiley_emoticons_fies

No server should be sitting down and chatting up the customers.

I don't like when the servers are chatty, good looking or not. It's fine to be friendly, but not so much that it becomes obnoxious.

Maybe it's a guy thing, it might be okay for a place like Hooters but I think it's unprofessional. I don't want someone I don't know acting familiar with me. I do the inviting to sit down at my table.

I always liked Hooters 3 mile island wings, pretty good with a nice cold beer. Looking at a pretty girl ain't bad either, but the only reason I ever went there was the wings. Haven't been in a very long time, lots of places have wings these days but most don't do them very well.
I never minded one of the girls sitting with me for a few and talking, never figured they would load up and come home with me so it was no big deal.
I tipped same as always, based on service.

Our Hooters burned down a few years back. I might have even posted about it in here.

They never did rebuild.

Chelsea Manning, formerly Bradley Manning, has filed suit against Chuck Hagel and the US Department of Defense. Manning is serving a 35-year sentence for espionage at Fort Leavenworth, an Army prison in eastern Kansas, for leaking 750,000 pages of classified docs to Wikileaks.

Manning was diagnosed in 2010 with gender dysphoria. The day after his sentencing, Bradley Manning announced that he had been planning to live as a woman and wanted to move forward with that plan. A judge later granted the change of name from Bradley Edward to Chelsea Elizabeth.

"She brings this action to compel defendants [Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and the federal government] to treat her serious medical needs consistent with their obligation under the Constitution," said the suit.

"I requested that the military provide me with a treatment plan consistent with the recognized professional standards of care for trans [gender] health. They quickly evaluated me and informed me that they came up with a proposed treatment plan. However, I have not yet seen their treatment plan, and in over eight months, I have not received any response as to whether the plan will be approved or disapproved, or whether it follows the guidelines of qualified health professionals," Manning said. She said that lack of treatment continues to this day.

If the requests are denied, said Manning's lawyers, she "will suffer continued pain, depression and anxiety and is at an extremely high risk of self-castration and suicidality."

The Obama administration is expected to give a written response to the lawsuit in coming weeks.

Do you think that the government should grant her request to wear make-up, grow her hair, dress female? Are they obligated to provide her hormone treatment since she has a medical diagnosis, same as they'd be obligated to provide a diabetic with insulin?

I feel suspicious. Hadn't that person been living as a man up until he was found guilty & imprisoned?

As far as I know, Chelsea Manning lived only as male Bradley Manning up until his incarceration. But, he had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria years before and again last September. So, I have a feeling Chelsea Manning is going to win this case and be allowed to present herself as female and get the hormone treatment she is requesting. She is being represented by ACLU attorneys.

Snip:
Manning was first diagnosed as having gender dysphoria – formerly known as gender identity disorder – in May 2010, just days before she was arrested at the Forward Operating Base Hammer outside Baghdad where she was stationed as a US army intelligence analyst. She is now serving a 35-year sentence in military custody for crimes related to the massive WikiLeaks dump of state secrets.

Last September she was again diagnosed with gender dysphoria – in her case, the innate sense of being female even though her sex at birth was male – by Dr Ellen Galloway, chief of the mental health division at the disciplinary barracks. Yet despite making numerous requests for treatment, none has been forthcoming.

In July, the Associated Press reported that Hagel had given the green light to “rudimentary” treatment, but since then the only concession the military has made is to allow her to wear female underwear and sports bras. Meanwhile, she has not been allowed to express her female gender outwardly by growing her hair longer or through other forms of grooming customary for female prisoners.

She has also been denied the other pillars of gender dysphoria treatment, the lawsuit states, including specialist psychotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery to change her primary and/or secondary sex characteristics.

The moment I read that ^^^^^^ I kinda knew it would fly. How could it not. However, I draw the line at the taxpayer funding the surgery.

The world has changed a lot in the last 25 years.

I can't imagine, back then, figuring that a soldier who was convicted for betraying his country would win a lawsuit demanding that the government/military provide him with expensive specialized treatment to help him become more outwardly female in prison, based on medical diagnoses at that.

I'm not saying that's good or bad, just kinda amazing how relatively rapidly society changes in the modern environment.
