Iran deal, good deal, or bad deal?
#61
Iran will NEVER have a nuclear weapon . . . let alone, a stockpile.

These "talks" were not to prevent Iran from developing a nuke . . . they were to eliminate the sanctions and make our Euro allies happy.

The intent of the nuclear aspect of the talks was to promote fear. Iran would NEVER go against a fatwa prohibiting nuclear armament.

Don't believe me . . . listen to our president (March 19, 2015) while wishing Muslims a happy new year.

Fast forward to a little before the 2 minute mark . . .

Follow the money.

I heard that those that are most opposed to the agreement want the U.S. to get our asses over there and drop those deep, penetrating bombs instead (maybe they're called bunker busters...I dunno).

WTF? That's what fries my chops...this constant leaning on the U.S. and our military. As I said up thread, after you BB. Maybe while you're busy with Iran, the Palestinians can go ahead and get that state you've so stubbornly refused to consider.

I think the sanctions were working and being the passive country we have become, lax in the historical facts related to Iran and the lies they tell as before. I also believe that if we had kept a base in Iraq like we did in Okinawa and Guantanamo the middle east would be a bit less likely to want nuclear weapons. If anything we should have stayed in Iraq and built more bases and paid for it by negotiations from their government concerning their oil reserves and central location. Iran would not be so aggressive with an American base so strategically located. Iraq was not ready yet it needed 5 more years of grooming at least. That would be more logical but not politically acceptable to the current administration.

Blame Eisenhower, dammit!

He and the CIA put the Shah into power for "strategic regional security" . . . . not to mention fears of Communism . . . and oil supplies.

BTW - the Brits originally drafted the plan (early 50's - IIRC), but Truman put the kibosh on it.

Golly . . . looks like the US is still looking out for our English speaking allies, once again.

Unfortunately, this time with the reigns being held by a Democrat.

Iraq wanted us to be gone as I recall. They wouldn't extend some protections or something to our troops that we offered to keep there so we packed them up and brought them home.

At least that was the story at the time.

Is the Iran deal now in place a good one, or a bad one?

Iran has not lived up to it's agreed to promises before, what makes the USA think they will live up to them now?

Meh. It's the same as it is about every other fuckin' thing, half the country thinks it's okay and the other half doesn't.

What is your thinking here?

There is potential that this helps to rebalance the region, that can only be a good thing.

If by rebalance, you mean an arms race in the middle east, then yes it's really going to help rebalance the region.

It's a shit deal and does little but make people feel a little better. What's really awesome is Iran gets a lot of money and gets to continue perfecting their ballistic missiles too... so when they do get nukes, they can just plop them on the top and wheeeeeee! I guess it depends who they are most pissed at then, but my money is on Israel getting hit first. Israel will certainly hit back, and then the rest of the Arab states will join in. My guess is by then the US will be so disengaged from reality we won't do anything about it... except maybe sign a condolence book at an embassy somewhere.

Nothing to worry about at all!

I think the deal was the right strategic move, MS, for reasons I already outlined in a couple of other threads.

I would have thought so no matter who was sitting in the Oval Office.

Do you think that I've been drinking Obama KoolAid too?............ Think carefully before you answer the question!
