What is that white outside the windows?

Awesome to read that about your dog. I've thought about it more than a few times. Smiley_emoticons_smile

Are timber panelled cabinets still an in thing over there? Over here, it smacks of the 70s and people are ripping them out left right and centre. All the rage now gloss polyurethane doors/cabinets and polished concrete benchtops

Like this..

Depends where you are. There's kind of a push for high gloss stone tops and chrome with black or white, but the other extreme is going full rustic with the old farmhouse look expensively reproduced lol. I've seen it both ways.

I don't like chrome & glass or a lot of straight lines. It makes me feel tight and uncomfortable. I have exposed beams and stone, I'm more comfortable with natural products and colors and many of my windows don't even have curtains/drapes on them, I like to let the outdoors in.

Looks like plenty of room to clean fish in.

I'm a fan of function over style. I like wood better than chrome though.

I'm more of a fan of sleek chrome and clean lines. My husband likes wood and bulky crap.

Alrightee. As it stands...

View from the dining room through what is now a great room, I suppose. New hardwood to come, fireplace is missing it's front, decorative face and low cabinets with shallow shelves to follow (keeping the depth of the cabinets to the depth of the hearth. They'll go to the ceiling with the crown molding working it's way around them:

View walking in from the hallway (we pushed out the windows). First disappointment...glass cabinet in there. The store they sent me to only had clear or frosted glass. The one I chose has a pattern that you can see with a magnifying glass. One day fairly soon, I'm going to replace it with a subtle stained glass perhaps with some thin bronze lines meandering through it. I don't want it entirely opaque but I do want some color/interest.

View in to the kitchen; no working appliances *tears* but u can see where my double oven and fridge will be:

Finally the view from where my refrigerator will be (with that boring, glass cabinet front and center). I suppose it will look better if I put some colorful items in there. I have some antique, green, glass cocktail glasses that would liven it up. Damn...I'll have to dig those out (after I line those shelves). I'm almost done lining everything. Yay!

So there you go. Kind of different. I'm wondering what the floors will look like with it, we've got two slightly colorful pendant lights going in that will sit over a small, square table between the counter and sliding glass door.

It's amazing to me how much bigger it is given that we only took down the wall between the kitchen and family room. But that alone let us push in to that space and voila! I get to buy a new couch and coffee tables and stuff too. All that got donated at the start.

Now I have to get my ass back to work. Somewhere I have a pic of our old guest bath (it may be on here as part of a selfie). I'll post pics of the new bathroom when it's done.

PS: I'm not proof reading this beast of a post from my phone so 'scuse any misspells or auto correct nonsense.

??? How did you know that's the plan? My husband is all geared up and gathering pics for our "new" backyard. He wants to expand/replace the existing concrete with something decorative, tear down the awning and put in something new, install a big, gas fire pit, put in a above ground hot tub that's wrapped or made of stone... It's happening as soon as they're done inside. We've HAD a nice hot tub that got removed ultimately for lack of use so he's sure this time will be different. My only input on that (which I think would be a huge improvement and he keeps on giving it the "meh" would be to add either french doors or even a slider from our dining room to the outside. We rarely use our dining room and I'm sure that's in part because one has to enter the house, go through the kitchen and into a fairly small dining room. If we could walk right in there from the back yard to eat or get food? Hell yeah!!! So yeah, that's already in the planning stages and my husband can't wait for them to finish in here so he can get started.

Aha! That's how projects roll.

That's a great idea about the slider/french doors. Doooo iiiit. If you don't, you won't be utilizing your home's full potential, you can consider it wasted space. Tens of thousands of dollars worth of wasted space because the room isn't utilized. Seriously!

If you know what your home is worth by the square foot you can figure out the exact amount of money being wasted by not using that room. Details!

With the PIA of all the "major" remodeling, inside and now outside, would it have been easier to just move into a new house that met all your desires?

He's a finance guy; that's a great idea! The only time it gets used is if we set the table and force/herd everyone in there. However if u could walk right in there from the bbq, the living room and our biggest flat screen are right adjacent to it. Huge difference. I did tell him if we're not going to open it, we should at least consider converting it in to an office. Still it would be nice being able to step out for a break. That wall has only a window on it. There's a lot we could do with it...if it opened. Fuck it. I'm going to ask the contractor for a rough bid tomorrow. No point debating it w/out at least knowing approximate cost.

PS: a lot of the lighting was activated today. Those dark pictures I took? Complete change. Everything looks so much lighter/brighter now...Smiley_emoticons_smile. And that's before the under cabinet lights. Plus one of our pendant lights went up. Iights went up. It gets better by the day.
